Maybe they shouldn't have made Dr Blackwell or Dr. Sanda and focus more on Dr White to make him a more likable character. Maybe remove the whole "makes weapons for the millitary" thing and have him be blackmailed by Greg Graham to make Trinity. Maybe have White kill Graham, or have Graham kill White. Maybe do SOMETHING to show White's morals and remove the stinger so he ISN'T an Ambiguously Evil Mad Scientist (Thanks, TV Tropes.)
It lists everyone who contributed to the kickstarter? The credits take four hours to roll? That's fucking hilarious. Did you actually sit and time them?
Other people sat and timed them; I only found out it goes a full four hours by looking it up afterwards. I just sat there looking at the list and going "holy shit!" until I finally skipped through various sheets.
I don't want this to come off wrong, but I think this is easily one of your weaker videos. You miss several key parts of info on the game (They're colosseum robots, not war robots, so their violence is staged. You can shoot down if you hold the shoulder button and shoot, it does an annoying back jump though. And the red power up lets you shoot through walls, which is how you do the mine level without the other weapons.) and the rage feels..... phoned in because of it. Not trying to be a jerk, clearly I'm still subbed and giving you views, just trying to throw a little feedback in the pot for later videos.
PISS! >~< I've only played Mega Man 2 on NES- I am not familiar with the franchise. Any suggestions? Pretty much all of the worthwhile Mega Man games are on the Wii U's Virtual Console. Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow is top of my to-buy list on the Virtual Console though.
i believe 3 had the dash, but go watch avgn's video on megaman and he explains the evolution and upgrades that megaman got over the years with each game.
I hadn't heard that they siphoned MN9 funds to Red Ash. So on top of being ridiculously mis-managed they outright lied about where the money was going.
***** Actually, they straight up admitted they spent only 60% of the budget on the actual game. Even though 2.4 million is still too much for this game, you have to wonder where the other 1.6 million went. They may have used it to pay their own salaries or personal expenses, which is fraud. They may have spent it on licensing, which should not have cost that much unless they did spend it on the anime and Red Ash licensing too (which is fraud). They may have spent it toward a Mighty No.9 sequel, which was already in the works during the development of this game (which is fraud). Backers expected the money to go directly into this game. Inafune had a talented development team. He was not working from scratch. 40% of it being diverted elsewhere has got to sound like fraud. kotaku.com/mighty-no-9-s-designer-says-i-will-own-all-the-proble-1782382706 www.polygon.com/2016/6/11/11908502/mighty-no-9-sequel
If you want an actually good non Mega Man game that's made in the light of Mega Man, might I recommend checking out the Azure Striker Gunvolt series. The sequel has a character that copies boss abilities after they're defeated for the first time and there's a spin off with said character as the main character. And all three games are on PS4, Steam, and Switch
Fun fact: Mighty No. 9 was originally going to release on PS3, PS4, PS Vita, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, 3DS, and PC before it went through all of the development shit. But when the game finally came out, the 3DS and Vita versions were delayed and haven't come out since. What's worse is that the game devs promised that they would come out by the end of 2017. It really shows how much of mess the game's development was and how it turned out in the end.
They needed multiple Kickstarters to scrape together the budget for one game but had the budget to get Yuri Lowenthall (Spiderman from the PS4 game), Steve Blum, and Matthew Mercer (Yusuke from Persona 5) in the recording booth
For Mighty No 6 there is a ledge you can hang on to avoid all of his attacks. Still it's hard to see and there is no indication that you can grab onto it but, I thought you might want to know.
If anything can be said about this game as a whole in one word it would just be the word "average". It's a platform game that plays like something you would find on an NES but it does not do anything revolutionary. It's just a simplistic game. It has it's highs and lows but at the end of the day there really isn't anything special to say about it. People got an average game when they were really asking for something to aid in revolutionizing the kickstarted game industry. What a disappointment. It's not bad but it could have been so much better.
The part where you use the propellor in Trinity's stage... You can also just air dash through the frikkin thing! Much more cost effective! I actually like this game (Wii U version, by the way). I wonder, have you played any Megaman games that wasn't from the Classic series? o_o
What do you expect from Capcom? I mean they're the Company that ruined Resident Evil for old school fans by making it action adventure instead of survival horror that used to scare the hell out of people.
This game was made by a different studio and published by Deep Silver. And say what you will about Resident Evil 6, at least its marketing wasn't actively badmouthing its demographic.
and i ask because you called the dash ability new when in actuality it made it's first appearance in megaman x where it was a leg armor upgrade given to you by dr light. in megaman x2 the dash becomes a permanent upgrade to x (x is classic megaman/rock's successor that can make his own choice like a human because of that dr light had to put x through a 70 year old diagnostic so he know's the difference between right and wrong 100 years later he is awakened by man named dr cain who used x to create reploids/replicant androids who are robots that can think like humans witch meant they can turn evil/go maverick because of that a police force of sort know'n as maverick hunters was formed.) and the air dash was a leg upgrade in megaman x2.
There's a library not far from here that rents games--probably because at least video game club operates from it. (Seriously, it's pretty cool.) They'll buy new games when they can afford it, but they accept used and donated ones, too. THEY DO NOT CARRY THIS GAME. They didn't bother buying it, and as of yet no one has donated it. ...I honestly don't know what to think of that. Maybe the members of the anime club (that also meets at this library) asked them to boycott it because of the marketing, lol.
I have no idea; I would only guess nobody donated it or nobody felt like buying it at the library, but the clubs seem to have more influence over your library so who knows.
The credits state that over 70,000 people contributed to the game's development; they donated a total of 4,000,000 bucks to it. And almost all of them regretted it, sadly.
The first four minutes were with my normal mic- had a shit ton of annoying airy noises. The rest was a short-term solution to get usable audio. Do you think I need to redo the first four minutes too?
I know it's silly to do this but I have to differ with you right from the get go; six all-time classics? Uh, no. Maybe three as in the first three, but my god did the series become formulaic and tired after that, and MMX blows 'em all out of the water, only to ironically itself become the victim of the unnecessary 3rd-rate-expansion-packs-as-unnecessary sequels syndrome.
Well, I will say that X2-X5 were at least competently made. I remember looking all over for X2 as a kid for either rental or purchase and being utterly unable to find it. I've heard somewhere that it was quite rare in the US. I remember finding X3 at Funcoland and rejoicing though, I was quite the happy little bastard to get it and like I said, while not groundbreaking, it was a well made game. Although I absolutely loved it as a kid.
What a terrible outcome, it'll be something if this game gets a part 2. If it does White should be the villain otherwise bad writing for a character who nobody likes gets off scot-free just because.
With all the blow-back I doubt they're going to get the sequel they teased. I almost want there to be one to beat the shit out of Dr. White if they make him the villain.
I've always wondered why Mighty No. 9 was so hated. I've heard about the hate, but didn't know why until now. I haven't played it, my only real info comes from TvTropes. Also, I'm surprised you didn't mention Ray, the games answer to Zero and Protoman.
Ethan Ciotti The Sword and Fire weapons charge for their basic functions (the fire weapon explodes and stuns you if you try to hold a full charge) but I am fairly certain the regular gun does not charge.
Hey great video DLJ, I just wanted to ask what you thought of the suicide squad movie. I liked parts of it but I hate the new Joker with all my heart. He's just a generic crime boss. I liked Harley Quinn and Deadshot but that's about it.
Thanks! I thought as a whole Suicide Squad was fun, but has a lot of problems. The new Joker is awful; may be well acted but he's so terribly written and so many of his parts were cut out that it's hard to tell. Harley was very well acted and Will Smith knocked the role out of the park.
I enjoyed those two characters but I just can't see this joker facing off against batman, which is a shame because I think Ben affleck was suprisingly good in the role. I think it's only a matter of time before the DC universe gets it right. I can say they've had some good moments so far.
While I have no interest in Mighty No. 9, I just wanted to point out that as the review went on (and griped) about having to memorize attacks and needing to time jumps perfectly, basically learning through error, all I could think was, "uh...that's Mega Man..." I think a lot of us veteran gamers take for granted how we had to learn the levels pixel by pixel, THEN after all that have to learn a boss (That's why lives and E tanks were so valuable.). I say we take it for granted because the games are so old I think we all just forgot what it was like to be new to a Mega Man game. In that respect, it sounds like Mighty No. 9 is successful in being a spiritual successor. Too bad the rest of the package is just poorly put together.
I admit I haven't played a lot of the Mega Man games- I only played Mega Man 2. But even in Mega Man 2 I beat the game and only really had to knuckle down and obsessively study boss patterns in the last few levels. Mighty No. 9's bosses ALL whoop your ass until you've meticulously memorized all of their patterns and telegraphs. Plus- again, in the only Mega Man game that I've actually played- the levels are way shorter and it's less punishing to get to a boss multiple times to study them.
I think it is a thorough review all around, don't get me wrong. And I admit I typed that before reaching the end of the video, which after half way I started to understand the frustration. There IS a point games can be too frustrating, where it just feels like it's not rewarding persistence and instead trying to just be hard for the sake of being hard. Which in hindsight I see that point you were making.
I could go on and on and on about all the shit that went on before the game came out, but I'll just direct you to an in-depth breakdown of the Kickstarter debacle by Stop Skeletons From Fighting. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-snmGTtyELkQ.html
