As a person who has used the hair oil fairly recently, way before the TT train derailed. I mean congratulations to her for “leveling up” but did anyone else find it ironic that a YT TT with a huge following JUST SO HAPPENED to list it as a favorite right before the merger is announced? I stopped the video at 11:02 so I don’t know if this was addressed. Major companies like this don’t make these kinds of Marketing moves by mistake. I’m just saying. 💅🏾 They we’re building the “other” community up for support after the “merger.” So we ALL know the formula will change, its only a matter of time. They have to be “inclusive” to the needs of the new demographic that they serve. 🙄 And yet another one of our brands no longer serve our real hair needs.

It’s a bit different but this kinda reminds me of when CeraVe suddenly blew up on TT a few years ago and you couldn’t find that shyt anywhere. Tons of people with eczema and other skin conditions were really annoyed bc it was the only brand they could use and people who didn’t need it were buying it and wasting it. Kinda similarly they ended up reformulating most of the products to meet the demand and they stopped working as well for sensitive skin people. Anytime a brand or product blows up like this it usually turns to crap because they need to change the formula to be able to get enough raw materials to meet the demand. I know when it comes to black hair products a lot of people think it’s just about changing it to suit white hair but I wonder how much of it has to do with that and how much has to do with the supply issue. Maybe some of both if I had to guess.
@emayaych

@@rosalina2773 Thank you for explaining this. I have mild eczema as a child and discovered CeraVe as an adult as a helpful tool. Been using it for some time but have noticed changes. I'm a corporate tax accountant who has been part of many M&A endeavors. When a large company acquires a small company, the larger company does not let the smaller company dictate what they will or will not do. In order to scale production and take advantage of the larger companies' contractors and supply chain, they change the business. The odds of Mielle being able to stay the course are miniscule, and the product will change over time. Especially if Mielle's sales begin to cannibalize the sales of any other black hair care products under the P&G umbrella. Trust me, I've seen this play out many times. They are swimming with sharks now and they, like most small companies, are not prepared. Or at least that's been my experience. I wish them luck with all that.

I think at some point we're going to have to acknowledge the difference between being Acquired and being the acquirer. Every business wants to scale. And given the opportunity to grow is always met with celebration because it's typically hard-won gains. I think our community is looking for our own Procter & Gamble. We're out here celebrating and supporting these brands with the hope not just that they become great hair companies but with the hope that they go on and they scale to become Global dominant players in the world so that we no longer are dependent on the Procter & Gamble distribution channels. But we have our own distribution channels and resources.

As someone who works within the industry if people believe those formulas won't change, let me tell you, they will!!!! But for very good reasons: 1. U.S regulations are weak and if Mielle wants to sell in the EU or Asia they will need to use more complaint materials. P&G will make the formulas globally complaint so the brand can grow to other markets. 2. Small companies like Mielle usually lie on their ingredient list; to the point of being illegal and unsafe (shea moisture did it ALL THE TIME before they sold out to Unilever - who fixed it). P&G, by law, will have to go in and fix the formulas for compliancy so they won't be sued by their competitors and by their newly wider audience consumers. The formulas WILL function the same with the changes...they will run comparative test to make sure of that so they won't lose business. Change isn't a bad thing.
@LaToyaEbonyHair

@apara2005

@@LaToyaEbonyHair they aren't guidelines, they just aren't as strict as EU...Asia is even more stict. Every market has their own regulations and rules companies need to follow to sell goods. All companies follow EU standards. Some follow Asia because it's a huge market. But it's so strict. Unfortunately, the U.S doesn't care about cosmetics (but they do care about pharmaceuticals and OTC products). I guess the pick their battles 🤣.
@HereDiianas
@HereDiianas Год назад
Hi for num 1 I think you meant the world compliant. There should be no problem on that. With hair care there is no specific regulation regarding materials which are different from the EU to the USA unlike chemical sunscreens for instance. The only difference is that in EU some fragrance allergens must be specifically listed like linalol, or lavender oil... They can't just be listed under the term "fragrance". Plus Mielle is already being sold in Europe (I am in France) so they must have already done their due diligence on that. For point num2 I agree 100%. Unfortunately many new small cosmetic brands lie on their ingredient list especially when they want to look "natural". They can beat their competitions which are honest on false claims because customers fall for the fake ingredient list and "natural" marketing. I even saw it on this channel and other many youtube channels on the product Doux gel that some hairstylists who were affiliated with the product sold as 100% natural/safe vs other products lol. Do people really think that a 100% natural gel/mousse that mainly contain some plant extracts... can hold coils on 4c hair and be stored for months without synthetic conditioning ingredients, synthetic holding ingredients, or synthetic preservatives.... I checked their ingredients list and it did not make any sense. But while they lie they make millions and when the big companies buy them their legal team must correct all the wrongs and put the real formula.... As you said I noticed that as well with Shea Moisture when everyone was raving about their super natural formula before it was bought by a big group. The formula of their original Shea moisture shampoo was gentle end detangling at the same time but there was no conditioning agent in the formula, only one super gentle cleansing agent which was not enough to clean hair properly by itself, no synthetic preservative and no fragrance listed only essential oils although it smelled like synthetic fragrance. The formula did not make sense at all so I knew what was up. It was sold first in UK in small black shops. Then when it was bought up it was then sold in the very known and established beauty chain Boots. I tried it and it felt and smelt exactly the same but the ingredient list was different and finally made sense to what the product was doing.
@apara2005
@apara2005 Год назад
@@HereDiianas with all do repect you are wrong. 1.Theres no such thing as a world complaint. It's by region. And by region. I also mean by country...not just by continent. So just because things are OK in France doesn't mean it's ok all over the EU. 2.There are certain ingredients that can not be used in the EU that are OK to be used in the U.S. it's not all about the fragrance allergens. I've been working in the industry for a very long time, I think I know what I'm talking about 🙂. P.S I don't know where mielle is sold, don't use the brand. I used that as an example. Relaxing our african hair doesn't make it behave like "others " or "everyone else" hair. Relaxed african hair is very fragile and will need a different hair care regimen than asian/caucasian/mixed/non-blacks hair in order to thrive. If Health is not your concern you can have the look of the others and be happy that way.

Companies can do this because they know black people are still going to buy it. Folks still buying eco styler even after the CEO was on record calling black women trash. First of all, you look gorgeous!😍 I have only used one product from Mielle in my life (a deep conditioner), so I have neither an affinity or negative opinion about their products overall. What happens with the company post acquisition makes no difference to me whatsoever. I can understand why people are concerned about formula changes now, but companies change formulas all the time (often without notifying consumers) even without being acquired by another company. Sometimes it's due to supply chain issues or fluctuations in the prices of ingredients. I am more concerned with a product that I use continuing to perform as expected and to be safe/not trigger any adverse reactions than a formula remaining 100% unchanged. The majority of my hair products are from companies that aren't Black owned, so I don't feel any way about Black business owners selling their companies personally. I also don't have the mindset that the success of a business owner who I don't know and whose products aren't integral to my life somehow benefits (or harms) me.

The way I have a distiller in my Amazon cart so I can make my own oils. I already have a source for raw shea butter and cocoa butter from women-owned companies, in their countries of origin. I'm about to start ordering soap nuts from India. By the end of this year I hope to be making all my own hair care products so I don't have to worry about these people's ups and downs anymore. I've watched so many black hair content creators demo products and have codes for discounts for their audience to go buy them and I never hear about those products flying off the shelves but people are mad that this white woman told her followers to go do the same and they actually did it??? All I gleaned was that it's been put on blast once again a certain group of people are willing to spend the $$$$$ to support their faves without complaining about it and I'll leave it at that. I have no problem with Mielle being acquired by P&G. To me this is no different than when Carol's Daughter was acquired by L' Oreal. Her formulas have changed a bit, but she still managed to offer a good product. The bigger problem to me is that we do have black companies that are trying to become the equivalent of P&G for black products, and we complain about the cost of their products. When they do things like offer the opportunity to buy shares we aren't exactly willing to invest. How are our companies going to have a chance to compete with the likes of P&G, L' Oreal, J&J, etc. if we as a community aren't supporting their efforts?

Hmmmm this is deep and exactly how I feel. This "controversy" is just like with what happened with Shea Moisture a few years ago. Formula changes don't mean bad news for the consumer if they work and the price is fair. I believe black women especially in the natural hair care community need to unlearn many things about hair care and how targeted hair care products are not always necessary. So many companies have taken over brands that were essential built of the black consumers dollars and support. My advice is for black consumers to learn how to make your own products or support smaller black owned companies. I understand people's concerns about the formula changing and it may. What works for black consumers hair isn't the same for white consumers. Some how when money is involved companies cnan start to favor a different side which is unfortunate. The hype over this oil is crazy. You can make your own oils at home buy some quality oils like neem oil, jbco oil, almond oil, jojoba oil and add rosemary essential oil and there you go. I hope that more black owned companies will become well known so that black consumers will have a safe space to shop with quality ingredients that will promote healthy hair and growth.

I can understand the concern about a big company purchasing a smaller company and changing products that you love. But all this race-based outrage over the oil needs to stop. I think it is very possible they worked with a popular white tiktoker who could introduce this product to more people. It is simply marketing. She had the numbers. And a large company like P&G didn't get to where they are by targeting only a small group of people. That oil, while I didn't like it, can work for all kinds of people with varying hair types. It is fine for others to use and a good money move to reach as many people as you can. The reason why a lot of black owned businesses struggle, or at least not reach the success levels of other companies, is because they are targeting a relatively small group in relation to the population. It's fine to make products meant for black people, but stop getting mad when a black person does well and also reaches a larger audience. We can all use the oil. Most of the things we use every day are used by people of all races. Give them time to up their production and stop trying to limit black people's businesses while other races are allowed to level up without their race being thrown in their faces. That's just my two cents.

Yes, expect formulas to change, price to change, packaging to change! Mielle had Berkshire Partners as their investors and Berkshire sold their stake to P & G. This happens all the time! The thing to see is what was the agreement between Mielle Organics & Berkshire Partners when they became investors. Lisa Price, Carol's Daughter founder sold to L'Oreal and Richelieu Dennis sold Shea Moisture sold to Unilever. Is Ebony/Jet magazine still owned by the Johnson family? Who owns Essence Communications? These people were and are still visionaries! Small businesses have short term and long term goals. Did you think that when Mielle brought on investors that they didn't have long term goals of where they want to be? What do you think Shark Tank is about? Do you remember Curl Mix refusing their offer? However, they did go to them for financing! Ask them what their long term goals are? We all should have short and long term goals! Our support of the product should not just be in the buying of it alone. Have we invested in the company? Have we researched to start or continue to have a portfolio of wealth? We have to look at the company as investors and not just personal attachments. Marketing feeds on our personal attachments! Again, it's about the $$$! One can invest in DRIP (Direct Reinvestment Programs) or some thing like them for long term growth! Financial Literacy proves to be important! Wealth is built on long term investments! Even though Mielle may have agreed to stay on as advisors (or whatever the negotiated), the original owners are building their wealth for their families (even those who helped them get to where they are), for the next generations to come. They've earned the voice at the board table! Our voice needs to be at the table too! Our people are being represented in the R & D labs, the marketing areas, they finance areas too! Berkshire Partners was not investing in Mielle for the good the Black Community just as P & G knows we spend boo coo $$$ for hair, personal care, and other beauty products. We tell them what we want and they know we'll make them rich. The rich don't wear their products, they invest in the products people buy. Someone shared a story with me about a Rockefeller who was wearing a Timex watch. Someone asked him why he wore it since he could afford a Rolex. His answer was, "the only thing a watch needs to tell is time." Timex and Rolex does the same thing, why pay more? Do you think Warren Buffet wears everything he invests in? No They look at the spending habits of people! Yet, we get caught up in new products, their fragrances, how "bomb" our hair and body look, and spend so much money on Black Friday deals to the tunes of hundreds of $$$ only to have them in the closet! We could have taken a vacation, paid for college tuition, books, saved toward a down payment on a house, paid off current debt, invested for our children's futures, put some money in the bank and establish wealth (or its beginnings) to boot! Get what I'm saying here? If we want to make a difference in P & G or any other company, we need to be in the position to change it and not have it change us! I'm not sure what the problem is here! I feel that this is going to invoke feelings that we don't need to have just to boost statistics. At the end of the day, these feelings aren't going anywhere! Hmm...advertisers are on RU-vid channels, why? What do you think? We are in a capitalist economy! This is business! This is the world we are in! No it's not fair. We have to learn how to work within these walls!

Am i only one who doesn’t care? The fake woke outrage of the black community can be very annoying. At the end of the day, it’s business. She’s gonna do what’s best for herself and the brand. Come on y’all.

We are angry at the wrong people. As a founder that has been hustling for 6 years, my biggest dream will be to get acquired by a known brand in my industry! Deep pockets and resources to drive all the things I want to do but can't afford. Access to finance is a real struggle for black business owners. Mainstream financiers are the ones coming to our rescue unfortunately. Because black investors are so risk averse that they want your father's blood sample in the term sheet!😫 Just kill me and take my business 😂😂😂 But again, I don't blame them. Black wealth is new, and so there's a need to protect is at all cost!

Honestly, people of a different race/ethnicity don’t do all of that when us black women use products that are “made” to gear towards certain races or ethnic backgrounds.

I would say my main issue with a lot of these black-owned businesses selling out is that despite the huge milestone being hit: 1. The money is being funnelled back into white companies whereas if we keep scaling up with our own, we could create legacies. That's one reason there are so many wealthy white corporations: they keep it in the family. 2. We KNOW that the formulas and products will change, what a bald-faced lie! 3. The original owners will have very little say against a massive corporation like P&G and then likely be pushed out of the picture! 4. It's human nature to belong to a particular culture, coupled with always being told that there's no space for us only to turn around as vultures and decide that they want a piece of that pie. 5. It's basically industrial colonization/gentrification which wouldn't be as much of a problem if everyone was allowed EQUAL parts of that pie. 6. As for white vs black creators, we know who truly has the power, they tend to buy up black products and complain that it doesn't work for their hair, tanking good reviews. Products might not work for a certain ethnicity but black hair is fundamentally different to white hair and there's no shame in that.

Hello Latoya, how are you and Happy New Year! I agree that, hopefully, p&c will not change the formulation to mielles rosemary scalp treatment oil because this would be disappointing. I'm not sure if you have tried this oil yourself, but in my humble opinion, it would be great if you would please try this amazing oil and market it in such a way so that the sisters will have the upper hand in the sales! Love your content and keep up the good work!

Happy New Year! I’m going to be honest. I will probably never try this oil. I don’t need hair growth oils and my scalp reacts badly to oils. I’m sorry, but I’m sure there are so many other creators who wouldn’t mind giving it a try. ❤️
