This ref gave Mike Tyson a 13 count and Buster Douglas a 13 count, as well. Iron Mike is not going to go on a stage in front of hundreds of people and admit that the ref made the same mistake twice. Besides, Buster was really pounding Tyson's face quite a bit. Buster used his long reach to his advantage & this fight was one-sided in favour of Buster Douglas. Who would go onto face Evander Holyfield and lose that fight, then he retired.

@@gmic56ify probably why your dad started screaming haha. The whole Long Count controversy was settled almost immediately after the fight. Your dad probably remembers that after the match only the ibf would immediately recognize Douglas as the champion. The WBA and the WBC did not recognize him as Champion until a few days later because of the whole Long Count issue. Basically what the whole Long Count thing was about was Don King trying to invalidate the results. The fact of the matter is no boxing match has ever been overturned because the referees count was a little slow and they were not about to start with Tyson versus douglas. The fact is Douglas beat the refs count, which is all he was required to do. Even if it was a little slow.

What does that even mean? Ya he was on drugs but saying shit like "the was a reason y they said keep him in the ring asap before he" whatever nonsense opinion you're spreading is ludacris unless you were in his training camp you really don't know and if you heard it from his mouth record what you heard because what you wrote may have tried to sound like a snappy joke but instead it came out as ignorant, maybe you were up "snorting to many hookers and banging to much coke" when you thought of this reply. I'm not trying to bring you down brother but life takes us all on a journey and Then knows the error of his ways nobodies perfect so don't be so judgemental on someone until youve walked in their shoes or were personally there because it sounds... Well I made my point. I'm just happy to see Tyson in his own way mature and grasp the wisdom and errors of his past and make us laugh about it. Just do better research next time. Facts are life and life is history. Get the facts wrong and it could really fuck things up! God bless you and have a nice day

We were headed to Dennys for breakfast the next morning (he’d elected to let my grandparents join us on that trip) and I remember him glancing at the paper machine then looking back at us then back at the machine. Only time I ever say him pay for a newspaper. We spent breakfast reading it and going over what could’ve happened. At that point Mike was completely delirious. He could barely stand on 2 feet. The ref gave him a bear hug just so he wouldn't fall down again and called off the fight. I respect you all cheering for Mike Tyson. But he clearly lost that fight. Buster did fall down in the early rounds, so it seemed like Tyson was going to win. However, thereafter, Buster exploded in the fight and was the clear winner. The ref counted to 10 so slowly for both fighters and gave them a few extra seconds. Buster obviously is much taller than Iron Mike, but he just couldn't reach him with his short punches and Buster was just hammering away.

The count was legit. Douglas didn’t look shook, he looked more disappointed. Tyson is counting extremely fast here, you can see the judge’s count in the background. The 10 second count isn’t a strict rule about whether or not a guy can get up. It’s more a rule about, “Does this guy seem good to fight after 10 seconds?” Douglas looked fine to fight even a few seconds in. Tyson, on the other hand, got his mouthpiece blown a few feet away and was crawling around like he didn’t even know where he was. He was rocked bad and clearly not capable of safely fighting after that. It was a legit loss. I’m glad to see Tyson own up to the laziness that crept in near the end of his young reign, but he legitimately lost to Douglas.

I love this shit and I respect the fact that Tyson wasn't at his best in this fight and Douglas had something to fight for the death of his mother Tyson got a big head didn't think anyone could beat him when it is always possible there is someone in the world that is stronger he got that big head and it got the best of him but the man he is today is a humble understanding man just like he was in his younger days and I respect him for that growing coming of age and still respecting where he came from in the end nothing bad to say about Tyson not to mention fact of the matter is he will knock the fuck out of just about anyone any age at his age right now to this day

*Sore loser. Douglas thrashed Tyson throughout the fight. Tyson was completely outclassed and outboxed by Douglas. One fluke shot by Tyson doesn't make a win. Besides after knock downs the referee gave equal time to both Tyson and Douglas. While Douglas got up to fight, Mike was in no shape to continue after he got knocked out.*

If you count with "1-one thousand, 2- one thousand", it's close to 10-10.5 secs. Technicality aside, Buster getting up alive from that Mike uppercut & knocking Mike out like that was still unprecedented
@mr.doctorcaptain1124
@mr.doctorcaptain1124 2 года назад
Buster hits his hand on the canvas in frustration at the true 4 count. He then watches the referee until the referee gets to 8 and then he gets up. Buster would have been up by a true count of 10 easily because he regained his orientation so quickly. He was waiting to stand up, as any professional boxer does. Why get up at 4 when you can take a few more seconds of rest and get up at 8? It's stupid. I love Mike but he needs to let this one go.

I'm glad these two comments are here especially the second one. I didn't want to say anything on a different comment and argue some pointless RU-vid argument with some fan boys. I think Tyson could have been possibly even the best ever but he's not. Because of things like this fight here. He had such potential and true power. I really liked him as a fighter and was a child, that was shocked even then by this loss. But he lost. That definitely was a very quick count by Tyson on his one man show and slightly slow by the ring/ref. But like what was just said, Douglas was there and waited until 8 like fighters that got their bell rung are trained to do. Those few seconds help get your bearings and legs back so much more. And he did get an extra couple seconds from the slow count but that count was going to be beaten either way.

Try using the stopwatch function on your mobile phone (or app) & watching video footage of the actual fight. You might be surprised about how inaccurate your "1-one thousand" estimation method is.

You don’t count like that though in boxing. It’s literally 1,2,3,4,5, an so on. You don’t get those slow counts unless the ref’s on your side.
