As a former British paratrooper, I would maintain my stamina for heavy load carrying by carrying a back pack no more than 35 lbs, and do hill walking with interval running. This was an all rounder and built my legs up as well as improving overall fitness, strength and stamina. Then when it came to carry out our normal 10 - 15 miler carrying 55 lbs loads with the troops, I was able to run up and down chasing people up. I see a lot of people in the gym with decent upper body but they often neglect their legs.

If you watch old movies/ video of Rocky Marciano, his style was similar to Mike's. Squaring low and exploding upward. Lots of power in the arms but the legs and torso were STRONG. He also had incredible cardio endurance. Rocky is a good guy to watch. Fought the best of his day and was UNDEAFEATED.
@justincase2281
@justincase2281 Год назад
@Hayder Al-Mohammad Agreed. My thinking was more about full on brawling assaults. Rocky had power and endurance. Mike had power and the style you mentioned, but if he had to fight 15 rounds like Rocky, he would have folded, and I saw him weaken in a few longer fights. And then along came Buster Douglas.🤔 Hmm. Cheers!
@s0ulow898
@s0ulow898 Год назад
@@justincase2281 i can’t remember the fight but Tyson went 12 rounds and he looked just as fast in the 12 as the first round while punching the entire time. his early 20s he was untouchable
@justincase2281
@justincase2281 Год назад
@@s0ulow898 Yeah, he was tough. No question. But as he got older his endurance began to wane. He trained hard for sure. But when fights got cut back from 15 rounds to 12 rounds, endurance took a back seat to getting the job done sooner. Power more than endurance was the priority. And though a knock out artist the early rounds, Mike didn't do well with Buster Douglas. Rocky could go the distance and brutally wear his opponents down right to the end of a 15 round fight. I used to spar with a friend who went pro. I can tell you from my workouts and sparring sessions there's a big difference between, round 12 and round 15. And remember, Rocky was undefeated. Cheers and Happy Everything!🙏🎄🍾
@s0ulow898
@s0ulow898 Год назад

when I work in the fitness industry, functional training was designed for old people and recovery from injuries not for sport. now I can't remember the name of the rugby team in England, the coaches had discovered functional training and they were first coaching team to have a recognised functional training qualification, they said functional training should not take away your spots specific training/ cardio and strength work, functional training should only take lees 1% of overall training

1) quads is the equivalent of the bicep for upper body, Everyone's obsessed with that body part but forget forget there's more than just want one muscle 2) your strength coach legs are undeveloped not impressive 3) functional training it's great for general fitness and get you in shape But if you training as an fighter You do sport specific training i.e your drills your sparring your cardio and so on Then add your weight training separately see you doing your barbell squats you doing deadlifts focus more on your hamstrings as there are bigger muscle group and more strength And finally train your calf, building up to a minimum of 100kg and progressing with more heavyweight

Back when I was doing triathlons, I spent a lot of time on “stationary bikes”, mainly cybex. One hour of high resistance peddling will turn your legs into hydraulic pistons that never fatigue. And if you want the real deal, immediately follow that up with a 10k run on the treadmill. Another insane leg development exercise I learned in Muay Thai. I call them Thai hops. Go into a deep, full squat. Place hands behind your head and then hop/bounce forward across/around the room for a 2 minutes. You don’t jump, you keep low in the squat and just bounce forward on the balls of your feet. And then try these bouncing backwards if you really want to completely destroy your quads. Most people won’t last 30 seconds. And I’ll also say this.. add some indoor soccer games and your legs will develop truly dynamic/functional power and endurance and you’ll have fun doing it!

Question about your speed video - Hi Tony, I completely agree that speed creates power, can I ask you opinion on loading up and throwing bombs. I know it can be worked on but I’m talking about that explosive power that your born with, that can’t be trained. I load up with my left hooks and even my jabs sometimes (I don’t throw right hooks, only straight rights, straight punches always get to the target quicker was my coaches philosophy), he’s a well respected amateur coach and we had world No1s in the gym etc. Anyway, my question is… if you can load up and throw them snappy bombs, it feels slower but I also feel I hit a lot harder doing that which often slows the pace down because your opponent usually doesn’t want to get hurt again or it ends the fight. If you have that ability, do you advise your fighters to mix it up? Throw quick shots then the big bomb or would you advise they conserve their energy at all times using speed instead?

I think it is a mostly forgotten, overlooked or unknown exercise, but the Harvard Step Test is an exceptional way for a fighter to build lower body strength & stamina, while also being easy on the knees. If done correctly, the Harvard Step Test is absolutely brutal and because of that, it builds tremendous mental toughness, as well as physical conditioning which is almost second to none.
