Coming from a world of negativity and suffering Cus’ TAUGHT Mike what love even was he loved him and showed him love on such a genuine level you can tell that he was the first person to ever introduce it to him.
Mike's emotions reminds me of how I feel about my Dad. He died when I was young and I still at 52 miss him to this day, I cry every time I think of him. I will never be half the man my Dad was. RIP Robert Hopkins!!!!!
Because he knows. He had talent, but when he stopped training as hard and as consistent, every big boxer he fought beat him. Mike under Cus literally lived in the gym. He slept there and often didn't leave for days. People attribute too much of what top tier athletes achieve to talent. Talent isn't enough when you're giving 70% while your opponent gives 100%.
he whispered it cause hes getting choked up its when you wanna cry the words just are hard to come out. shows how much cus d'amato meant to him and what did for him.
when the "baddest man on the planet" starts struggling to hold it in and his voice squeaks to a whisper & he can barely speak about his teacher, you can understand how much Cus meant to Mike.
B-Rai87 it’s not only that, when you lose your parents and this person comes into your life like an angel it’s like you’re being given a second chance at a good life. If that angel is all of the sudden ripped away, it’s even more devastating because it’s like you’re being told that you’re not meant to be cared for.
@Galactica Definitely. I was born in 1988 and, for me, there's nobody else after Mike Tyson, with all due respect to all modern great boxers, I draw the line in 2005 when Tyson retired.
Modern day cus d’amato. Passing on all his skill, his knowledge his passion to the next generation. But imagine the pressure at that age put on him that one day you’ll be the world champ. It was a lot
When Mike wondered how Cus knew he could be a world champion, it struck me that Cus might have been the first person to really believe in him. To tell him that he could do it, he could be the world's best, he could chase his dreams. It's touching to see that Mike has so much love and respect for his trainer.
Well yeah, his biological father ditched him, his stepfather ditched him, the school he was sent to for troubled youths also didn't think much of him. Cus was the only one that took him in and believed in him.
And many parents do not give that to their children which leads to many talents being unrecognized. Thats why sport in a team is so good, there is someone that encourages you and your talents and i believe everyone has a talent in some way.
Its not that Cus was a magical seer, its that he had an insane amount of emotional intelligence and he knew how to handle a "troubled" kid like young Mike, by giving him a purpose.
Cus died more than 35 years ago, and if you didn’t know that, by hearing Mike talk, you’d think that Cus died just a few weeks ago. He still misses him incredibly
Cus took in a young kid and trained him to be one of, if not THE, best fighter the world has ever seen. Imagine how that feels as the person he helped. My god.
" it takes more than that to be a fighter" The way he could barely get the words out.. that is purest emotions right there. Could feel my throat tightning.
@@decoyheart218 Mike was in really good physical shape at like 14/15yrs old. He looked much older than he was. So much so that in one of his interviews Teddy Atlas admitted that they lied about his age to get him fights with older fighters. That part of the reason for why he became one of the youngest heavyweight champions ever.
Fr fr! Majority of the world’s population would not be able to survive Mike Tyson’s life. He has to be the only person on the planet, where majority of the world population forgave the indiscretion he did when he was young.
Cus gave him fatherly love. We feared our fathers, we respected our fathers, we loved our fathers. Fathers are hard on their sons because they they care and want their sons to be better than them.
@@jaybo516 remember to reassure your son. You’re a human too though man. Sometimes we freak out. Just make sure to always make up and cherish that connection. Your son knows you care for him but it always helps to hear. Don’t mean to seem rude. Just wanted to give a bit of advice. From one dad to another
Tyson lost 2 of the people that kept him on track. If not for that I truly believe he would never have gone to prison, or started abusing drugs so heavily, or started training poorly. And who knows how his boxing would have continued if he didn't fall down the wrong path. He may have stayed undefeated for his entire career.
It’s not that he didn’t want Mike to cry, it’s that he didn’t want anyone to see Mike cry. He wanted the world to view Mike as he did, unbreakable/invincible. He didn’t want the world to see any weakness of Mike. He wanted to instill unwavering confidence.
"How did he know I was the one? "He didn't Mike. It was a leap of faith. You honored him. Gave him a reason to live on and see you becoming world champion. You didn't let him down one bit.
Probably because he was an experienced trainer and he saw the best raw talent he'd ever seen. That's like asking Bill Belichick how he knew Tom Brady would be the one
@@James-sh2zd Again, there's tons of uniquely talented individuals who never make it to the top. It's not enough. When it comes to truly accomplished elite athletes there's something else there. Some fire inside them, an obsession bordering to insanity. An obsession to be the best. Those are the ones who makes it to the top and stays there.
Unfortunately Cus died about a year before Mike Tyson became the youngest Heavyweight Champion of the World.. It's sad he never got to see Mike Tyson become the Champ but Cus definitely knew it was going to happen.
Cus instilled something in Mike at 15 that it takes most men a lifetime to grasp. Through his philosophy and discipline Cus imprinted all his knowledge onto a lost young boy and left before Mike even understood what cus had really given him. I think it really hits him now, that’s why he gets so emotional every time he speaks of Cus
Very true, because the reflection at a certain age allows us to realize the genius, the genuine kindness yet still with strict and brute discipline they offered us to follow and yet sadly it is too late to say thank you into their face. I experienced it and I would give so much to say thank you to my mentor. That is the biggest pain Mike enocunters and many others who understand truly now.
You are so wise with your words ... He definitely misses him ... His guidance , his wisdom ... I'm sure Mike Tyson loved cus like some one loves their father 😭 For the first time in my life .. I'm teary eyes while writing a comment .
Yes, sometimes we need a little more time to understand what he really wanted to convey and give us a person who by the moment of realization may no longer be with us. It hurts. This is life. But better late than never.
100% the biggest question anyone asks themselves is that. People always see what we can't. Cus had the ability even if Mike didnt believe to show him he was. Still you see the bewilderment in the face of Tyson even after he became the champ.
I feel like these questions are profound, most people end up asking them sincerely at some points in their life, particularly associated with gratitude. I identify with Mike, he never felt like he was worth the effort. He still can't grasp his incredible self worth, but Cus gave him the opportunity to ask that question. Man, Mike is deep.
The powerful impact that Cus had on Mike is extraordinary. Cus passed in 1985. Well over 30 years later at this point, and he still can’t control the emotions when he has to put it to words. The amount of love, respect, fear and honor just can’t be suppressed. I don’t know the exact time frame Cus worked & fathered Mike, probably less than 10 years. The work ethic & knowledge he passed on to Mike still has a powerful impact on him present day. Cus was in the last years of his life when this was happening in his existence on earth. I would love to ask Mike how much of what was passed on he uses today. What is in the forefront of his thoughts. Also, his translation of it & how he uses it today for his children & himself. People like Cus make a difference. No matter how long you been alive, some of our best work may be waiting till the end of our story. This is very inspirational & we should share knowledge to make the world a better place. In the end we take nothing with us, materialized or accumulated. What we can do is leave things behind to help generations to come.
I can really feel Mike's pain. I had the same father son relationship with my late pastor. You made me the man I am and I get choked up whenever I talk about what he did for me.
@@johnsiedlitzki8381 yea but he didn't have that stamina...like i said i love Tyson but he stood no shot againts holyfield before or after jail..He just didn't match up..kind like frazier Foreman.
Sam Gaudino oh I disagree 100% because rumor has it Holyfield was using ped’s.. as the public knows he was working out with a well known bobybuilder. Evander was not a big guy, so he bulked up to fight in the heavyweight division... mike gave up in their second fight and the 1st fight Holyfield kept butting. Nobody can challenge Tyson in his prime... sorry bro
👍 Yes deep down in side Mike's a little puppy 🐶 dog with a great heart he just had to protect his self and his heart because there's some heartless ❤ 💙 people out here they we'll try you if you let them stand up for yourselves at all times if not you will definitely lose you mind to someone who doesn't deserve it, piece and love 💘 God Bless 🙏 everyone and be safe
Crying is healthy too from releasing stressed and crying means you are still sane in mind and heart, cus make Tyson a smart human being, until cus death.. Mike downfall was saddening but he became wise
When you look at the merciless force of malevolence that Mike Tyson once was, and then you see his total honesty, his humility when talking about fighters today or his personal flaws and limits, his reverence for Cus and Ali, the way he lives now always looking to be a better more complete man, it's hard to escape that somewhere along the way Mike Tyson has become one of the greatest success stories of inner transformation we have ever seen.
If only half the world could have the wisdom, ability to self reflect, and find true self peace like this amazing human! Love you mike. The world is a much better place with people like you around.
💯 Cus taught him to fight, but he gave him love like a father if not a father…. And every son loves or idols their father! Mike said that if somebody talked negative about him and Cus was there, Cus would beat and punch him! That what a father is supposed to do!!! If only Cus lived a few years longer!!!
Met Tyson at the Boxing Hall of Fame 3yrs in a row and every year he was so gracious and loyal his fans ,so humble!! He is do muvh more than a champion, he's a beautiful human thats more important than a trophy 🥊👑✌❤🌎🇺🇸
Mike really had something special with Cus. He looked at him not just like his father but like his boss and his creator it’s like he was a servant to Cus and he looked at him as his king . The emotion he feels for his deep.
@@brandonjackson3641 I remember when that came out. It was hard to beat Mike Tyson. You get hit 1 time Mike Tyson, KO you. Back when games was harder to play but we enjoyed the challenge. 🥊
@@N.M.T.K ok I never had the ninja turtles game on Nintendo but I still have it on Super Nintendo till this day and my favorite game on Nintendo was Double Dragon 2 or Contra
When you lose someone who’s been your only father figure it’s devastating to a young man. It leaves a hole that can never be filled. I feel Mike’s pain. when he speaks on Cus I get choked up.
"It takes more than that to be a fighter" That quote should be right up there with the greatest quotes of all time. Love....pure love. Plain and simple. The one thing that binds is all.
Anyone who has lost a parent can understand what Mike is going through. The loss is never very far. You come up with ways to manage it, to suppress the feelings, but that void is just there all the time, that absence of someone who loved you and whom you loved unconditionally. There's nothing on Earth like the love of a good parent and once it's gone you feel it the rest of your life.
When I see Mike Tyson cry and get emotional I cry with him. Deep down Mike is a sensitive man and has a good heart. I am glad he was able to reinvent himself and become a better person and learned from his experiences and matured. Given his background I am sure it was not easy to rise above it all. I wish him only the best in life.
It's the love, devotion, and gratitude that Mike feels for Cus that chokes him up. It's a very beautiful and intense experience, what is shared between a student and a master/Guru There is nothing that compares to it.
If it wasn't for Cus, Mike would probably be in jail or dead, he said it himself Cus was a father figure to him and I love how Mike still gets emotional talking about him, just shows the love and respect will always be there 💙
To see a strong man like Tyson cry for the love and respect he had for his dad, touches the heart. I hope he gives that back and gets to be that special for someone too.
THis is WHY parents MUST LOVE their children and fill them with a sense of self worth THAT comes from the fact that they exist and not because of what they can become or achieve!!!! God help this man...who is trapped in the pain of his childhood!
@@efecemylmaz2524 i just think his style is suited for holyfield. Evanders is great at countering and using his opponents agression against them. Not to mention he is tough enough to take tysons best shots and stay on his feet til the later rounds when mike is tired then holyfield starts outboxing him.
See what it means people? When you have that one person in your life that truly believes in you and recognizes the special talent and soul that you are. That's one of the greatest gifts to receive in life. We love and respect Mike for his talent and for showing respect, humility and gratitude to his coach and mentor. Mike was one of the greatest fiercest boxers to have stepped in the ring!
Seriously he was a young boy who was showed love unless u have walked in his shoes its hard to comprehend Mike Tyson nothing but love no judgement we are only human love ya my brother 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿🖤💛❤️
I believe that Cus came into Mike's life with a purpose. The purpose to have a young man, who was struggling in life to be the man he is today. For, his dream was to become the heavyweight champ, but the long term goal was for Mike to tell us the wrongs and rights, carry the knowledge that Cus gave to him. And most importantly, be independent of Cus. The beauty of Mike's story can make a man cry.
Cus was like a father to Mike. You can see him regress to the thought processes of his youth. You can feel that there is so so much that Mike wanted to say to his old man.
@Hugo If you say you don't think about race right now, I think you're being dishonest. I'm mixed and I think their relationship is beautiful and it does mean something that they are from such different cultures and genuinely loved each other.
I love Mike man. This guy has so much heart but it's the hardest thing in the world for him to show. As scary as it becomes sometimes he is so passionate about the ones he cares about.
Mike is the true world example of a man who changed for the better. Understands his past has accepted it and just wants to make his kids happy. He has grown as a man in strength and wisdom of the mind and spirit. Cus would be proud of you Mike. Never forget that.
