Oooh! Swiss Family Robinson! Loved the movie and finally read the book last year. It was an interesting experience, as it was very detailed but sometimes felt loooooonnngg. One I might enjoy reading again with my boys, but be prepared! It’s a true survival book and leaves little out regarding how they survived.
The group read sounds really good - I'm going to request it from my library. I read Bambi to my boys when they were young and none of us were fans. In fact, it was a struggle to finish. I know we are in the minority though, so I hope you enjoy it. I loved Swiss Family Robinson! The Aggie Morton series is on my TBR. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on it.
Hello! I love this challenge. I am also planning to read all the Newbery award and honor books over the next three years or so. I read about 10 Newbery books in the 6th grade thanks to a teacher and loved them.
Most definitely participating! I'm waiting on the group read from the library, trying to keep my books with my shelf and the library this year. However... I'm not doing the greatest there 😂. I started MGM with a list, but I keep changing it, lol. I think it's because I'm a mood reader. I'm going to make a final list, but chances are it will change. I don't remember if I have them, or if they've been lost over time, but I had/have my grandma's Navy Drew books. I'm thinking my mom left them behind on one of moves.
Same! I've purchased the group read and otherwise reading books from my shelves too. I saw Ella Enchanted and Mandy on your book cart 👀 they would work for the debut prompt.
I just love that Bambi edition 👍. I am a huge fan of the What Katy did series, my Sister just told me that she saw vintage editions of the book and am off to get them even though I have other editions. My Mom first got them for me like more then 4 decades ago and am still obsessed 😅. Childhood books never leave you😊. Have a great week Mitzi!
Hi Mitzi! Oh, that Bambi book is beautiful. I like all your picks. I think I’ll do the group read and then see what I can find at my church library to fill the prompts. Thanks for telling us the prompts. 💖
You and me both girl, saving our middle grade books for the readathon😂. I have been really wanting to read Swiss Family Robinson, I forgot about that book.
I just realized that I have the book Holes and haven't read it yet. Maybe I will this March. Heidi is another one. I don't like Bambi. I mean, I like the animal but not the story. Too sad.
I am also looking forward to Mona Lisa Vanishes. It might be worth checking on Wikipedia to see if any of your choices are debuts. (I looked up Bambi and it isn't.)
Hi Mitzi, I love Middle Grade March, and love vintage books too! I feel safer with the older books, but this is a good time to try some new children’s books too. I am read Rump right now, the true story of Rumpelstiltskin, because I am trying some recommended fairy tale retellings. I have thought about Bambi too because another book tuber liked it recently and had a lovely version of it. I could read Swiss Family Robinson. I have an old copy that I haven’t read. I have some left over from last year too. I know I wouldn’t have to buy any. 😂 But I still might. Thank you.
I’m looking forward to Middle Grade March. The group read sounds fantastic, and I plan to read that one as well. The book I feel I missed out on is A Wrinkle in Time. Terrific TBR, Mitzi! 📚
Hi, Mitzi! I don't remember if you have this book on your shelf or not, but it would fulfill both prompts. It is A Place to Hang the Moon by Kate Albus. Wonderful, wonderful book! It is Kate's debut novel and also one about immigrants/refugees, as the three children are sent away to find a family during WWII. Hope that helps! And thank you for the great suggestions for Middle Grade March!🤗
My library has a lot on immigration and refugee's. Krista recommended Wishtree and Frontdesk, but my library also had Flying over Water, The Stray and the Strangers, and Land of the Cranes and they all look really good. They also have some on audio.
Estherjane here. Mitzi, I was watching another Booktuber the other day and she was listing all the Newbury winner. I found it fascinating that even back at the beginning majority of them were/are women authors😊
