Tua(5'10) was older...But he could have done it, if his only championship fight was with anybody other than Lennox Lewis...That was the only chance he got for a belt fight...And Lewis changed the HW game, now they're all giants...Tua was prob one of the best who never got to be World champion in the history of boxing.
I love how Joe (who never met Cus) spends so much time explaining to Tyson (who lived with Cus in his home, and trained every day with him) what Cus was like
Exactly! Joe Rogan shut the fuck up, Tyson is talking to you, not you talking to him. How tf u gonna tell Tyson what his dad was like when you didn’t actually meat him. Nevertheless, never bring up irrelevant shit like Justin Bieber. Tyson don’t even know who Bieber is. Joe Rogan is so trash for this interview.
You punks read the top comment and just repeat it. The reason why Joe is the most famous podcast host is because he is curious. He wasn’t teaching Mike what Cus was like, he was telling him what kind of impression he left on him. But you dumb bitches can’t even understand that.
@@shervinnasrin Not since Nam man.... There I was... Charles everywhere..... the smell of burnt flesh and week old rations rotting in my cargo pocket... Charles definitely had his shit together that day! But I made it out... still don't know why I ate the burnt flesh and not the rations... but hey those were desperate times!!!
I'm so glad Joe Rogan was on this podcast to tell us all about Cus. If only there was someone else on the podcast that had a little closer of a relationship that could tell us about him.
You think Joe isn't aware? Honestly, how stupid do you have to be to think that? Do you think you're the clever one that knew Tyson and Cus had a relationships? Think about it. Like any great interviewer, you frame your thoughts hoping the guest will then correct, embellish, or add to it. They all do it. In Joe's case he's articulating in a way that Tyson can't so he's helping him out...setting him up to add more. You should change your name to "ExiledBecauseStupid."
@@williamm4366 Well it would be nice if he did but he can live his life however he wants lol. He’s actually said he just doesn’t have the patience to be a trainer.
WHen Tyson wonders why he was "chosen," he doesn't seem to realize that he was just unbelievably gifted boxer. Yes, that's right. Tyson was fortunate to have found Cus, but Cus was also fortunate to have found Tyson.
You're so right thing that's what Teddy Atlas said Tyson was 13 yrs old 190lbs with a neck full of muscle and could already punch like a heavy weight. I don't think it takes too much of a genius to see he was a natural. He only needed discipline and technique the rest was just natural ability.
Mike doesn't get the respect for fighting bigger guys. How many of his opponents were his size or smaller? I can't think of any. Imagine if he were Ali's height. To beat those bigger guys the way he did was unbelievable.
But to be fair, he was also extremly heavy for his height. Size doesnt matter this much, but weight does. Golovkin has the same height but there is no way, he could beat any top 10 heavyweight.
They'll make a Hollywood film about Mike and Cus one day. (Edit) I wanna thank everyone who promoted this comment, I wanna thank god, my parents, cause without you all, Mr. Hollywood would not of seen this. Word is spreading now, that without this comment, Mike Tyson wouldn’t of even existed. Peace and love guys 🙌🏻
Check out video where Jamie Foxx is telling opening scene from the movie about Mike (Jamie starting as Mike), thank me later :D you will see the whole opening scene by yourself
Hahaha love u Mike Tyson!! Funny dude, absolute Legend, so happy you beat your demons, Much love to you always, you are nothing but a real human being who endured and survived the craziness that life can be, You will always be the champion fighter for our heart and soul Thank you everything you have given us Sir ❤️💗💗💞🙏🙏🙏
@@barfymann362 you obviously are trolling.. Mike went silent on many occasions about different subjects and Joe bailed the podcast out. Or else the podcast would be 10min long only
@@Gatheri1 if it wasn't for Joe the podcast would be 10min at best. Check out Mike's podcasts where he is given most of the platform.. they are 20 25min long at best
Tyson is one of my all time hero’s. He’s turned from a scared traumatised kid that was hurt by everyone he knew (that could knock out any man in the world)… To a humble, genuine, conscientious, articulate and wonderful human being. I can tell he’s found peace
I need to study more of Cus D'Amato, he sounds like a man I need to learn from. The way he invented body mechanics in boxing is legendary and created legendary boxers. I have been working Cus D'Amato boxing methods and Iron Mike matches. Good teacher produce good students.
the beauty of psychology in his faints. If you aint attacking youre fainting. There is no overthinking, faint, and go in! Such a deadly, and demanding fighting style. My dam legs get sore so fast doing all that bs movement but us shorter ppl need it especially in the streets against the taller foos!
The craziest thing is Cus saw the potential in Mike long before we even saw him in his best condition. For that man to tell that young boy "you have the chance to be the greatest boxer". Like Mike said any person in that position would feel like they're being hyped up. Now we see knockout highlight reels of Mike and think "one of the best to ever box". The world is an amazing place sometimes. The things that can happen when people meet by chance.
JMSONE I bet every day in almost any country there is a young person who has the potential to be one of the greatest ever seen at a given discipline, given the right mentorship.
Dude, to say at that time he could be the greatest is still definitely a long shot, but make no mistake, Cus doesn't go up to random people and say this to them, Mike must have had a lot of potential and he's just being humble in putting it that way, sounding like he was a small kid with no physical/mental potential, which is far from the truth. The truth is they were both lucky they had met and created something amazing together.
He changed the subject to avoid an emotional roadblock in the discussion. A wonderful detour to avoid Mike to get stuck on a topic. That's how I seen it anyway.
brandon thomas yes that’s what he did, he is a psychologist now. Never mind that he was poking mike in the other parts of the interview Probably I don’t understand because I am not a psychologist
Mike is actually a boxing scholar on the level of Cus. The student is at least equal in knowledge to the old master and may have surpassed him in many regards. Being the equal of Cus and being able to teach and communicate it like Joe was saying is two different things and Cus still stands supreme but it's often overlooked how intelligent Mike Tyson is and the depth and breadth of his knowledge on pretty much all aspects of boxing and has the actual career experience, which was one of a kind, to put with it. He was watching film from the D'amato library when he was 14 and had Cus giving him personal instruction and commentary on all the greats and some fighters people never even heard of but were no less great. Like an old samurai master with his greatest pupil just unloading the distilled wisdom of 80 years in and out of the ring.
What's wrong with him mentioning Bieber? He mentioned the stress of being famous from a young age and Bieber is a great example. The guy has literally been stupid famous since he was like 12. Not defending the stupid shit the kid has done or supporting his music. But theres no reason why joe cant use him as an example
For some reason it's nice to see Mike as a complete person now. I guess it's becasue I can see we all have that within us. When he was in his prime, all we ever saw was the Iron Mike persona that they showed on TV, and we all sort f figured well, that's all he is. I never dreamed I'd see Mike Tyson, decades later, and feel good about hearing him talk about his life. That's some big corners turned.
Everything Cus did was History that will be told for hundreds of years we have witnessed his soul and teachings which leaves me with goosebumps- for Mike Tyson to have gone through everything with Cus must of been magical I look at mike in-oar and carry Cus in my Heart R.I.P to the true Champion.
The man that Mike Tyson ended up turning out to be is the kind of man I wish we should all aspire to be. It’s like it would take a 1000 years of consistent work to tap into his anger
Sometimes, there are things that happen that you can’t explain, but we should be gracious for each gift given to us, otherwise you will end up forsaken.
By the sounds of it, Cus Damato practiced something known as "stoicism", a classical philosophy that originated in ancient Greece and perfected in Rome by Marcus Aurelio, the ability to cancel feelings and emotions and just accept life as it is.
I look forward to hearing about how Joe summoned up the strength to become Heavyweight Champion of the World at such a young age. You're an inspiration, Joe.
This man single handedly drop giants infront of him... he was monster... nobody can compares him... he was kid when become champ... small guy small age... big heart....!!!
Mike Tyson was the ultimate disciplined boxing machine. A once in a century talent and only capable of what he did because of his intelligence and emotion. He walked the tight rope.
What a Great Man He Turned out to be! He struggled through his own personal Demon’s (Which I Can Tell You first hand Substance abuse coupled with Money is a Disaster) The loss of someone special & the knowledge of finding out one of your own Misled you big time is a hard thing to come back from! I totally understand him wanting to burn the world down! God Bless him!
Mike Tyson is the real man. He talked about a featherweight Japanese fighter with so much passion. Mr. Tyson doesn’t undermine the killer mentality of a the fighter simply because he is in a lighter weight
Man I love hearing these two guys talk I love Joe's show it's crazy how someone would hack in and block you from seeing more videos it's f up but no mind no matter I had to change all my info to get back thanks for your show
Never seen any heavyweight move like Tyson in his prime he was more like a middleweight... Ali was probably more mobile but he didn't have that explosive speed power and headmovement that Tyson had as a direct result of Cus's Tutelage. He was the master of getting inside without getting hit.
Tyson may have retired undefeated, stayed out of prison, and been the most popular and respected boxer of all time had his mentor been alive throughout his career. Mike lost his edge the further he fought after his death. I have never seen someone so tactically sound and intimidating as Tyson while in his short prime. Cus put Mike in a focused mental state that he could not find with other mentors and trainers.
Mike fucked anything that moved,if it didn't move he pushed it.Thats the pro the con is "Mike saying u can have my cell".double edged sword.thats what he meant.
Great interview. Mike Tyson is one of the best boxers of all time. Everything that he accomplished, in such a short time, is still jaw dropping. I have nothing but respect for Tyson. TERRANCE OUT
Mike, it happened because God made you to be the greatest boxer of all time and Cus was made to be one of the greatest trainers of all time. You two were perfectly matched.
Tyson had been through a lot. He was able to channel the 'raw' feeling into something great. Cus saw that potential IMHO. No doubt they both were lucky to meet each other.
