Mike Kelley surely isn’t as strict with his critiques as he used to be; allowing surprising aspects to get a pass when normally, he wouldn’t let it slide at all. Perhaps Mike has softened his opinion on photos in an attempt to enjoy more images instead of only noticing their flaws. Anyway, great upload!
Lee, the gradient you see in the second photo was part of the original. The black and white edit sort of exaggerated the contrast :) Thanks for the critique
Out of curiosity, I actually googled the cruise and can confirm the PI Pool was taken with a drone, because there is no balcony near the area. Is a great shot!
What strikes me even more than the boats is that in the reflection of the cabins, one of them is in a much paler shade of red then the others. Looks like the photographer adjusted the "real" cabin's color to make them look more uniform, but didn't do so for its reflection.
Great critiques! As an aside, I just purchased Mike Kelleys Art Meets Architecture 1. Wow! It is excellent! I am not a professional but I am helping my architect husband photograph/edit his photos. Thank you so much! I learned SO much and I feel much more confident. Just wanted to let you know how much the course helped me. Thank you, again!
I agree with Mike's choice for number 1, personally I like the LA freeway image, I know it's a road and a simple composition, but the tone and the old car really give the image a futuristic feeling👽🛰 Great photo review guys very entertaining 👍👍
I’m reminded of Siskel and Ebert. One time Roger Ebert was so flustered with Siskel’s negative criticisms he questioned him if he thought he might be in the wrong line of business.
So interesting. As an european architectural photographer myself, I agree with so much of what Mike thinks of the photos.. So its really interesting seeing when and why Lee doesn't like the photos. Gets me out of my bubble. I don't agree with Lee mostly but still interesting :D
A line in the movie, Amadeus. Mozart, you play too many notes Mozart. Einstein once said remove negative people from your life they always have a problem for every answer.
It always amazes me how the ‘expert’ photographers appreciate work far greater than the FS community in general. It’s also wonderful that Mike values the impact of images without having to search for technical imperfections.
the last image should have 2 sun it the sky, look at the direction of light on the boat and the building! completely different angel! it is interesting Mike and Lee didn't notice that
@29:32 "i'll never forget that picture"... "have you seen that image before?".... "maybe I have, I can't remember..." hahahaha So I guess it was possibly forgettable? ;)
Shows you the difference between an experienced professional who knows the effort needed to take these shots, and the pessimism that is the CTC forum members that rate the images.
@@lackoliver55 naah, i'm totally with lee on almost every point he made, especially with the red buildings and boats in the shadows. total snapshot with bad retouching
Mike i knew from a couple years back who put emphasis on every little tiny detail, down to the way a pillow in the very corner of an image was arranged just a few inches off would have never picked such a generally sloppy set of images. then at 29:40 he goes and throws out a 5, world class, UNFORGETTABLE image, which at best is a 3. then ironically he proceeds with saying he doesn't remember if he's seen it or not when lee asks him : D i totally agree with mike on multiple points, especially the "irritant" point which was a problem for lee but man i was surprised with mike's approach here. has he become a dad recently or something? :D 95% of the edge is gone. all in good spirit of course, im just teasing but i really was genuinely surprised after checking in again after years. i wish mike and lee all the best, i love this combination
It should say Lee Morris Destroys Architecture photos with Mike Kelley.... Lol. Although Mike is being wayyyyyy to generous IMO Edit: I just noticed the thumbnail. Lol... Is this the original thumbnail from when it was initially posted?
The Nate cook photo is beautiful. “Bad cosplay” good god how absurd and embarrassing. Those architectural details are an architects wet dream. All that custom steelwork, unique space, floating balustrades. It’s very David Lynch cinematic - stunning
I agree with Lee on almost all of his critiques over the years but he’s absolutely bonkers out of his mind on the orange stairwell. I love that one but I’m afraid it is AI
Watching this you'd think Lee Morris is the greatest photographer to ever walk the earth. But, it's just his hubris, that doesn't let him give credit to anyone else really. Downright embarrassing how he basically thinks he'd have taken a better picture at every single location. The "bad cosplay" comment was the lowlight of the video. Mike seems like a nice guy though, and was spot on with most of his assessments. Probably because he's a pro, and knows what it takes to create those shots. While hobbyists often have the mindset of "I will do better".
Yeah it’s pretty wild. He was telling us the story and how much he can hear now. I don’t know what all he has told the public so I’ll save that from him but he had very little hearing out of his right ear and now hears everything. It’s wild! -P
Lee has no idea on what he's talking about... There's something wrong with every picture... WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?!?! A SHADOW... WHY ARE THOSE PEOPLE WEARING CLOTHES?!?! WHY IS THE WATER CLEAR?!?!
