It looks like the organ played by the angel in the Ghent Altarpiece by the Van Eycks -- and sounds like an instrument for an angel to play! Delightful, visually as well as musically.

I can imagine how medieval craftmen felt when entering the church, hearing that great sounds and feeling the presence of Jesus. People who had a deep connection to nature and the wonders that God gave to them. I know, organ accompainment was after or during baroc epoce. But i like imagin such things.

There is nothing like the Medieval Organ sound from a Medieval Pipe Organ. I would love to have one of those two rank Medieval Organ ian my schools Music Department. I would love to have one of those medieval organs and play on one of those medieval organs at some point in my musician career. Thanks for posting!

I should like to have heard both ranks being played. An Octave adds sweetness, Superoctave adds brilliance, and a mutation adds bell-like tone.

Does this instrument have more than one rank?

Hard to say -- that foreground row could be a second rank.

You list Winold van der Putten as the calcant, but isn't he also the organ builder?

i like how peaceful the Medieval organ sounds compared to the loud abnoxius Baroque organ.

I sort of prefer the brightness added by an Octave rank.

I think maybe you're thinking of the "obnoxious" and mushy sounding 19th Century instruments. Baroque organs are merely the ultimate in the 2000 year development of the organ. Bach and all the rest of the Masters just might disagree with you.
