I decided to get one of these units, I actually have a Midea smart dehumidifier with a pump. I keep it in the wash room and run the pump hose into the drain for the washing machine. I've got Govee brand hygrometers in a few rooms and I set a humidity alert, if it gets to say 52 or 55% I get an alert and I can turn on the dehumidifier. Sounds like overkill I know, but I live in Florida, I've been pulling a gallon or more water out of the air a day. The AC doesn't need to run in the winter, but if you don't use a dehumidifier it'll easily get up to 70% humidity... yuck.
I didn't like trying to slip my hands into the box so I just went ahead and cut the box on one side on the front, the other side had glue holding a little flap down so I peeled that up. It's still resting and I'll install it soon, hopefully the unit will run alright now that I cut the box, but I can tape it back together if need be. Those plastic strips they put around pallets and the like to secure them, it would have been nice if they could have put two of those on the unit to help lift it up and out, but it's kind of awkwardly shaped to just lift it out of the box.
I may get one of these or maybe a 10,000 BTU ($298 at Walmart which is not bad but U shaped may be higher, haven't looked) Not doing the wi fi or phone app as I live in a dead spot (poor cell signal and no wi fi at all) I like the idea of the outside bracket rather that putting a 2 x 4 against it to hold it up. I have metal sidings in front of plywood so it;s a good anchor. When gone more than a few days I remove the AC so no one can break in. Also the neighbor's dog sees to that !!
On the U-shaped ac in order for someone to get in they'd have to lift the window. At the ledge of my window I braced a dow rod so my window cant be lifted. Basically you'd have to bust the window out to get in.
Can anyone tell me how to maybe lean this back further after install? I paid a guy 200$ to install and every time it rains it fills up the back and leaks inside a lot. Guy won’t fix it. I’m on late 50s and can’t do this alone.
