►About the Game -
Midnight Tales VOL.1 is a horror game set in the 80's and 90's with PS1 style graphics. Inspired by the famous "Tales From The Crypt" they bring the games of the series a unique experience with four little horrors. In addition, a story mode that frames the four games in another even more macabre reality.
Welcome to a true VHS tape era cult horror experience.
STORY MODE:
Rachel works at a VHS tape store at night when she decides to watch a movie that follows a series of bizarre events and the resurgence of a cult known as "The Shining".
Thus bringing a total immersion experience, connecting everything in one.
FOUR GAMES:
- Just Arrived
- Shotgun Massacre
- Pizza Delivery
- The Last Enlightened
CHARACTERISTICS:
Gameplay: First person.
Camera Style: VHS, 1995, Distorted, Pixelate.
Graphics: PS1/PS2 style with low polish.
Story: Full story with four games, story mode is most recommended.
Soundtrack: The game's music seeks to create an even greater immersion for the player to feel in the 80s.
NOTE:
The aim of the game is to convey a sense of true cult horror from the 80s and 90s, an over-the-top horror that sometimes has its touch of humor and extreme weirdness.

There was a boy walking along looking as if he was in a daze. It was a cold morning and he was down to a white tanktop. He was with the group of students that were trapped in a third story classroom. The boys took off their shirts and tied them into a rope so the kids could climb out of a window and slide down to safety. A reporter asked him what happened and all he said was, _"...they shot my best friend."_ then he broke down and began to weep. A larger boy, probably on the football team, shoved his way through the crowd, rushed to the boy, grabbed him and pulled him into a tight hug and they both began to cry. That morning is still not forgotten by a good deal of people.

Thank you very much for not, it was extremely rude and poor taste for them to make a tragedy into a game and then for them to even inclue a warning about it is even insulting to everyone who was affected by that tragedy. They knew what they were doing and to continue with it makes me want to not play any of their future games too.

The 5 dollar bill given to the video store clerk at 5:11 uses a design that wasn't actually introduced until 1999, 2 years after this game takes place. Before that, $5 bills used a smaller, centered portrait of Lincoln.

The tendency of the NPC walk animations to be so out of sync with the movement and so slow created a nicely eerie effect in some parts. Interesting, whether on purpose or accidental.

Man, the horror that these games touch is a kind that is not tappped into commonly. It is such a grimey horror that feels evil on like a spiritual level. CJUGames did a fantastic job with the material.

Unexpected twist in the end! Never thought about ending like this at all. Definitely liked the first video best. Growing paranoia and hidden scare is what you are doing best in this channel and third one was a pure logic and crazy fun so also very much fit! Anyway, with all things considered, (even the gory subject but boring one) that was a very clever idea!

Pizza Delivery was golden! Love these style of games especially with chases in a small, cramped, dingy-looking setting where the monster is constantly making grotesque sounds. Oh and the farting 😂😂😂

Loved the soundtrack. This was great, and hoping to see Vol 2. I watched the 2nd chapter on another channel and yeah, it was kind of ordinary. Overal, the Developers have delivered the goods with this.

I ended up watching the Shotgun Massacre game on another channel and I understand why you chose not to show it. I'm very much against censorship, however this is your channel and I totally understand not wanting to show it because it's distasteful as opposed to just censoring things because of RU-vid. I do appreciate the bits you left in, we did get the 'story' of the game if you can even call it that without showing the frankly boring, not well made gameplay in between. Love your videos as always Chris!

I think the first one was good at introducing the concept of the Enlightened. The second one I really feel like was a horrible and distasteful attempt to "meme" the airport level from CoD: Modern Warfare 2. The third one was perhaps the most gameplay involved, but scare wise felt very disappointing, especially with the farting. The fourth one was a nice way to tie it all together to really cerement it being a cohesive universe. Did not expect that ending though.

Thanks for skipping over the Shotgun Massacre one. As someone who taught before and went through enough active shooter drills... it's really appreciated. The whole snide "for people who don't know how to differentiate a game from real life" was just... ugh. Very poor taste indeed.

Yeah the simple idea of the second game/movie, including that disclaimer, were the worst. It ruined the whole game for me (that, and the story, and the cop-out ending, and the fact that it's ugly as all hell).

love the music..they really hit the Carpenter atmosphere. I've been a big John Carpenter fan ever since I saw Halloween when I was 12 & I have a lot of soundtrack cds. there's just something about the style of music that makes u think about misty October nights & hidden menace in every shadow

I really, really enjoyed this. Such an original concept. Horror anthologies are by far my favorite subgenre and this was setup just like a really good one. The twist at the end was classic "Tales from the Crypt". Game 3 is something I would never play (I get way too flustered), but it was by far my favorite. I really like how each game is a different play style. Excited for volume 2. Thank you for not showing game 2. I can stomach just about anything but this is one thing on my nope list. I really appreciate the developers including a warning before the start.

I think the second movie, Shotgun Massacre, was intentionally made bad to keep the vibe of trashy B-movies in the game. Overall, this is a pretty good game and does a great job in delivering a weird experience.

That was actually a banging watch. This is the kind of thing that makes all the humdrum and tedium and lazy and bad games you endure worth it. Games like this are the gems. Maybe a little unpolished, not perfect, but rough diamonds. Made by people with a real vision, and who put the time and work in to deliver a real, solid experience.

"More than shit" I loved this compilation of games!😬 🤣 It was weird, unnerving, and funny in an adolescent way. Story mode was a great framing mechanism--thanks for playing it that way, Chris. I agree, however, Shotgun Massacre was truly in bad taste. Pizza Delivery was my favorite game. It was creepy and...people p-i-z-z-a.
