Aside from the comedy they added, you have to appreciate just how much they’ve improved between this and Spider Farm. Comparing just the first few seconds, the latest version is already so crisp and beautiful compared to this which was already pretty great
This is the thing, the standard's so high it's almost impossible to guess. Quorum and Squeezy have to be favourites next year, plus you have Rooftop and if Throwback can bounce back. Almost nobody's dropping in quality and it's both ridiculous and fantastic
@@Rockominhosemiva Pretty sure I heard that. They originally took time out to go to BABS in 2017, and couldn't go to 2018 because of circumstance. They then changed baritone so wanted more time to get used to singing with him, so missed this year. I think.
@@ohhmyjesus Me writing that comment was only a few months before that switch happened 🙃 Lemon Squeezy is the quartet equivalent of Trigger's broom from Only Fools and Horses.
After several watches of this, I've come to a couple of conclusions: 1) This arrangement does an amazing (no pun intended?) job of capturing the essence of not only the original theme, but of the time period it came from. Sometimes, arrangements attempt to "modernize" a song to fit today's barbershop, and while that exists to some extent, several of the chords really reach back to the original feeling the this theme song, and that era of cartoons created. 2) The bass is the 2nd coming of Jeff Oxley.
I've gotta give it up for that bass (who looks an awful lot like Matt Friend, btw). He held that last note for 25 seconds. That is not easy, especially because he never lost steam. Absolutely fantastic!
I love the arrangement, but there was a little bit of salesmanship on the chord from about 0:42-0:48. Most of them are in falsetto and wouldn't need to be working as hard as their faces say to produce that sound. I get it - they've gotta look the part, but it just looks funny to me.
