I’ve loved Miley through all her stages for the last 15 years. The fact that she’s doing this kind of music now and covered THIS SONG. I’m gonna go cry now.
She sounds too twangy, like a country and western singer, to make it on the metal / rock stage. The metal / rock world is full of women who CAN sing the tone that is required, but I do not feel that miss Cyrus can hold a candle to any of them, in that genre anyway.
@DESCENDING I was thinking that at 1st but maybe she will actually bring new people to Pink who wouldn't have thought to give them a listen. I don't think it was anywhere near the original but she really does appreciate the work and seems aware it might be new to her crowd.
She'd double her streaming numbers if she released every cover she's done officially. I have a whole downloaded playlist on my phone that I listen to daily.
Her voice is worse than nails scratching a chalkboard while a knife scrapes a plate, someone hocks the world's longest lougie and the entire audience group dry heaves before projectile vomiting. That combined sound is more pleasant than that no-talent's nasty nasal man voice on helium.
It was written by Roger waters (the lyrics), and it's about him having a virus when he was younger. No deep meaning to the song other than that. Weird how a lot of people interpret it to be something it's not. PL have said this a few times. It's about a virus. Unless, of course, she's been seriously unwell from a virus, that her hands blew up like 2 balloons, then i take it back.
This actually made me really sad... came here from her Blondie cover and though I was never a fan I see her in a completely different light. She never got to preform what she wanted. Saying that she makes music for the audience and not for herself, especially when it’s clear where her passion lies, really just broke my heart. She fuckin rocks at rock.
Music is not bound by the age of men/women. Look at the Stones, Led Zeppelin (when you can get them together), and many more....Floyd, of course, takes an act of Congress to get going. But anyway, Miley has a raspy voice fit for many 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s songs in not just a few genres. The band Heart? I’m sorry but her vocals couldn’t ascend to that level, but Mama Cass, Janis Joplin, or Jefferson Airplane: she could handle them! I could see her getting into CSNY, Aerosmith, and The Eagles as a collab. Solo maybe, too!
Its time for her to break out and do what she wants. I’m sure she would find new followers if she continued with rock. Some people need to grow and evolve.

I have to admit, I wasn't crazy about Miley for the longest time, but recently I have been listening to some of the covers she has done and I am impressed! This one in particular is fantastic. She said she was singing it for herself and you can really feel her emotions behind it.
Yes, she hits multiple B2 and one A2 here which are low notes for a tenor. Though her belting has lost ease and got raspier (she was belting out F5 continuously in "Take Care" 5 years ago), she still has some decent moments in performances of "Heart of Glass", "Midnight Sky", "Say Hello 2 Heaven". She has an overall melodic range of G2 - E6, which is 3 octaves and 9 semitones.
I love how she's making fun of the audience and the lack of their interest in the song, but hey she got loads of listeners on RU-vid who probably will listen to this stuff again.
Miley done an awesome job on this Pink Floyd song. She can sing most anything and make it sound amazing I am totally impressed with Miley Cyrus. Her singing pop country or rock and roll wow she can sing anything
Despite how Miley reacted when her audience did not know Floyd's "Comfortably numb", since then she persists on singing more and more rock to them. Miley is the only person these days that can bring rock to young generations. And, although they don't know it, they desperately need it.
Say what you want about Miley I can't stop you. I doubt she really cares but her Guitar player nailed it and to be honest the music of Pink Floyd depends on exceptional Guitar.
I use to not like this young lady bc of a distorted view I had of her but after Jolie, Heart of glass, Zombie, and many other songs I am in total awe of Miley. Amazing Talent
It's pretty sad when you can't do what you really enjoy. Sounds like she's tired of singing that crap that made her famous, like the Can't Stop song she was talking about at the beggining. I wish for her to be completely free to do the good music she likes, because she has the voice, that's for sure.
Yeah she has the voice...but she cannot actually WRITE great rock music. She is a product of pop/production. There are plenty of women in the history of rock who not only have the voice, but can WRITE the songs too. Miley cannot.

I don't wish to hurt your feelings as I think everyone should be free to love who they want to. :) I just think she is too fake and too into promotion and constantly needing attention/tweeting/taking selfies all the time... and trying to be provocative.....that can work, if there is real interesting talent behind it...but when there is nothing there, it just becomes vapid posing....and dishonest. I don't find her very interesting in any way shape or form...I guess I was just lucky that I was born in an era when there were great women who were singer/songwrters and had all the talent to boot, and did not have to worry about image and trying to sell something the way Miley does. Chrissie Hynde, Stevie Nicks, Joni Mitchell., Debbie Harry, Christine McVee, PAtti Smith, Annie Lennox, Those were real women with real talent. They were genuine...and it came through in their music. And later on, Sheryl Crow and Grace Potter....etc...And a personal favorite, Kim Deal and also Kim Gordon and PJ Harvey Miley always looks like she is trying too hard to craft an image, be provocative, etc....because she has no actual artistic talent in terms of song creation. It always seems forced and disingenuous to me.

I feel the same way you do. Long gone are the days when the great artists could overcome the mass market/reality tv/twitter personality media type. Ironically, i remember when she as born, because Kurt Cobain's daughter was born right about the same time. it is so strange tha back then in 1992, were looking at the last era when truly great artists were appreciated, and it had not been overcome by internet/social media to a saturation point like now. Who knew that awful Billy Ray Cyrus' kid back then, 20 years later would become the perfect representative symptom of the mediocre disease that personality driven (as opposed to quality driven) "art" is today. Very depressing.

Didn't like her at first, then she got off the commercial train and she started doing what she likes and I started loving her. What an amazing voice, artist and probably person. I love this.

Never liked her that much, but covering Pink Floyd? Gotta respect her for that, as most of her fans have probably never heard of Floyd, and more people listening to and enjoying great music is good for everyone.
Floyd's my favourite band, has been for the last decade or more. What most don't realise about Miley is her love for music and the kind of taste in music she has. Hear her cover of Led Zeppelins Babe I'm Gonna Leave You. Before starting the cover she talks about how she's performing the song to remind herself to always listen to "good music". Her versatile taste in music, paired up with her versatile voice and her personality, are exactly what makes me even consider calling her one of my favourite new age singers of all time. Sadly, people and the media don't go beyond seeing what they wanna see.

I have to say Pink Floyd has been my all time favorite band for 40 years now and this is the first time I've ever watched a Miley Cyrus video but sure as hell won't be the last.
This kids don´t know anything from Pink Floyd... maybe "Another brick in the wall" or "Wish you were here" (the most popular songs in radio)... its a cool performance for the girl, but the most impressional part (guitar solos from David Gilmour) were lost.. its not that bad, i thought, maybe she should ask David for a Overcross Version, i would appreciate this, but only if David Gilmour plays the guitar...

honestly not even pink floyd sing the verses live that low, that is some skill. Miley has risen in my estimation for even attempting this song. It must be shit to be forced to perform material that doesn't vibe with who you are artistically.

I am 57 and I have only recently started to listen to her as I thought she was just another hyped up auto tune performer. How wrong I was, OMG she is so talented and so many personas. I have been listening to her Backyard sessions and she is truly amazing.

Loved watching this. Miley reps this song hard....it's nice to see someone from the next generation really feeling this song and getting it. This woman has such a powerful voice...like a Dolly 2.0 when tiny Dolly really sends it in that powerful southern voice...Miley, you've obviously been through a lot and understand the pain of this song girl. Great melodic interpretations throughout too.. Keep doin your thing, and may the pain you tapped into in that song be increasingly a thing of the past as you embrace the blessing of life.
