A 38 year old Holmes was'nt actually that far gone, he had a lot of fights after this and gave a lot of younger fighters a hard time, e.g. Holyfield, Mercer, etc. Larry's big mistake was showing Mike no respect at all before the fight, and said afterwards that Mike was much better than he had thought.
I have not seen such brutal knock out in the boxing history as done with Larry Holmes. Mike Tyson got Holmes for Muhammad Ali. Larry Holmes may be a good boxer, but far far less than Georgfe Foreman, Muhammad Ali and Mile Tyson.
