As always, check out Rohit's main site review for more in-depth analysis and some bits we could not cover in this video: www.servetheho...
With 48x PoE+ ports, over 700W of PoE power, 4x SFP+ 10GbE, and 2x QSFP+ 40GbE ports for under $750, the MikroTik CRS354-48P-4S+2Q+RM is an incredible value. It may be the best 48-port 802.3af/at PoE switch value on the market today. We found SMB-friendly management options including GUIs and integration with PoE monitoring, fault detection, and power cycling. We see if this may be the best value today for a new 48x 1GbE PoE+ port switch with 10GbE and 40GbE capabilities.

We use CRS 328 24 port poe 500w as access switches all over the place and they switches are rock solid. As soon you get all configuration done , plug and forget. The switch OS is match more then just access port or trunk in term of traffic handling. Right now mikrotik added MC-LAG which will allow integration for compute level into spine/leaf design. Passive Poe goes well with IoT devices.

the ~800W don't get dissipated in the switch, only maybe 100W. Of course, you still need to move a lot of air because there's no heatsinks on all the PoE ICs.
@Jonas_Meyer
@Jonas_Meyer 4 года назад
Great video as always but for @ 10:10 - Its not really a 800W box as most of the power gets send through the poe and is not converted to heat inside the box itself. True you have more heat to move caused by converstion losses for poe power but nothing close to 800W.

i've tossed all my CISCO stuff and gone full Mikrotik. never looked back. don't miss anything from CISCO. i have smoother performance, easier configurations, and my wallet is MUCH happier. and given that Mikrotik gives you the ENTIRE suite of tools on ANY and EVERY product... game over. Mikrotik FTW.

Thanks for the review, I was in doubt between the Ubiquiti Networks EdgeSwitch 48 750W and the Mikrotik CRS354-48P-4S+2Q+RM But this video convinced me to go and buy the Mikrotik. If not the 40Gbe ports ;-)

For me I don't see the need for a 48 port POE switch at home, but maybe somebody need it. I do really like having the option though, and having the 40Gig uplinks is pretty cool

These are more for the SMB market, but there are those with larger homes with multiple Wi-Fi APs and cameras plus networking to each room.
@kharkin0
@kharkin0 4 года назад
Yeah... 48 PoE ports for home is a bit too much... Too bad that CRS354-48G-4S+2Q+RM doesn't have, say, 4 PoE ports... With 12 10G ports, 44 1G standard ports and 4 1G PoE ports, I'd be set.
@GW2_Live

Cameras are something I had not considered, that would make it made understandable for larger "mansion" style homes
@kharkin0
@kharkin0 4 года назад
@@ServeTheHomeVideo Still... 48 ports... I can see those homes using CRS328-24P-4S+RM for APs an IPCs, but you'd need a lot of Mikrotik GPER things to cover the house and fill this switch :)

Sounds so fun to connect a bunch of rpis to run some absurd computing cluster poe style... Not saying it makes sense, just saying it'd be fun
@ServeTheHomeVideo
@ServeTheHomeVideo 4 года назад
Those types of clusters are more common than you would think. PoE makes remote power cycle easy as well. We talked a bit about why they are used in www.servethehome.com/aoa-analysis-marvell-thunderx2-equals-190-raspberry-pi-4/

As an owner of this switch for 2 years now, I can say it is quiet, solid, and absolutely reliable. Great managed switch features and I can run all my Unifi access points and Raspberry Pi devices from POE. Don't regret buying it at all!

@sashalexander7750 4 года назад
@@MartijnPet Got one off of eBay for 225 for a POE model. This is used enterprise gear that performs so much better than any new Mikrotik stuff. Plus Mikrotitk is really only good as a L2 device. Anything above that it slows down to a crawl.
@kharkin0
@kharkin0 4 года назад
Normally with MT devices there's a place for an argument about price/performance/noise ratio, but these larger switches do take out noise part of it. And with that gone, yeah, used enterprise gear would be better and more tolerant (if you want to swap stock fans for some Noctuas to make it less noisy)

@Another Language you can mix and match them as you need. It's all in the config.
@Ressy66

Patrick, plz stop comparing MT to ES, the ubiquiti junk can not handle half the throuput or PPS that MT's can, MT's can near match the Junipers, which incidentally beat the cisco. The only thing MT and ES's have is price similarity, thast where it ends
