I also noticed at the beginning of the movie when Dani was laying on either the couch or her bed that there was a huge painting of a bear above her. I just thought that was crazy since her boyfriend was put into a bear at the end

Okay, the best scene in this movie is when Christian asked the old guy what’s going on, and the old guy just clapped in his face, and Christian started to cry. Lmao!

Let's give kudos for this movie for using the Neverending daylight as an horror element, and to create an unsettling feeling without relying on jumpscarses and the night. The only time we saw night we knew to separate it from reality

First horror movie that mostly happen during the daytime.

I don’t think they were actually speaking swedish, I think the drugs made her feel like she was speaking a universal language through gibberish.

I've never seen a movie like this. Nothing scary about it. Just really fucking disturbing. Just one long sweaty fever dream. I don't even know if I like it or hate it lmfao

I just realized that every time Dani has a panic attack she runs and hides and doesn't that just say so much about how Christian made her feel??? then at the end Dani is not only accepted but encouraged to share her emotions. .. I know they're a cult but damn, where can I get some support like that???

Two words to describe this movie "Pastel Gore"

Correction: Dani isn’t suddenly able to speak swedish during the mayqueen dance. She becomes able to communicate with another girl speaking jibberish as is said in a conversation between the two.

Christian is not only a bad boyfriend but he threw his friends under the bus as well

anyone notice how the cult always mimics the sounds or emotions that another member is feeling. when the elder man didn’t die from the fall of the cliff and started groaning, the whole group started groaning too. same with the girl moaning and the other women following, and the same when dani starting wailing and the girls did the same.

The fact that no one even really cared that the first 2 friends disappeared lmao

The whole film is just “here’s some weird shit, the end”.

this movie wasn’t near a scary as i thought it would be, more disturbing than anything

I think it’s very ironic how when Dani broke down, all these villager women broke down with her in solidarity but it was essentially because of them that she was breaking down in the first place. I think the ending definitely means that these rituals consumed her and she had nothing left to lose and the only way she’d survive is if she surrendered herself completely to the cult and “embraced” it.

My takeaway from this summary: "Don't piss on the ancestral tree bruh"

One thing for sure. This movie killed Sweden's tourism industry

"Ending Explained" usually means going in to depth about what the ending meant by analyzing the psychological and developmental arc of the characters and in this case mainly what the cult is. I felt this didn't brought anything new to me:/

Imagine Pelle telling his children, that's how I met your mother.

When Dani was sobbing and the other ladies were yelling with her, it looked like she was giving birth. Or at least, a birth was occurring.

“Hey bro wanna go to a weird festival in Sweden in the middle of nowhere?” Black guy: nope.

The people that Pelle and his brother brought are not random friends but carefully selected. Pelle's brother brought two people meant to be sacrificed. He didn't like them so to speak. He thought he was dating her and then rejected him for another guy. He then decided to befriend both of them and bring them to midsommar. Pelle also carefully selected his friends. Christian was considered early on as a possible mate for his sister (I think she was his sister). We can see this when we first see the girl, she is looking at a mirror and tries to ready herself for something. She and Christian has never met before then.

Am I the only one who gets a Charlie and the chocolate factory feel? like how there were multiple people that each made a different mistake, resulting in one last person?

Just to include, I also noticed the scene where Dani dreamed being left by his boyfriend and his friends in the middle of the night. At the end I realised that it was sort of a symbolism that she will be the only one left among the travellers.

As somebody who lives across the street from a funeral home, i'd like to point out that that crown at the end is made entirely of _grave site flowers_ . Definitely ominous foreshadowing since no other May Queen is seen during the movie's entire run.

i don't understand how people are saying that she was needy. Are we not supposed to lean on our partners when we're going through heartache?

The mating scene was extremely disturbing

I don't see anyone mentioning that Chris was clearly paralyzed, they cut his spinal cord to make him quadriplegic.

The horror elememts were unsettling in this movie but what was really scary to me is the toxic relationship that is waaaayyyyyyy too realistic.

The whole time I kept thinking that Chris’s actor looked like a mix of Seth Rogen and Chris Pratt

I liked just how accurate the mushroom trips were. Director clearly has experience in this department

At the end, in the yellow pyramid, he gave one guy sap from the yew tree and said "this is so you'll feel no pain". Then he gave a different guy the sap and said "this is so you'll feel no fear". So the guy who felt no fear, could still feel pain.

This movie is proof that post nut clarity is real

To me the funniest scene was Dani trying to walk in that insane flower tent she got dressed in at the end. She looked like a huge flower snail, I just totally lost it.

Horror does not have to be scary. It can be dark, disturbing, shocking, bizarre, it has to make you feel something. Scared can be one of those feelings.

When watching the movie my friend just yelled "DO A FLIP!" when the old people jumped 💀

Scariest part was were Christian was tripping, asked the man to help him and he clapped in his face. Sounds flat but the level of anxiety I felt in that moment is unmatched, it reminded me of how sad bad trips can be....

Pel's mum and dad died in a fire. 🤔🤔 Seems they were sacrificed, too.

I kinda like the communal shared emotions thing when they comforted Dani, it makes sense thematically. Like she finally got the comfort and understanding of her feelings that Christian and his friend group never gave her.

When everyone were watching the dance of the girls on the first day, Mark asks what they are playing, Pelle say it’s Skin the fool and that’s how Mark ends.

It would have been so much easier to just break up.

I love how Pelle additionally foreshadows what will happen when he tells Dani that his parents died in a fire, but he didn’t feel like an orphan because the commune became his family. (Although his parents’ death does confuse me a bit as the ritual happens every 90 years, so I presume he just made it up? to subliminally get the idea into her head.)

If anyone tried to "sympathetically cry" with me, they'd get a slap across the head. haha

It’s nice to have a horror movie being bright and you can see what happing unlike every other horror movie where it’s so dark you have no idea what’s going on

the movie was cinematically stunning but still managed to completely disturb me, top marks, but I may never sleep again

This was just a summary, I was hoping he’d go more in depth into the ancient paintings, symbolism, etc. But maybe that’s just me!

The guy clapping in Christian's face is an ironic jab at his reaction towards Dani's need for him in her darkest times. "...Why would you do that?" Role reversal. Hilarious and subtle.

Guys this was about revenge. The man who brought the british couple wanted to get back at them because he liked connie but she liked Simmon. He knew they were going to die and so did pelle. Pelle liked Dani. He hated how Christain, Josh,and Mark talked about her. So to get back at them they were sacrificed on purpose it was a setup . How did they know Josh was going back to take a picture? BECAUSE OF PELLE. That’s why Dani won may queen. THEY FAKED IT.Pelle wanted her and knew she was vulnerable and wanted to get rid of her haters.Plus he was talking shit about christian so when it was time for him to sacrificed he knew she wouldn’t be as sad because he had sex with ole girl and he didn’t want her to begin with.

I just want a collab between Ari Aster and Jordan Peele, whatever they make will be legendary.

the fact that this guy interprets the movie's ending as positive is absolutely mind blowing to me. that's the genius thing about it though, it makes you empathise with her and you don't even realise that this is the most horrific ending possible - her mind is broken and she is literally consumed by their ritual, symbolised in her dress. It's the end of the journey for her - she's been completely indoctrinated, and so has the audience.

Ngl I wasn't warned about this movie before hand, I thought it was a modern remake of Shakespeare's midsummer's night dream, I was wrong and now I'm extremely traumatized

In the guys' apartment, when Dani talks to Pelle, he seems to be wearing his distinct Midsommar crown already because you can see the plant in the background and it seems like it is on his head. Pelle seems positively charged everytime he sees Dani. I don't know exactly what would happen after the film, but Pelle seems to believe Dani is a perfect addition to his commune family.
