This is how I remember Channel 9's MILLION DOLLAR MOVIE beginning back around 1960. They later used film footage of Times Square to open the show, but the rising clapper board made an imprint on my impressionable young mind. My favorite MILLION DOLLAR MOVIE presentation was "The Jolson Story". And remember, "if you missed any portion of today's movie or wish to see it again, the next presentation will be..." Same movie - eight times a week!

WOR TV had the best bumpers and intros... Always gave me a cozy and relaxing feeling growing up in the Bronx back in the seventies and eighties... GOOD MEMORIES!!!

Great post. This is just how I recall it with the movie clapboard and the Gone With the Wind theme song.

The clapboard appeared in the 1950s on WOR. When King Kong premiered in March 1956, the clapboard was replaced by Kong standing over Manhattan. I was a kid, but I remember it well. It was accompanied by a battery of sponsors read off by the announcer. HO Oatmeal was one of the products.

How I remember this so well!! So great to see! BEFORE CABLE TV took hold of our lives! So 1970s NYC! A Different time and place.....I LOVE it, but also makes me feel sad. It reminds me of so many people no longer with us. For me it was a simpler time in life. Way to much crap today! Very true, not a whole lot to choose from back then BUT YES! less was much more!! GREAT memory..............

I remember that Million Dollar Movie opening. This was before they changed it to the one showing scenes of NYC. I remember the chalk board thing, only in B&W!

This version of Taras Theam is from the early to mid 60s showing of MDM....(which cant be found anywhere on RU-vid) the one with the guy making change at the paper stand.the phone off the hook..and the guy going down the escalator....the later version of taras theam was played at a faster pace

I've been looking for that one for years and can't find it. In my opinion it's much better than the 1970s one. It was kind of haunting and mysterious. A time machine to my 10 year old self.

The clapboard opening here might be a recreation of the original. The Tara's Theme used here is also incorrect as I remember it. It was more like the version used for the Times Square opening.
@ChelseaRialtoStudios
@ChelseaRialtoStudios 3 года назад
Yes, this is a recreation I put together. The recording used for the Times Square opening was probably recorded around the time of the 1967 reissue. I think I used Max's 1954 RCA recording for this recreation.

Hi Barry. I have noted over the past several years, through your comments on vintage TV related videos, that you are extremely knowledgeable on the subject. I didn't know who else to ask, so...Do you know if the 60s-1972 NBC Mon, Tue, and Wed Night at the Movies intros were basically the same (other than day of week) as the Sat 60s-1972 version (for The War Wagon) that is currently on RU-vid? Thanks very much! Bill

I believe I used the Cyril Ornadel MGM recording done in 1961 for the Civil War Bicentennial. That was the recording used by WOR.

Early 60's through early 70's. I made a reel-to-reel recording off air in 1971. Fultonhistory.com has newspapers from the tri-state area. You can search there for myriad dates.

AMAZED that you said The Jolson Story!!!!! When I was home sick from school I would hope that the Jolson Story would be on. Invariably... it was!! I guess because of that I've had a life-long love affair with that film. I have it on Blue Ray along with the sequel. And I loved the open with the Tara theme song. I'm such a geek! Gary Stein

Back before TV thought of themselves as expensive goldmine territory. Now all we have at night is Infomercials and crap selling channels.
