I have close friends who are a high earning couple with a new baby. One is a director at a pharma company and the other a partner at a venture fund. They work a lot, and found a nanny that they really trust. There is absolutely no upside for them to reveal their finances to the world via a show like this, lol, and besides you can just go onto glassdoor to get an idea of what those occupations pay wherever you are. I know even though he works at a venture fund they have a lot of money in wealthfront, because it came up in conversation once (I also have about 75% of non-real estate investments parked there).

WDYM she's still making awful financial decisions. If what she reported was accurate, she should have already been able to pay off her $15,000 debt (student & credit) with her allocated savings over the span of 7 - 8 months. I highly doubt her employment as a nanny means she gets an employer match on her IRA plan which means that the interest on her loans likely appreciates more than the growth in her simple IRA & roth IRA accounts.
@fineway7053
@fineway7053 3 года назад
I'm honestly curious how much effort by CNBC goes into fact-checking the actual reported income and debt amounts at this point. This also bothered me with the other guest who worked as an operations consultant for Amazon and likely included her stock options as part of her overall income and also as part of her savings. Especially when a large part of Amazon's compensation is likely in restricted stock units. I just have this feeling that hash tag glam life pushes people into over reporting actual income and under reporting actual debt. There's just too much of a smoking gun with someone being unable to pay off debt when it is less than 10% of their net income. Either that or the $300 Yeezy's must have triggered me.

Her debt payments are so high because she’s on Baby step 2 (aggressively paying off debt using debt snowball). Baby step 3 & 4 is where she’ll start aggressively saving 3-6 months expenses and at least 15% of her income to retirement. She’ll be completely debt free in 3-4 months with the payments she’s making. I would love for millennial money (or (ahem) you Graham) to do an update on her in 6 months to document how her budget has changed once she’s debt free.
@renaldowijayalim7463
@renaldowijayalim7463 3 года назад
this is just too accurate. I started step 3 (aggressively saving for 6months) last February due to threat of unemployment (due to covid ofcourse). in the end I get to keep my job until today, savings for 6 months of expense, retirement savings (equal to that 6 months expense), and stock investments equal to my 10 months expense. never had this much money in my life XD

@mjones8887
@mjones8887 3 года назад
@@Tameker6 Of the $700, $600 is for chef meal prep the other $100 is her eating out. Honestly with her paying over 4K a month for the remaining 15,000 of debt she has the room for the expense. The extra cash per month isn’t going to reduce the amount of months she has left to pay it off... it will only reduce the balance she has to pay in the last month. However, she is actively contributing to her retirement (baby step 3) while in baby step 2. It’s not recommended by Dave Ramsey to contribute to retirement accounts while paying debt but a worldwide pandemic changes things and she’s doing what’s best for her.

I am a nanny and private teacher in GA. I am just now trying to reach over the $60k threshold mark. Obviously this is reasonable for NY. In GA alone, high-end positions can make $80-$95k maximum. The only thing with these kind of positions is (like she is) you often have to sell your entire young adult life for it. You live with them, travel with them, and can hardly have a life of your own for a decade or more. You put your intimate life on hold, potential marriage, potential kids, etc. It’s like she won’t be able to start her life or have kids until she’s almost 40. Of course people do it, but that is a big ask. It sounds nice, but when you factor it into how you’d like to live your life, enjoy your years, and your personal/relational goals you have to really consider it all. She has a boyfriend- would they like to get married? would they like to live together? would they like to have kids? 🤷🏽‍♀️ Also, her saying “with (hopes) to keep me” that sounds like either those kids are bad or she really is considering the big commitment. She says she likes her job, but I wonder if she actually likes it or just likes the money.. she didn’t sound too convinced lol Great video, thanks. This really was inspiring for me nonetheless. I love to see these realistic people within average professions.

Although I do regret that my parents made that decision, I really enjoyed the time she cared for us.

Graham I live in Atlanta and that house would probably be a million! The house we bought was a bit smaller from what I could tell and we paid 625k. Our house was in Alpharetta which is right next to Atlanta which probably factored into getting a better price. You might think that’s a lot but hundreds of people were after that house and it was considered a good deal. To get a house like that min $500,000(even that’s a stretch) to a couple million. It’s not like she’s raising average kids though. She’s raising very very rich kids. The New York Family could be in the hundred to billions of money. The Atlanta one is probably a multimillionaire. Also she is sacrificing her own life for this job, she is being paid well worth it. Teachers in the other hand only have a half day of scheduled work time and all the breaks. I think for what they do they are also being justly paid.
