FANTASTIC bass playing. I wish these guys had stayed together longer. Great voice, and Page is staying in the background in a supporting role. It makes me believe that Page loves to perform and doesn't have to hog the spotlight. Love. This. Song.
my understanding is that rodgers got very difficult to work with during this period :( i have a friend who played with him during his solo stint and it was difficult for him to work with his "lifestyle" )
@@sherilynl4038 Details about said lifestyle would be interesting. And yet, Rodgers and Page still seem to get along up till now. Rodgers is an outstanding singer and Pagey, well, there are no words, too bad the band didn't go on longer.
@@sherilynl4038 Paul said that he and Jimmy had different ways of working and that is the extent of my knowledge concerning why they decided to call it a day
I had the priveldge of seeing Jimmy play LIVE four times, three with Led Zeppelin and once with The Firm. He's amazing and would play for his crowd for days. He loves playing and sharing his mastered guitar skills.
Myself and another friend immediately clicked into this album when it came out. Not Jimmy’s most gifted guitar work, not even his best solo playing, but it definitely worked .
Saw them twice once for each tour. I saw Clapton Beck and Page in NY . But the first firm tour saw them with my brother 5th row floor , that’s the best way to see a band. They were awesome, Page was back in tip forum . It cost me 75 $ a piece back then with a ticket broker, then I was spoiled , saw Page twice in 88 and Page & Plant twice in the 90s floor seats only way to fly . I can’t imagine how much to cost today. Firm. Way cool 😎I miss those days
A little trivia for the guitar heads.........The oddball solo lick is actually played by Paul Rodgers and not Page on the studio album. He was playing a finger exercise taught to him by Alexis Korner................Don't say I never taught ya anything kids !
A little trivia about The Firm. "Radioactive" was the first song released and the hook wasn't played by either Page or Radgers. It's the uniquie sound of Tony Frankin's fretless bass.
@@guitarplayer2846 This is also what I have always heard ....Do you know why they stopped playing?? That...I do not know. They should have been bigger with the talent involved...I think Chris Slade is better than Phil when it comes to AC/DC too....Just put more POWER to the songs. Rock on and peace.
What blows my mind is that Paul was the sole guitarist of FREE on a few concert tours when Paul Kossoff ( r.i.p) was m.i.a/ out of the band around 71-72
I didn't know how great Page was at this time. when they came, a friend made me go. I lost contact many years ago wth him, but still I am thankful for his knowing what was good for me even when I didn't. I now regard Page as the best all-time!
thanks for posting this.saw this tour, they were great.franklin and slade both did amazing solos, more than 10 minutes each.lazers came out of paul rogers piano.jason bonhams band warmed up.page played great.this music was to good for the 80s.
In the 80's, Page & Rodgers were a highpoint, yes, not Zeppelin or Bad Company, but there were definitely great songs between 2 albums. They were excellent. At the time, A Flock Of Parakeets were on the radio, give me a fucking break. One of the best voices and one of the best guitarist in rock.
Paul has been in Free, Bad Company, The Firm, and solo, basically, along with some minor named projects. Jimmy was a studio musician, The Yardbirds, Zeppelin, The Firm, Coverdale/Page, The Black Crowes, Page/Plant, and solo/producing. For as long a career as he had, that's not that much. Most of his work post-Zeppelin has been solo or one-off collaborations.
interestingly, when AC/DC replaced him with phil rudd after rudd returned from his hiatus, the members of AC/DC commented that they felt bad for letting him go because he was - as they put it - "the best musician we've ever worked with." he's the real deal for sure.
This song is KEWL. Mean Business was a Very Good Album. Very Good Musicians and Jimmy Page with Paul Rodgers was a good combination. Saw them at the Forum in Los Angeles. A 3rd Album would be very cool. 🎸
Saw them at the NEC in Birmingham on this, their first tour(85). Sadly to think of the talent on show, the concert was only about 80% full.Chris Slade did a fantastic 20 min drum solo and the kit swayed front to back on a platform with huge mirrors around.Good show but I think to be fair,as a band, they were short on good songs!Great to see them again. Thanks ZoSo
Paul Rodgers - from Free to Bad Company to The Firm to now releasing a solo album after being near death for years, being told he may never speak again - he is a World Treasure!
Saw them live at MSG. It was terrible. My friends and I walked out halfway through the show, but not before we got in a HUGE braw. I was a HUGE Zep fan.
melody when paul rodgers sings the word "radioactive" seems like "i want it all" by queen. brian may said always to love bad company, free, and paul rodgers
@matrat911 I saw him drumming for Gary Numan on his 1982 Assassin US Tour... he was quite a bit heavy for that music BUT.. he was also on the album that spawned said tour.
I loved The Firm. No it wasn't Led Zep but at least Jimmy was keeping busy, and Paul Rodgers voice is always cool. Almost all the songs are good, some of them great.
If you are looking for some "finally got his shit together and is back on his game" vintage - sounding Page guitar work, give the Coverdale / Page album a listen. A good bit of it is probably what the next LZ album would have sounded like!
@lcolby11 Awsome band- Burton Cummings,Randy Bachman,Gary Peterson. They have been left in the past because the bass player Jim Cale owns the name but has issues. But they still perform sometimes under Bachman/Cummings. I am going to see Burton Cummings next wed. His backing band is the Carpet Frogs. And Bachman is playing with Turner and Paul Rogers in Toronto in Sept. Bachman-Turner Overdrive had a huge song-Taking Care of Business. Rock On!!!
@11xzxzxz It wasn't Julia he ignored . SHE was his mother he barley knew . JULIAN was the son he ignored , that he named after her ! John Lennons mother was killed by a bus, he also never knew his sailor father. For more information he was raised by his Aunt .
The Firm, Led Zep, Uriah Heep, AC/DC and Manfred Man;s Earth group was never intended to make but 2 albums '84 '86 as side projects in between bands. two refused to play old music (Led and UH) the last song published was Zeps unpublished untitled track. There were creative differences with so much star front talent. The music is classic. And all players are in bands now, Look them up on Wiki.
Jimmy went on to do a lot of great work solo though . He also played a track on John Paul Jones soundtrack for Scream For Help that was amazing in its own right, but The Firm was a great band.
Sounds as though a few people should have gone on the Anthroplogy 201. Subjective or not, you can't deny these performers. I use to wonder why more of the big name artists didn't get together back in the early '70s and blow away all the new generation slack rockers.
@nat00ben06 LOL, I am absolutley devastated that you would form an opinion on such an important band! They had like two albums and two singles! Next you'll be saying you don't like Asia!!! ;)
@nat00ben06 "Zeppelin/Bad company grooves are completely missing" because it is a side project !! If he wanted it to sound like Zeppelin he would have reunited Zeppelin.
@Airamahrog WOW,how large was the rock that you were living under could be ? or was it simply just dropped on your skull ? I did'nt know Paul Rodgers was the singer for the Firm,I thought it was Beeker from the Muppets,or possibly Dr. Bunsen Honeydoo,or possibly even the lead singer from Electric Mayhem (Dr.Teeth)it's all within the realm of possibility.
