"Mildred Means Appreciation (1995)"- Clara Ward Singers

In the year of the 1995, Charles May, Madeline Thompson, & Marvin Jenkins arranged an Appreciation Service for one of my favorite members of the Clara Ward Singers, Mrs. Mildred Means. During this portion of the service, the Ward Singers, old and new, sung a medley consisting of 4 songs Mildred led during the Ward Singers' heyday; "The Lord's Prayer," "I Need Thee," "Up Above My Head," and the high note in "Travelin' Shoes."

@tdwh419: The ladies in black are the ones that were with Madeline's group of the Ward Singers. Left to right: Ruby Ewing (tambourine), Delores Garvin, Mildred West, Vi Crowley (purple), Mildred Means (red), and Madeline Thompson (black and pink). Delores Garvin is the soprano who was singing "Everything Will Be Alright" with New Spirit and hit that very high note at the end. OOOOH yes!

im a bit too late but where is Mrs Alice Houston?is she still alive?and what happen to clara ward group?keep changing their member...i really love this group

Alice Houston is still living. She just wasn't in attendance for this service. Regarding the many members, the Ward Singers were a very, very popular group and a lot of times they had so many dates to fill. Soo to keep up with everything, different sets of Ward Singers were formed. I believe at one time there were 3 different groups going around at once. Also, several members were unable to keep up with the busy schedule, so they left the group. There were times when a member may have been sick, or unable to sing on a certain day, so someone would fill in. So, that's why you may see so many different members.

I have trouble hearing it. The sound system lacks volume. Such great singers.

I apologize. It came from an old video tape and the sound was muffled. Even in the conversion process, the volume was adjusted, but it didn't sound good at all.

A guy I know who used to see them at Disneyland took several pics and he captured 1 with Vi running down the aisle. I bet it was really something to witness in person.

I always thought it was Madeline that started the running down the aisle thing but I would ve loved to see Ms Vi Crowley cut a few steps down the aisle
