Refreshing to hear someone do the Anthem just straight up like it was written. No huge embellishments, arrangements or interpretations. Very well done, what a great natural baritone.
sorry to be off topic but does someone know a way to get back into an instagram account?? I was stupid lost the login password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me!
@Mitchell Noel Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site on google and im trying it out atm. Seems to take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I know this is old. It’s so refreshing to hear the American National anthem sung straight, no caterwauling, no oohing and aahing, you KWIM. Great job, Mike Rowe.
And he did it without getting dirty. I know a lot of actors and actress's that could learn a thing or two about doing something and not getting dirty in the process.
Even though this is a 16 year old video... it's timeless and still freaking awesome. My appreciation and respect for who Mike Rowe is, and his values, continues to grow after seeing clips like this. The man is firing on all cylinders in everything he does or says.
Absolutely beautiful! He sang the national anthem as it was written and didn't make it about himself in any way like all the others I've heard, including Whitney. I know Most people Will get on me for saying that but it's just the plain truth. She did a wonderful job ,but all the stretching it out made it to some degree about her, Not the song itself. He did it Pure !
Tempo is perfectly traditional - it's not a song that's meant to showcase the singer, it's a song that represents strength and indefatigability of a country (an ass-kicking song). Phrasing is excellent. Pitch is excellent right up until the last rising line, otherwise a total gem of a performance. So well done Mike! I'm not even American and I'm like "Fuck Yeah!"
kladivous My dog would be more effective in the legislative branch. I like Rowe for president! He would have a chance at being better better than any president since Andy Jackson. However, "The Powers That Are " would destroy him if they couldn't buy him.
Now THAT'S the way it should be done. Just sing it the way it was written without butchering it with some off-the-wall "interpretation". Outstanding job.
He actually IS more famous than people think. He actually became famous because of his training and performances in traditional Opera. It's what got him the host position for the Discovery Channel and all his subsequent commercial roles.
not lying at all. my parents were friends with mike like in high school and just told me that he used to be in the baltimore sympany or something like that before dirty jobs. thats why he can sing.
He did opera here in Baltimore. When he sang this I was living right down the road from the stadium. And I didn't know!!!! Still haven't gotten over the heartbreak.
The tempo is fine -- it's supposed to be a march with a rit. towards the end--not, as others have put it, a slow meandering dirge. I usually mute the tV or change channels whenever i hear the singers start the anthem with that first dreaded "OooooOOOooo..oh-oh...OooooooooOooooo..........say." crap.
A lot of people don't know this, but Mike Rowe was actually in opera before he went into TV. There wasn't much money in opera for him. TV pays better. :-) But he still has all the training.
I still love that people forget that even though he has a dirty jobs he can sing which I think is phenomenal I miss dirty jobs man Mike please come back and do another 3, 4 possibly five seasons please I’m begging
Wow...first time i watched this episode i was really surprised that he could sing...and really well too....nice to know that even opera singers are not all about the glitz and the glam.
