I love this dude and his music to death but at the same time, he's saying this having written ghost of perdition and serenity painted death. If you listen to a lot of hip hop from the 90's its a lot more violent, but its less about glorifying it and more about warning people about it. A lot of it was super political too, trying to fight for a change

No, modern hip hop as a whole is complete garbage. It’s produced by these few main production companies and solicited by the same distribution agencies. The people making the music are using literal cookie cutter formulas of how these songs are structured. If you took the lyrics of 90% of modern rap songs, and did a analysis on words and meaning, it would be completely identical in means of expression. Forget music composition, the same b/g minor 49.125-78.00 tempo hi hat with 5-4-5 piano riffs can’t really classify as original when MOST rap artists steal and use others songs to make their songs.

Actually Mikael was right, rap is using aggression to acquire a spot on the industry so they can keep with the bling bling non-sense. Metal on the contrary, while there are shitty bands, put an enormous effort on delivering above the average musicality while using aggression as a fundamental topic to explain the moment we live on... Rap is a prisoner of violence, metal is an observer / describer of violence as a mean of the system to perpetuate itself
