@@wadurito His interview with Jay is super deep and philisophical, hope you enjoy ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gjpB9MXCfOE.html and I just saw he went on Tom Biljeu's podcast as well... hmmmm I lobe the internet atm... ;-)
You’ve got to massively respect Mike Posner. No longer cares what the world thinks of him and only cares how he wants to enjoy life. A lesson we can all take away
Listen to the original (which is what he's singing in this video). The remix is what everyone knows, but this original version has raw emotion, sung from the heart.
@@pauliecopez2683 same hear. Thought this was a bit cheesy back in the day when it came out. Seeing mike in this video and hearing his story changes everything. Dude looks burnt out on life. Lords knows I been there, hope he holds it together 👊
This version is stunning, but the pop version is, as far as I’m concerned, one of the loneliest things I’ve ever heard. The only way to miss it is to actively not want to hear it.
@@bakerfritz4681 I disagree. A lot of ppl don't pay attention to lyrics. They sing along but they're not thinking about the words. They're bouncing with the music. I've heard that song many times and never realized what it was about until I stopped and only paid attention to the lyrics.
@@kenbrunet6120 sad but true, recall reading tons of comments on blues travelers hook years ago along the lines of " wow back in middle school I listened/sang to this all the time and never realized...." So either they only figured out English after becoming adults or like you said just don't think anything of it past "this is catchy".
i can’t imagine being an artist and having your darkest moment as a song become a hit. this song came out when i was a kid, but i’m a teen now. i haven’t experienced all of life yet, but i can’t believe how blatantly tragic this song is yet this was still jammed to like no big deal. this guy has grown a lot
@@TPK_MAKG he’s writing music for a reason so people can relate, know someone that relates or jus for the vibe they made the remix for vibe where you can listen with friends and be lit, this is the emotional version/original for people to relate too
That's the way a ton of pop music is. Listen to Paint It Black. There's a lot of pop music that if you dig into it you'll realize it's dark and tragic.
Christopher Hitchens maybe youre just a kid, but I’m going to teach you something I took sometime to understand and I would’ve liked if someone had told me before, if you dont have something nice to say to someone, just keep it to yourself, cause in the end your insult talks much more about you than the person youre referring to.
We are watching a man that has deleted his ego. Even more so, (more importantly) Deleted the original extraneous pressures that have never mattered. Brilliant man.
My dad died in December after being diagnosed with cancer in late September. No one knows how many days and nights this song has helped me. Have a blessed day everyone and if you still have a dad, or a mom, appreciate it and give them an extra big hug and kiss next Time you see them. ❤
I'm 30 and I agree. I've lost so many loved ones at this point I just feel hollow where my heart used to be. I just try to live each day as my last because someday it will be.
Im finally learning all this at 36 years old brother. We all wish we can go back to our younger self and tell ourselves to make a change. But all we can do is try to educate the youngsters to not make the same choices as we did
For anyone that wants to sing along like me: I took a pill in Ibiza To show Avicii I was cool And when I finally got sober, felt ten years older But fuck it, it was something to do I'm living out in LA I drive a sports car just to prove I'm a real big baller 'cause I made a million dollars And I spend it on girls and shoes But you don't wanna be high like me Never really knowing why like me You don't ever wanna step off that roller coaster and be all alone You don't wanna ride the bus like this Never knowing who to trust like this You don't wanna be stuck up on that stage singing Stuck up on that stage singing All I know are sad songs, sad songs Darling, all I know are sad songs, sad songs I'm just a singer who already blew his shot I get along with old timers 'Cause my name's a reminder of a pop song people forgot And I can't keep a girl, no 'Cause as soon as the sun comes up I cut 'em all loose and work's my excuse But the truth is I can't open up Now you don't wanna be high like me Never really knowing why like me You don't ever wanna step off that roller coaster and be all alone You don't wanna ride the bus like this Never knowing who to trust like this You don't wanna be stuck up on that stage singing Stuck up on that stage singing All I know are sad songs, sad songs Darling, all I know are sad songs, sad songs (hey) I took a plane to my hometown I brought my pride and my guitar All my friends are all gone but there's manicured lawns And the people still think I'm a star I walked around downtown I met some fans on Lafayette They said tell us how to make it 'cause we're getting real impatient So I looked 'em in the eye and said You don't wanna be high like me Never really knowing why like me You don't ever wanna step off that roller coaster and be all alone You don't wanna ride the bus like this Never knowing who to trust like this You don't wanna be stuck up on that stage singing Stuck up on that stage singing All that I know are sad songs, sad songs Darling, all that I know are sad songs, sad songs
Leanna Cruz you are so right... it took him several let downs from doing mainstream music industry pop to becoming what he is and does today. Sad but somehow beautiful story if you ask me☺️
"Everyone wants you to forget that you're gonna die. Because if they convince you you're not gonna die, you'll waste your time doing what they want you to do."
based on the comments here it seems few people realize that this is in fact the original version of the song. The popular version is actually a remix. I bet mike never expected this version to be as significant as it is. Music is such a beautiful and powerful thing, I hope he realizes the difference his music has made on so many peoples lives. Despite his success he sure is underrated.
Thank you youtube algorithm. I needed to hear this song again and hear Mike’s real view of it. The song completely flipped for me now. Live your best life Mike. Not for us, but for you.
"They want you to forget that you die too so you spend money on what they're selling" This makes me rethink why i did the things everyone else did and never found happiness in them.
If ever I’m down and alone and need a cheering up and brotherly love I come here man, thank you. Keep smiling Mike, I owe you a beer, love to meet you some day 👍
I'm on the verge of losing my dad right now, watching this has truly got me thinking of all the times we have fought the disease together and through out the journey I have gained nothing but pure life skills . Thanks Mike.
I never realized how deep this song was, since I had only heard the remix, but after watching his interview with Paul and learning the story behind it… and now this performance… bro Mike is on a whole other level of artistry. This song hits. Soo dope.
my dad passed away about 3 months after mikes, i found this video at that time and there isn't another piece of music that helped me more in those tough times. Mike will always be a legend for that. Much love
Because now days, people only pay attention to the repetitive upbeat melodies of top-40 music. No one actually listens to the lyrics of "radio music". That's why Top-40 does so well. Listen to any radio hit. It's all repetitive beats and catchy melodic hooks! In the official version of this song, the catchy synth-sounding chords grab you. It's a proven, tried and true method in popular music! I'm not hating on Mike Posner, though. Also one of the reason why shitty mumble rap does so well. Horrible ass lyrics, but catchy beat and hooks.
dont forget he walked across the country by himself after his dad died and was bit by a rattlesnake in colorado and still completed the journey in 6 months. guess he took the forest gump method to heart.
“Everyone wants you to forget you’re going to die because if they convince you you’re not going to die.. so you’ll waste your time doing what they want you, spend money on what they’re selling.” -Mike Posner
Profound? He lost his dad and some friends... I guess everyone goes through stuff like that at some point. I only see a very sad looking artist who exploits his sadness to the max. That is fair enough, but that doesn't make it profound to me.
Been a fan of this guy since Cooler Than Me. He just quietly goes about being a great artist.. Always has. Love that. Criminally underrated as well. Thanks, Mike. For everything.
R.I.P MAC MILLER R.I.P AVICII R.I.P MIKE'S DAD Edit:thanks for the insane amount of likes, and of course R.I.P to all the family and friends we all lose daily.
UltraEdd oh come oonnn Of course it’s sad. people die all over the world and many die unnecessarily, but here it’s about certain people. When (hopefully not, may god blesses all of them) one of your acquaintances dies, you don’t say “never mind unknown people die too”
@@snepNL because they aren't famous people don't know them? there isnt enough time in the world to be sad over every single death. its not crooked its just facts
@@suckstosuck7605 so if you can't be sad about all the ppl why be sad about ppl you've never met, spoken to, shook hands with. but just bought a ticket from them to see their show or seen them in a moving picture. You don't know those ppl. You know their name and their product that's it.
I think he is the prime example of reaching a dream and realizing its a nightmare for him..im so happy it seems he has found happiness and is on a spiritual journey for sure...good luck too you mate..great music. Gets me through alot just so you know Mike..thank you
I randomly heard the radio mixed version of this other day and ended up down the rabbit hole listening to acoustic live session. I’ve got to say that Mike Posner truly is a amazing guy!
@@stevenboyko9176 post is a very down to earth guy. I still feel like they can make some emotional shit together even tho they live very diffrent right now
Cameron Fuck! Nice call ! You already can see more than hollywood record producers ! Hollywood is destroying everything. I can't wait till Cali had another big quake and floats off into the pacific
As a former singer myself, that second verse hits different. Love this song so much. Love the evolution of this man. Legitimate inspiration to so many.
“Everyone wants you to forget you’re gonna die. Because if they convince you that you’re not gonna die, you waste your time doing what they want you to do.” One of the most powerful quotes I’ve ever heard.
Mike, I saw you a while back…. Like back when you came to Bangor, Maine. I felt that you were troubled. I truly hope that you understand that life is life for each of us. You are famous, but you still have the power to be who you truly are. Who gives a shit if they don’t like it!!! You will always have the power to be who you are and still have that talent!
My dad passed away 18 years ago and I can't get over it. He suicided and I was his favorite person who went off to university and left him alone. Never underestimate or forget your parents and the time you get
So sorry to hear that. He wouldn’t have wanted you to stay back from school. No parent wants to see their child stay home. If you’re raised right, you spread your wings and fly. Don’t blame yourself. There is peace and understanding in Jesus. I said a prayer for you and really hope you’ll grab a Bible and spend some time reading the story of Jesus in the books Mathew through John.
You didn't leave him, you were with him the whole time. And now he's with you all the time - in your heart and your memories. I know you're making him so proud. Much love my friend.
I always come back to this video when I'm feeling down and Mike's voice immediately relaxes me. Love you Mike - thank you for entertaining me and making me feel better
For me it’s Personal and deep connection with Mikes story and song… I took pill in Ibiza too for real, 4months of life time experience on magnificent island 😃🤩💫
Such a strong message. Just live life, man. You can't control what it is going to throw at you. I've lost so many parent figures and brothers. Just keep living your life!!!!
love this and this song always finds me when i need it most. thank you so much mike. your an amazing soul and wish the best for you and those around you and to them. Live life to the fullest! I do everyday and this helps a little more to hear from someone who understands. blessed to be and blessed to sing it. love love love
I absolutely love this rendition of the song in fact the poppy radio edit never hit home for me, now i find myself continuously returning here in a basically weekly cycle and still every single time he opens up with "I took a pill in Ibiza to show Avicii i was cool" my dear god man it just hits different and rocks my core.
