This was so awesome to see a MiG-29 perform live right in front of me. I thought I’d never see one perform in the states. What a treat. Got a couple videos on my channel.
He knew just what the crowd wanted. He knows L39s are a dime a dozen at OSH, knew the Alphas were special and kept em in for a little more then the l39s, but knew the Fulcrum was the star of that show and did a solo demo with it
The engines run rich mixture at lower rpm and lubricate the internals with the fuel itself prolonging life of the unit, there is no smoke in after burner mode whe you are suppose to be in a dogfight . nothing wrong with the RD-33's , its theid design
we were quite used to it here in eastern europe, but now they become rare even here. They used to perform a simulated dogfight on our national air display - that was a definition of loud 😀
Haha I watched this before but I just noticed at 3:10 and 3:47 they played ace combat music (my favorite video game). That's pretty cool. I had gone to the Milwaukee airshow that happened at around the same time but I didn't go to this one unfortunately. Would've loved to see a MiG-29.
My apologies if this has already been stated in the comments or I missed in the video... Was this 29 from "Russia with Love" or privately owned / a different State owned? The paint scheme is really cool!
For a commie bird, the Fulcrum is about as sweet as it gets!! I was fortunate enough to see 2 of them in the summer of 1991, as they were invited here to southern MN for Air-fest. It was a Friday Sat and Sunday show. We went on Saturday...sadly, the weather was terrible! So instead of a 2-man 30 min show, they sent up 1 plane for 20 minutes, and they had a lowered ceiling because of the storm-cloud cover. In spite of that, the pilot put on a Heck of a show! It was the first time I'd ever seen fighter jets actually flying. It was pretty awesome! Since then, we've had the T birds and even the Blue Angels...which I feel are probably the 2 best of the best in the world of ariel performance teams. But you never forget your first. I was of the age where you were brought up at best, not trusting anything behind the iron curtain, and although the Migs have a history of cool names... "fishbed", "flogger", "foxbat"...the Mig's were always the bad guys...and always portrayed almost as some super unbeatable dogfight ender unleashed on the western pilots almost as if they were TIE fighters against B-iplanes. With that mindset, I was pretty taken aback, when a high school friend of mine, who was from the time we were 14, crazy about all things aeronautical engineering based...when he couldn't stop talking about this new, ultra-secret Mig the "reds" had released. Even more surprised was I that after the "end" of the Cold War, 1991's Air Fest advertised that we were getting a pair of them to do a 30 minute demo flight to show it's many capabilities. In fact, you could even take a 15 minute flight with them, if you paid $10,000. Anyway...Great vid...sweet paint scheme. Take care...God Bless!
Jared Isaacman owns this one. You buy one, and better have deep pocket because the cost to maintain one is over 2K for every flight hour not including cost of fuel.
@@kvnkaveman Not that bad, compared to the flight hour costs of a chopper. In germany they start at 4k€ for small ones like an EC135 and up to 23k€ an hour for the larger sikorksy CH35
Impressive aircraft, but she smokes like a Phantom. They smoked a lot in 1988 at Farnborough too, but the Russians did a better display then. That was the start of the Russians being friendly, the western military pilots were astonished to be invited to sit in the Migs-29s and Su-27s. Nobody was putting a Russian in an F-15 or F-16 🙂
This Mig 29 pilot seems like he just learned how to fly it, very tame. He hasn't even scratched the surface of what this puppy can do. He needs to go to Mig 29 comrade school in Russia to learn how to fly this bird the way it's meant to be flown. Kinda boring
Some of you are worried about a little smoke?? As a teenager my family had a farm next to an F4 Phantom pilot's parent's house in the 1970's----You people have no idea of the "strafing" I endured from an F4 Phantom. Nothing could prepare you for it if it came from behind while driving a tractor, and it was equally brutal when you saw it coming head on with the second pass, black smoke boiling behind. No person will experience this again with the regulations that now exist..Kind of sad.
