This is quite impressive. You have a man that has 80% of his body on fire and instead of doing “Stop, Drop, Roll” he’s taking a golf lesson.

Could be titled......... A Good Lesson Spoiled. Love Mike - Can't stand this Be Better Golf Moron. He can 't keep his mouth shut while Mike is explaining something. When I see a Malaska Video with this guy - I shut it off. I'd recommend Eric Cogorno he's not annoying like this guy. Only one worse is Matt Fisher. His videos are Instantly Turned Off.

This video has been a huge game changer for me. It is the first description of a golf swing that I, as someone of average athletic ability, can understand and implement. In fact, my first trip with the instruction to the range was outstanding, and I experienced a great sense of relief knowing that here is a swing that works and that I can repeat. Mike, the one aspect of the "timing" instruction which deserves further explanation, IMO, is the start of the downswing, which I believe is free fall allowing gravity to play its roll. I can see why Matthew Wolff, for example, gets his hands so high and vertical in his backswing which allows gravity to have a greater influence on his swing speed. Thank you Mike!

Brendan, Thanks for this follow up video to the previous work with Mike Malaska. Worked on the range today with Mike’s L to L and getting the hands, arms and shoulder sockets relaxed to great success! Effortless and very clean contact! Beautiful ball flight, distance and on target!! This video hits on the only issue I was having, getting the left leg to offset every swing. My guess is all the bad muscle memory from previous rotation and weight shift methods creep back into my swing. I am totally sold on Mike’s methods and enjoy his ability to teach the same thing in different ways. BE BETTER GOLF!!

This is a great video and really helped me with a concept. I loved the whole 'straight line' forces and clearing the left hip that was in another video. But I still struggled with my hips opening too quickly, not tipping the shaft and getting stuck. The idea of the club running into the ball and clearing the left hip helped me get in sequence. Straight line forces is the real deal. Much more natural athletic feeling than focusing on rotation.

Awesome video! The things you and Mike are talking about are very resonant to my swing, and I didn't know that was what I was doing. I always envisioned my swing as a see-saw. Left heel comes up.....then the right heel comes up to finish. And the motion of Mike's hand(and the sound effect) as the he pushed the left hip back was important for me to see the timing and how it all goes together. Dang, I need to hit the range!!! Stoopid work! :P Good stuff guys!

I like what Mike said early in the video about the strike of the right hand and the body naturally getting out of the way. It’s similar to what Shawn Clement professes...we naturally know what to do. I seem to get a lot of it right when I swing with my feet together. Feet apart and I slide or bump out my left hip.

Mike's swing philosophies just speak to me more than others for some reason. His swing descriptions of straightening (bracing) the left leg to move the hip out of the way and accelerate the club is such a natural athletic move. Golf is funny, about 6 months ago I was driving the ball better than I ever had and it all came down to this exact feeling that I kind of conjured up on my own. I've since lost it a bit and am desperately searching to "get that feeling" back! Btw Brendon, the acoustics on some of those drives! Phil and his "high bombs" would approve.

100% agree, more speed is primarily generated by straightening the left leg by pushing off the ground, which in turn drives the left hip behind you. Crucial is that this move doesn't happen too early, as Mike already said at 1:19, you have to wait until later in the downswing. You must wait to pour on the gas until later in the swing, certainly not from the top. Mike is teaching Sammy Snead and Ben Hogan lower body action, the classic swing, which in my opinion is far superior than what we see today with young pros launching both feet off the ground. The classic swing is powerful and has longevity, while the modern swing is very powerful but riddled with injury.

The section from 1.26 to 2.21 is the deal. This vid is excellent. Even if I didn't watch the rest, that section nailed it. Well said Michael. And I reckon in that one swing Brendan took at 2.00 it was the first time I've seen him hit with fluent speed. I've seen him hit plenty of balls but that looked a little different. This is the deal. This vid. Practice that left leg advice he gave and turn into muscle memory, there will be a lot more better golfers in the world :). Get it into Mus Mem and then let thoughts go back to like target or feeling the shot you're going to play and boom. That left foot cracking the towel. Excellent instruction in that section. Thanks Mike.

This is why Jack said that when he "was going for a big one," he made a deliberate effort to feel like he was slowing everything down. The feel is storing/winding everything up for impact. I learned the feel of what Mike Malaska is describing here, first on little chips, then pitches etc. You can learn to identify the "smash factor" on the smallest of shots first. After you find it and the timing of it, and it becomes ingrained, it becomes natural in your full shots. If you consciously straighten the left leg you can pull it as he did in one of the drives. But that's how you have to begin, later you won't think about it, and it flows naturally.

Very good instruction. Although the concept being illustrated here is one part of the entire downswing sequence. All parts play an important role in getting a good strike on the ball. If you can recall Tiger talking about his glutes not activating. Without the glutes activating correctly can affect club head speed as well.

I understand your straight line forces but my question, the club head movement is a result of centrifugal force as it is moving in an arc? well shit, I just had a lesson today (free 25 mins with new membership, woohoo) the coach was trying to get me to do some better rotation aswell as bringing the club more around rather than dragging it down at a high angle and the rotation was just difficult to get while changing the different angle, but I've just tried a little practice swing with the leg tip mike mentioned and I think I might have found the perfect way to get this done, looking forward to hitting the links tomorrow and seeing if I can get that drive further than it already is. I seem to be inconsistent with drives since I was getting it wrong from time to time, got a lucky long 250m drive once (272yds) but I'm more averaging 190-220, and without a doubt if I nail this downswing with the proper hip and leg movements I should be crushing most hits! Cant wait for the sun to come up again and get out there!!!

@Spudroe 4 года назад
You are correct but you are directing the club toward the target. Mike has talked about pushing a way from the club during is journey (arc/circle) around your body. He has a video with one of his LPGA students where he puts a bunch of balls in a basket with a rope tied to the handle and has her swing it around herself in a full circle. He really helped her feel how her body reacted to the forces created by the swing. Go on his YT page and find the series he did with the dark haired girl (spanish or latino I think).

Half way through this vid, straight line forces VS rotation. This is where I get jammed up. When I’m compressing my irons well I know I’m not forcing the hips to spin and weight naturally throws me forward. When I’m out of whack, trust is gone and now I feel that I have to spin the hips and shoulders. Ball doesn’t go as well and low back hurts like hell. What’s some ways to get that feel/trust back to save wear and tear and continue with good ball striking.

5:25 "...it understands straight line forces..."Eureka! I think I just interpreted that as the force coming from the lead hip pushing back will transport a stable trail arm via the force coupling across the body. Now I can see how the arms can relax (as opposed to the gorilla tension in mine) and the trail arm can just stabilize to deliver the sweet spot on the ball, no hit instinct required just be an athlete and swing the stick to run into the ball. Which is the only way to consistently hit the ball with a trail arm only swing - Duh! It was right there in front of me the while time.

No, this is not an advocacy for arms controlled pivot or small muscles swing. This is an argument for pressuring the ground with your legs to move hips rather than rotating the hips. And doing it with good timing in conjunction with arm and club.

A lot of talk about Jack Nicklaus who often said that he cannot release the head of the club to the ball too early in his swing. In order to do this simply at the top of your swing flick your trail wrist in order to bow your lead wrist as you swing the handle of the club as fast as you like. Your hips responds accordingly just as Jack says. Cheers
@BEBETTERGOLF
@BEBETTERGOLF 3 года назад
If you flick your trail wrist it will cup your lead wrist. No?
@thomasfraser9072
@thomasfraser9072 3 года назад
@@BEBETTERGOLF The flicking of my trail wrist quickly reverses course of the head of the club; it’s weight lags behind my hands. This is what bows/cup my lead wrist and bends the shaft at optimal impact to the balls. Another words the swinging of the handle must be faster and dependent on loosening our wrists. Once our wrists are even remotely tight the club head cannot possibly lag behind our hands to its optimal impact. Cheers Hope I made myself clear enough; because this one swing thought made 2020 an eye opener for me and a great golf year.
