No offense to Bad Company but there is something about this tune that puts Paul right where he belongs...This will always be one of my top ten songs.....The lyrics are brilliant and Jimmy just having an opening to wail and control a song and they work together..Just love this hidden gem

The original version of this tune is called 'Swan Song' and is from the Physical Graffiti sessions. Jimmy kept this one in his back pocket. Saw this tour in 1985.

Dirk Diggler I too saw the '85 tour in Chicago. "Swan Song" had many different forms and incantations. "Midnight Moonlight" was one of many. I always thought this song was begging to become another grand Page opus.

I saw them in March of '86. This was incredible. I'd never seen Jimmy Page or Paul Rodgers live. I was just out of HS and I was in heaven.

I saw The Firm in Tampa bay the on the first night of the North American tour. It was one of the best of the hundreds of concerts I have seen. I also have a bootleg of this song from a show in Canada, by far the best start to finish MML live I have ever heard. Better then any thing on RU-vid. I dont know about copy rights or how to upload. I would love to put it up for all to enjoy. If some one would like to help, I would love to post it. This song is epic.

1978, I was 10 years old, received The Black Dog album along with 9 other 8 tracks in the mail. After listening to that album, over and over that same day, non stop til I went to bed that night. I immediately ask my mom for an electric guitar, I had already had been learning the violin since I was 4, so as I would hear Jimmy play, could see the notes in my head as I would listen. Amazed and so grooved out, jamming in my soul, and all my energy crying out to be free, let lose, and wild, like a wolf on a full moon. So intense, and perfect, like God Himself had spoke through this man's talents, right to me, through the tape, it changed my life forever, and I Thank you, Mr. Jimmy Page. For my benefit and on behalf of all the young rock N roll dreamers of the world. Thank you, And God bless you. Jon Matthew Frederick Eich. German Prince.

Unless I missed a few steps, it's nice to see how this song basically sprang from the old "White Summer/Black Mountain Side" and how Jimmy would throw a lot of those notes in there, whenever the Firm did this song live. I think I even hear a bit of Kashmir in there, too... 😎

iirc this song is an unused Physical Graffiti song called "Swan Son" and the rif for Kashmir came from this song originally when page was messing around

Some of Jimmy’s chords still give me goosebumps after all of these years.. I saw Page in 1983 on the ARMS tour in San Francisco. That was the first tour that Page was on after the death of Bonham. Jimmy was so wasted and I didn’t care.

When I saw them in 1985, Jimmy Page made the same statement that ZoSoRecords stated above. I also remember that it was a laser show & when he did his solo with the bow, the faster he played, the faster the laser beams shot all around him with smoke coming up through the floor - After while you could not even see him anymore - Just the green laser beams & the smoke - It was pretty cool & still the best concert I have seen.

Everytime i hear this tune, i wonder what it could have been had it been completed in the Physical Graffiti era with Led Zep It is a very decent tune as is, but it is missing something, considering how many years after the fact it was completed (about 8-9years) one can hear the similarities with another Physical Graffiti tune...In The Light. has that same type of feel. i wonder how it may have sounded had it been completed when Zep were at their peak in 1975. we'll never know :(

The Firm was the right guys, but at the wrong time.. it'd be great to see what they could do NOW. As to that guitar: Danelectro's are so cool and CHEAP too! One of the last values left in a guitar - sometimes cheesy but very identifiable tones. Wouldn't trade my LP or Strat for one, but wouldn't be ashamed to be seen playing one either. They've certainly got some cool "abilities".

Of course, with Rodgers' singing, the twang of the telecaster would be most appropriate instrument for Page. In a twang accent, "How ya hangen' ? I'm hangen' high bro! Letting my freak flag fly! The hotdog stand is now open. Hold the ketchup, but lots of mayonaise, and make sure the buns are warm. I've got my eye on you, sweet cherry pie.

@deslock1 Well to be fair it sounds like Page was using a different setup since the White Summer portion sounds more distorted than it did during Zeppelin and even during Page's 1988 tour. Not quite as clean. Also interesting that Page and Rodgers had shied away from playing any of their old bands' material, yet Page sneaks in Kashmir here.

Has nothing to do with herion. Page was always frail and was often fighting injuries especially in his zeppelin days. Also, he would perform his guitar masterpiece which was inspired by his facination with the music of india "white summer" in a stool every time he perfromed it for zeppelin.

Memo to Juis Fernanez: My dearest lady, I suggest finding a modest young alternative to a Jimmy Page for your lead guitarist for your band MYMP. If I may be so bold, bring an American California Jimmy Page follower on to your stage as a "guest artist" and have him handle your lead guitar music from behind Chin or whom ever will handle rhythm guitar and backup vocals. My sincerest regards.
