I was hospitalised for three weeks years ago. I got brilliant care in general, but the one nurse that made me feel most human and happiest in the middle of all that was the one that took ten minutes out of her day to brush and braid my hair. Your work is appreciated, whether people remember to say it in the moment or not.

No problem love! There is pro and cons to it because the buns definitely breaks her hair and stunts her growth compared to if she had braids all the time

My heir similar to this. Suave naturals rosemary mint is a great detangler. Specifically the rosemary mint. Tried the others. They don’t work the same.

I use softee hair conditioner I won't use anything with sodium Laurel solfates

Pattern is great but I also recommend using a charging shampoo followed by a hydrating shampoo at least biweekly. Also I found that not using oils helped my hair tremendously.

I honestly took stuff like this for granted as a child and teen because I guess I didn't really care? Lol. But the importance of letting kids express themselves didn't hit me until I was in the salon recently getting my hair braided and a mother was literally cussing out her 16 y/o for like 10 minutes for saying she didn't like her hairstyle because it was too childish for her. Which I could agree with because I guess the mom chose the same style for her 16 y/o and 8 y/o. And yall know black mothers no one can tell them nothing bout how to raise their kids. That poor child looked so ashamed 😞 and her morther made her apologize and said she was cutting her lunch money to make up for the 60 she paid to get her hair done. Smh

I feel like more people are having cool hair and dying it and doing cool stuff, i always wished I had that kind of hair but we all know how strict black mothers are, I’m not being racist or anything I’m black myself but girls who are able to style their hair and do whatever they want with it should be happy because they are so lucky

I’ve noticed what looks like signs of traction alopecia which can be treated if caught early. Tight braids, ponytails, buns, cornrows, dreadlocks, chemicals and extensions can cause it too.

Growing up and having my mom comb my hair was the worst. I like to joke us curly and coily people still have trauma from our moms detangling our hair lol

Do you find your daughters hair hard to retain length..like it doesnt grow fast?

My daughters hair is really long because I keep it moisterized and I dont do it all the time. I usually style her hair once a week and the styles are really simple. Two pony tails withbthe ends braided or twisted, those types of styles are best for her hair.

These are the type of Moms my generation grew up in during the 60’s and 70’s. They were caring, living and teaching us everything we needed to know.

Try stretching the hair all the way to the end and blow it out stretched then brush through when mostly dry. Hopefully you can understand what I meant
