Can’t think of nothing better than railfanning with your best friends, or “your boys” in a red pickup truck, sweet. Awesome Iowa Northern and CN action, and a military convoy to boot, well done Red. Be safe.👍🏼
Man, those Iowa Northern blokes must have had their bollocks frozen off!! Probably yours were too in waiting! LOL. Great catch on the world's greatest armed force (Go America), and I'm tipping it, warent T- Shirt weather. Seriously thanks for going out in that shite weather and bringing us some more Reds Iowa Train Videos 👍👍👍❄️❄️👍👍👍
Thanks Agent Mulder! Hopefully those GP38 units had a good heater. I spent close to 2 hours there that day. The military action was a big surprise! Temperatures in the 30s tomorrow, almost t-shirt weather🤣
Moves like this are always interesting to watch. Thanks for taking time to record the whole thing and then editing out the dead spots. You and “your boys” must have been there for several hours.
@@redsiowatrainvideos6645 I hope our military is wrong about what ive been reading, but some of our top military leaders have been recently saying that the US will be at war with china by 2025, thats a very scary thought, and could be the reason for the military trucks out & about in Waterloo, those containers could be loads of weapons if theres a ground conflict, and i really hope theyre wrong in this case.
@@redsiowatrainvideos6645 in my opinion, having a military construction unit nearby is much better than one equipped to do warfare, and it probably wouldnt use ground troops, but would be a nuclear war, which would end the world as we know it.
This was an interesting video of Canadian National and Iowa Northern action at Canadian National's Waterloo, Iowa rail yard. There was a lot of movement of the Canadian National's L570 and L571 trains before the Iowa Northern could get out of the B Yard lead and on to the Canadian National mainline. The military truck movements must have been associated with the Army Reserve Unit. The weekend of January 21-22, 2023 must have been the Unit's monthly drill weekend.
Glad you liked it Thomas! That branch of military is considered a construction unit. They made for some great content as I waited for the CN and Iowa Northern to finish their work👍
Real nice, Red!! No reason other than stubbornness to not let the IANR go first. Only had 2 engines. Dispatcher having a bad day & taking it out on that crew. I wonder if there's a way to report him. Should always act professional & leave the garbage at home.
Thanks Bekleidung! Yes, the Iowa Northern was having trouble repeating instructions as you could probly tell from the radio. The dispatcher definitely was low on patience that day. Sometimes I wonder if the CN dispatchers treat the Iowa Northern crews differently.
A retired friend of mine worked for the SOO and they had several very poor radio reception areas so you tried to say everything near a repeater. One time it took seven tries to get the message read and correctly repeated. This was in real rural North Dakota
Great catches Red , I was surprised you did drone shots being the airport not far away . love the train meets , Would you know why BNSF has DPU units and CN doesn't ?
Thanks David! I was just on the edge of my fly zone there and had to keep my altitude pretty low. I believe those BNSF trains are traveling quite a ways West and need DPU help with some extreme grades.
One item also that could play a factor on the CN is how much work their trains do en route and how much HP is needed to perform it. Those Chicago to Omaha runs are double digit most likely. Main line unit trains and intermodals and gen frt going a long distance seem to get them fairly frequently. I watch a YT Channel where you see the daily Sault Ste Marie to Green Bay Freight and is usually 2 hi HP up front. About once every other week there is a mid train dpu and it can be on days with very heavy steel loads or cuts of ore concentrate. Also this cold weather will bring out their air pressure boxcars to keep it stable
Sometimes Butler yard in Wisconsin on the CNWl had that problem if two trains showed up at the same time and a local wanted to also make a move. At least the furry friends took it on stride. The WB CN was like a train and a half as they had extra power for the unit ethanol train they we're taking out for loading. That old MKT looked lost and the ever stealthy AEX garbage cars made their appearance. Those OMNX gons are built new for them. Omnisource Metals. That single gon is only half filled so the contents are heavy a few items look like old sewer grates. Poor Iowa Northern had to sit back and watch the parade which included the National Guard which were probably looking for their DODX. flats to transport them to their training areas. I had the Kearney VR camera on yesterday 2\1 and if you were at Montour you'd have done well. An EB with about 50 empty gondolas inc many CSX the type used for hauling those big aluminum slabs @ 3pm. Followed @ 320p by a unit Grain Train with a CP GE a UP GE and a BNSF DPU. Around 5pm a WB with 5 units which may have included a Heritage Unit along with a NS unit. Can't be everywhere at once unfortunately. We finally got 8" of snow
Yes Paul B that was kind of a mess that day! If you listen close the dispatcher tried to talk the Iowa Northern by the signal early on. He was unable to repeat the dispatch instructions properly and had to wait for both CN trains to clear. Haven't been to Montour in 3 weeks. Too darn cold lately. Gonna head down there Saturday and get what I can. I've been deprived of UP action lately!!
@@redsiowatrainvideos6645 the Jaw tooth 🎥 this AM 2-2 has two AEX green mystery cars with tarps on going NB on CSX leaving Cincinnati so quite possibly headed to the UP @ Chicago. If interchanges are their usual slow self you have a fighting chance of seeing it pass-through Montour this weekend
@@paulbergen9114 I'll keep an eye out for them Saturday. I should be there most of the day. The UP is replacing a bridge on the West edge of town soon. Be nice to catch that job in action too!
IANR guys aren’t taught everything in fine detail quite like the CN. In class for a week then out in the field 5 months learning how to switch and move a train. Then another week in class and on your own. CN it seems like you spend 3-4 weeks in class, out in the field a few months, back to class couple more weeks. Then finish whatever is left. Special move like that for IANR is a pain. Inpatient dispatcher trying to squeeze two trains into the same block through PTC. And one crew probably have not been in that kind of scenario more than one other time. Both crews talked to that dispatcher like hey we are looking right at each other they can squeeze in quick and move. One dispatcher will be like what ya need to do guys? This and this. Alrighty got ya lined up thanks guys! The other hey we need to do this and this we (the crews) have talked to each other and are all good. Just need permission. Dispatch is like no no no now repeat the 50 words I’m gonna say real fast exactly how I said it
Yes IANR 3808, I remember that day well. How frustrating for the crew on that opposing move. They could have gotten on with their work a lot sooner if the dispatcher was more understanding. It seems like the dispatcher is more friendly with the CN crews than the IANR crews.
