I was hit by two pellets of 00 buckshot at @ 125 yards. One hit a pistol in a bandolier holster. No damage to me or the gun. The other busted my safety glasses off of my head, hit me right at the outside edge of my right eye socket, and instead of going through my eye socket into my brain it tracked along my skull under the skin and came to rest against my temporal artery above my right ear. A third pellet went through the rifle scabbard on my snowmobile. I was blinded in my right eye, but I could tell that my sight began to slowly return @ two nights later. My sight was fully recovered @ three years later. Just one ball can really ruin your day. I run a BuckKicker extra-full choke tube in my Beretta 1301T. It consistently puts all 9 pellets into a silhoette target @ 60 yards using Remington Express 00 Buckshot.

Glad to hear you were lucky and had a good recovery...I wouldn't want to be hit by buckshot from any distance. The Beretta 1301s seem to be a pretty nice shotgun, only thing I have issue with is the pic rail screws seem to come loose and the allen head is an off size. Keep an eye on the rail and check for looseness often.

Thank you for this presentation! I picked up some 25rd boxes on sale. They should be good enough for some shotgun plinking after hunting season.

They'll be perfect blasting/plinking (if you consider a shotgun a plinker, lol) ammo for sure. Probably work well in a home defense situation too. 00 Buck is nothing to be trifled with when it is being slung at you!

In a "normal" situation I would have probably said the same thing...but trying to keep the videos somewhat family friendly, LOL. I really was worried about the spread and my GpPro being in the line of fire...I mean it isn't like a rifle where I am in control of the single projectile - buckshot has 9 little minds of their own, LOL. Thanks for watching, it is very much appreciated.

That Federal Flight Control 9 pellet is some great shoot 00 Buck, imagine how tight the pattern would be if I was using an Improved Cylinder choke rather than Cylinder Bore! It would still likely be a fist sized group at 25 yards. Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it.
@MD-mm1zv
@MD-mm1zv Год назад
Seems Flite Control is really intended for cylinder bore barrels, and mimics appropriately-choked shotgun barrels. I'd expect a much tighter pattern with any decent buck round using modified or improved chokes. Some tacticals wisely feature choked barrels. The M4 comes to mind.
@Halfmilesniper
@Halfmilesniper Год назад
The Flite control wad does a good job of keeping those pesky one pellet flyers from happening. Regular buckshot you might have 7 or 8 bunched up nicely with 1 or 2 stray pellets quite a distance from the rest. That stray is just like "that little guy" of Super Troopers fame, LOL

I had picked this Military 00 Buck up a while ago but never had the time to test it. Glad I didn't try using it in competition, that could have been really ugly. It will be great as some SHTF back up ammo no doubt, it does appear to be great for CQB with the scattergun though. Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it.

@gabrielgalaxygh I bought mine years ago direct from Remington for under $300, I didn't think that old info would be close to current prices. I does get close on the used market though. They are a great shotgun and the gas system really eats up the recoil especially with slugs.

At 100 yard you could still spray a group of bad guys and get the “oh sht! I been shot!” Factor. They don’t know what they or their accomplice was hit with and how bad. It can cause a quick surrender with less casualties. It could be exactly what you need in the right circumstances. Hope I never find out.

Interesting. But I just don't get the fascination with Flitecontrol ammo. Why go through the extra hassle and expense when all you have to do is change the choke if you want to take a longer shot? I think you will find a full choke out past 50 yds. way more effective than flitecontrol As far as a close up shot you can't beat having a little bit extra spread; after all is that not why we use buckshot up close if not just use a slug all the time. I have been deer hunting with conventional buckshot ammo for 50+ years and only had to pull the trigger more than once, one time out to 50 or so yards. They all fell right in their tracks. I can't imagine what would happen to a man. Even at a 100 yards. I would not want to be on the business end of a full choke shotgun loaded with buckshot and the shooter would not have to go to his knee and take a aimed shot. By the time you do that the shooter with a full choke loaded with buckshot would have gotten off his whole magazine + the one in the chamber. I bet you right now that would give you at least 10, buckshot pellets on your target before you took the first aimed shot from the knee. Anyway keep the vids coming I sure do find them interesting.
@Halfmilesniper
@Halfmilesniper 5 месяцев назад
In my case it is because I compete and the match I shoot requires a cylinder bore...no choke. The Federal flight control holds a 6 inch group from my 11-87 at 20 yards. Standard buckshot will have a 20 inch spread at 20 yards running a cylinder bore.
@billdye3530
@billdye3530 2 года назад
I knew the Military wouldn't be as good as the Federal but was surprised how bad it opened up at 50 yards & 25 yards. Just my opinion but for 40 yards & less the slower - less recoil - rounds don't spread much more than ones going 1350 & faster. The cup design helps most. Hurt less on recoil for us old guys too. Lol Federal is the best.
@Halfmilesniper
@Halfmilesniper 2 года назад
The Federal box claims that buckshot is running 1350 FPS, I have not chrono'd buckshot though to verify. I agree the Federal buck is great. I might have to do a video on the buckshot stage of fire at the Police Nationals...if I can get someone to run the target system for me. 5 shots in 5 seconds doesn't leave much time to run the system and shoot.
@billdye3530
@billdye3530 2 года назад
@@Halfmilesniper 5 shots in 5 seconds & staying on target is very quick. I'm not quick but I can fire quicker with my old 870 bringing it back on target faster than my 1400 semi-auto. I added a Carlson rifled choke to the 870 & it really helped slug & 00 Buckshot loads. Need to try it with #4 buck to see how it does. The 1400 is Modified choke but shoots like Improved. Tempted to try #2 steel - for waterfowl - in the 870 but choke says No Steel. Steel may carry farther than the 00. Good video comparing the two.
@MD-mm1zv

Maximum range for buck is 15-25 yards. Much less in close quarters with high collateral risk. Slug to 50 (optimal), and to 100 (SHTF). JMO tho.
@Halfmilesniper
@Halfmilesniper Год назад
Up close and personal, buck shot ( and bird shot) will act like a slug. Once you start extending the distance buck shot spreads pretty quickly. Generally an inch per yard.
@TheBeefSlayer
@TheBeefSlayer Год назад
“Not even for suppressing fire.” Why not? You are still shooting at them and they are still taking buck shot all around. Even more than a rifle. Suppressive fire is just to make them keep their heads down. If you aren’t intending to hit anyone why would you not use it for suppressive fire???? Seems like the perfect tool for the job. Every one shot will give you 9 impacts around the enemy. They don’t know it’s buck shot. Plus, 00 is about 9mm and traveling near as fast. I would 100% use volleys of 9 x 9mm for suppressive fire. Why not the buck??? Was it just a knee jerk statement? I’d use it at 200 yards for suppression if I had it. Make em bleed and take the fight out of them. Score lucky hits in the face potentially.
@Halfmilesniper
@Halfmilesniper Год назад
It was kind of an off the cuff statement, but I still question how much ooomph a 00 pellet still carries at 100 yards or more. I honestly don't think I have ever seen any penetration studies using buckshot at distance...hmmm....if I ever get any ballistic gel I know what I want totry.

@Halfmilesniper
@Halfmilesniper Год назад
It is the Sheriff's Academy range, plus I was on the 100 yard bay and too lazy to walk back to the picnic table behind the 100 yard or that other small bench thing at the 15 yard line. Its OK, this is, or was, my working shotgun. It has seen much rougher use than being set down on the pavement.
