net split I can't say that I agree. The MiG-23 had some pretty big issues, only a few of which were solved during its service life, and it wasn't powerful enough for its cost.
Su-25 and MiG-23/MiG-27 serve two very different roles. The Su-25 is far inferior, not to say totally unsuited for low-altitude high-speed interdiction and nuclear attack. The MiG-25 was totally built for high-speed interceptions of high-altitude planes, worse suited to air superiority.

The problem with the Mig 23/27 was that the cost of keeping them was not equal to their performace vs other airplanes... When the Warsaw Pact ended many former Warsaw pact airforces kept their Mig 21s, 29s, Su 22s and Su 25s, but retired their Migs 23/27s.. India has now retired their 23 and its retiring their 27s, yet the Mig 21 and the Jaguar still in service, it makes you think.
The 27 was a very advanced attack platform for its time, it launched infrared, laser and TV-guided smart bombs and rockets, which required complex mission programming skills from the ground and weapon-crew for which they were often inadequately trained. This was a problem that plagued the 27's operational effectiveness and the engineers were often on site to do the mission programming themselves.

@@the_real_bin_chicken Yes it was, but it was designed more to fit for ground attack. Like afterburner feature was removed to improve low level and low speed handling, the nose was redesigned to allow better visibility downward on ground (hence nickname "balcony" because so great view down), laser designator was added to the nose, and many other changes. It almost is completely new airplane why new designation MiG-27.
This is the MiG-23BN. It is a redesign of the MiG-23MF fighter optimized for ground attack. The MiG-27 was a completely new design based on the BN but much more sophisticated.

No, is not! MiG-27 are more advanced ground attack aircraft without afterburner. These here are MiG-23BN (with afterburner), the predecessor of the 27.
MiG23 & MiG27 fighters has its own pluses & minuses but i think the biggest mistakes committed by Soviet Aeronautical engineers designers of MiGs design bureau cooperation has been that they designed both MiG23 & MiG27 as single engine aircraft thereby which created a problem which was not simple as power to weight ratio which although was not the case in MiG23 n MiG27 but still as a swing wing fighters design both these fighters needed the power of 2engines to overcome the problem emerged in the form of stress faced by both these airframes & even klimov Engines design R29 series which had been very powerful engine in itself but being a single engine platforms the R29 itself has went through stress suffered due to single engine configuration design of both of these potent fighters.And that's why there had been others swing wing western design like American F14Tomcat & British Eurofighter Tornados which were twin engines design haven't went through the same problems which have been encountered by MiG23 n MiG27 in single engine configuration. otherwise Both of these fighters planes even proved to be more superb & reliable advanced design if that's basic mistake hadn't been committed by Soviet MiG design bureau.
Being a singled engined was not a problem for the mig 23, the engine is huge, the plane was just built for speed and had no wing area, and was too long and heavy to be agile in dogfights.
