Project description of the US$1.46 billion second Midtown Tunnel between Norfolk and Portsmouth under the Elizabeth River in Virginia, USA. In total 11 elements weighing up to 16,000 tonne each will be transported by tug 200 miles from dry dock in Baltimore to the jobsite, to form a 44ft wide x 36ft high two-lane immersed tube connection and relieve pressure on the existing concrete lined steel immersed tube that was layed in the 1960s.
