I earn all my money with graffiti and illustration for 10 years now. i'm 31, 3 kids, beautiful wife, not rich but happy - i know exactly what you are talking about. and it is fu***ing worth it.
Eric B they prob watched alot of his vids where he talks about his principles? Or maybe they just feel like his principles where the same as theirs and then upset when they see the truth? More to the point....why do we even care?
It's like the neighborhood kid who mows lawns for $5 but grows up to own a landscaping business but yet, people want him to still be mowing lawns for $5...
Adrenaline Addiction I love seeing your comments on these videos....your video style is getting amazing bro you're really starting to find yourself on RU-vid
Fantastic video Casey, you've been an inspiration to me lately. I'm a full-time video producer now after my 15 year software development career came to a close at Microsoft when they changed directions. I've been doing pretty well for the last few years and videos like this motivate me to do better and push harder. You're a damn good speaker and motivator man. Thank you for being such a great member of the community despite all of the jealous haters that try to tear you down to justify their own lazy behaviors.
Loved to hear you say this, so many people don't remember we all had to start somewhere...I did lawn mowing, burger flipping, factory work, bar backing, bar tending, bar bouncing, bar managing, corporate Joe, all for someone else, but now, I am 48 and now own my own vending business since 3 years ago...working for myself...you know what now that has allowed me to go after some forgotten dreams and at 48 I am working in post production on my first documentary, and my wife is writing on our second documentary...we are gonna see where it takes us...but the motto I live by is "High Hopes and No Expectations" what happens, happens, I am still happier trying...then not...maybe I will be a Casey Neistat some day...love your vids, watch them all them time...love the info...
That's what he wants you to hear. He left out the part about his brother Van helping him. www.hbo.com/the-neistat-brothers/cast-and-crew/van-neistat/index.html
I would be interested to hear the story of you being a teenage father.. like how did your parents react, how did it effect your own child hood.. and then how did you transition into the successful business man you are today x
Chanel Ambrose He's actually mentioned this in several of his videos. If you haven't, go back through and watch every vlog. I've seen them 2 times now and might rewatch them again. That's how great they are!
I love this video Casey! I grew up in uptown New York, (not the prettiest part.) I had a tough childhood, and spent some years in Juvi. Didn't finish high school because of this. But I got my GED then went to college. Didn't finish that. Wandered lost in life for about 2 years then decided to go into making videos on my passion, calisthenics. I bought a 200$ camera with my last 200$. I lived with my parents and couldnt afford to go out with my friends. I learned and worked as I watched them party and enjoy it. 7 years later I accomplished a bunch and still going. Some of my childhood friends who never had a problem are stuck in 9-5 jobs they hate. The world belongs to the dreamers. Its never too late, keep dreaming, and keep pushing forward. One life to live. Congratulations Casey on all the success and may you triple it and then some.
A teenage boy that gets called to fix computers... that's me. people say I don't have a job but I bust my ass buisness after buisness... opportunity after opportunity.
Sounds like a job to me. A hard one at that for most people. Keep it up and hope you pursue it in school to expand your knowledge and just crush the game haha
Sounds like you are in the same boat as me. Working fixing computers and doing school at the same time. Computers are complex machines, I learn more about them every day the more I fix them, and every day of knowledge gained is one day closer to getting a full fledged IT job, or starting your own computer repair business. Keep at it! I know what it's like.
Holy shit Casey, thank you so fucking much for this video! Excuse me for cursing but this video was so much needed. Recently my friends all came together and basically made fun of all my youtube videos since day 1 (which caused me to private most of them) but how you ended this video really made me think. I know I don't plan on quitting RU-vid but you are so right. Thanks for that Casey.
Wrx_Jesse If you're friends all came together and made fun of your RU-vid videos, are they really your friends? I would keep doing what you want to do, never give up and find some real friends, best friends that will support you no matter what. I have friends but then I have 4 best friends that I see at least twice a week and I know that whatever I or my mates do, we will always have each others back.
Damm... you know you miss Casey when you get here when it was posted '4 seconds ago'. I seriously needed to hear this wisdom tho.. thanks Casey. Lets chase them filmmaking dreams!!!!
Wow, i just did a video about following my dreams.. FINALLY, at 50 years old.. after chasing the education, the career, the house.. love your story about your first video that you got paid $50 for.. so inspiring! thank you for this important video!
Lovin'Life2016 doesn't always work I fell pregnant on the injection and again with the coil in ( with twins) nothing in 100% effective and to be honest all things happen for a reason. My kids were and are miracles! They was all meant to be and I feel extremely blessed to have them. Sometimes life takes you on a different journey to what you plan and you need to make the most of every opportunity. Having kids definitely makes you want to succeed even more so.
Hey Casey! We're working on a video about you, and we used some pics of you that we figured we should get permission for first. Sent an email and some PMs, but got no reply, so now I'm here. Hopefully you'll see this :) Thanks!
You're an inspiration. I've been working since I was 13. Just now going back to school to get my EMT, opened a website and started a RU-vid page. Seeing you be successful gives me the hope that I also can. Thank you!
this is what I need. THANK YOU A BUNCH! One thing I like about you is no matter how difficult your life is, you always shows us that superficial happy of you. Now I start learning to stop complaining and just focus on the greatest part of my life.
Casey, You’ve painted the perfect picture of how aspiring to pursue one’s dreams, when fueled by hard work, can be met with turning those dreams into a reality. I completely agree with your assessment. When people grovel in their own lack of success, they tend to demonize the accomplishments of others - as if this creates some semblance of posture. I see so many RU-vid videos that follow your original vlog format, including videos titled, “How to Casey Neistat a Vlog”. Your influence is unequivocal, and you’ve paved the path for other dreamers. Please continue what you’re doing whether it be related to RU-vid, Beme, CNN, or any other media platform. The world desperately needs positive influencers such as yourself, so despite the negativity - keep at it.
This kind of videos really pushed me where I am now : never so close to achieve one of my dream, wich is launching my own business ! He really helped me to think in a way that, if I want to, I can, just work for it and listen to nobody, don't fit in what society tells you to be
Exactly ! Since I watch Casey's video, I really changed my way to see life, to achieve my goals and my vision on others. I will focus on opening my business, work for that and make it happen. And I prefere try and fail than no try by scare.
What's weird? he's encouraging people to make their dreams real by taking realistic steps. your dreams don't just fall into your lap. when u reach that success, people will try to tear u down for it. sounds like casey to me
You, above all other people seem to really really really know your shit and your so good at articulating what you know and be able to effectively explain your point and illustrate exactly what you mean to make it super easy for anyone to understand. You make so many "real talk" points in your videos that I could not agree with more! It's such a breath of fresh air with so many idiots around polluting the air with the shit that comes out of their mouths.
James McDonald what gloating? So your saying if you've worked your entire life for something your not even aloud to talk about where you are now at. I can guarantee if you were at his position you would be proud of yourself and talk about it. But instead for working towards making your dreams a reality instead you sit there like a fat kid and write comments on this successful mans videos. Grow up
I hate comments like this. He's acknowledging that he busted his ass and became successful as a result of it, and he has every right to be proud of it. People will always try to get you down for being successful, just because they refuse to take the time to understand what it took to achieve that success. That's on them, I'm gonna take pride in my achievements and Casey's clearly doing the same.
Lesley Burt well that's your opinion and you're entitled to it. I just think it's a little tacky. As I stated he has a very good point and as a fan of his I wish he would not through that last part in there.
If that's what you got from this, then you're projecting. He's not saying anything about YOU. If that's what YOU got from this, YOU think you're a loser. No one is saying anything about you.
This is why I love you. I watched you even before the daily blogs, way long before the daily blogs. It absolutely made my day when you posted your first daily blog, and every day after I took every word of inspiration because it helps me to remember my dreams when reality keeps beating me down. When you stopped, I completely related and understood that too. Everyone that criticizes someone else's hard work has then too much time on their hands and needs to be doing their own hard work.
yes best video ever, thank god you made this so all your subs now understand how dreams and reality work, whew, they were lost until you explained it all. Now i can make my dreams come true and look down on everyone else like you. I feel better all ready.
i work 5 days a week 10-12 hour shifts and for what? a fuckin piece of paper because the system said so. this isn't how i want to live my life but i have too. sad.
I LOVE IT CASEY. I needed to hear this. I wrote a book. Got it published (sent you a copy). Realized part of my dream. Is it flying off the shelves? NO. But I did it and I feel good about that. Thank you.
WELL SAID! i can't believe people commenting and saying stupid shit like "so your dream was to work for CNN" - these people have no dreams, no goals, and will get no where in life. They are probably still in their parents basement avoiding any opportunity being thrown at them for this reason. Hey man this was a great accomplishment for you and we as a RU-vid community are so damn proud of you. Keep on growing!
Much respect to Casey, but it's easy to say what he did after the fact. For every Casey, there are tens of thousands of people, if not more, who work just as hard as he does, if not harder throughout their lifetime trying to convert their dreams into reality and never fulfilling them. People underestimate luck and being in the right place at the right time, what if Casey didn't have an older brother like Van, who was also into making movies and introduced Casey to Tom Sachs and help get The Neistat Brothers sold to HBO.
cjseliga76 Dude, I was going to say the same thing. This guy was in the right place at the right time. Matter of fact he wasn't even in the country when Van sealed the deal with HBO. He was on a beach in Belize. He also loves to talk about "his" studio... even though Van and another person were in on the design and contruction. I hate when he gets preachy like this. Nurses, loggers, migrant workers, and firefighters work hard, not a middle age, man child running around on a skateboard making "movies".
Of course you don't get by on luck alone, unless you win the PowerBall or Mega Millions! But very successful people, like Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Warren Buffet, etc. all admit that there was some luck involved with where they got to in life. My point was you could work just as hard, if not harder than Casey, and still never get to his level of success if you don't have some random event/situations occur, i.e. Casey's older brother Van.
It's not just hard work and luck. It's hard work and TALENT. You can work your ass off to be successful, but if you just don't have enough talent and/or creativity, you probably won't be successful. Some people try too hard to succeed at the wrong things. Just my humble opinion.
ElektrobanK Totally man. There are worst cases of people not doing shit and get a whole lot of money. People that just inherited from their parents, f.e.
he didn't get it easily!! the time and effort of being one of the original vloggers and the time that he spent away from his family and being creative and coming up with ideas to entertain all of us, its hard! people you need to understand that!
Ben Bega technically, he is not signed to CNN. His company was bought by CNN but they still give hime complete freedom with his company. A filmmaker's dream. I think we can all agree, however, that it is best when an entertainer does not advocate for either party or any news channels.
People will always hate on Casey lol. And it's for the exact reasons he brought up in this video. It's weird to me that people have so much trouble congratulating others in their successes, it's almost always the opposite.
Casey NEEDS to make a podcast , I like the way he words things and switches your perspective to a new view and educates you and inspires you...i would definitely be a daily listener of his podcast.
idk, Casey's saying don't care about what haters say, but it's clear it's gotten to him. I really like Casey and his videos. His decision to leave vlogging for CNN in no way made me think any less of him, but that is, without question, selling out. The sad thing is that people think selling out is bad. I think a lot of people, mostly younger viewers, thought that Casey's goal was something different than what it was. Those of us above the teenage years know that if you can make more money, and still do what you want to do, then it's not really selling out, it's just smart business. Casey's just a guy with a family, and desires. Of course he wants more money, everyone does. I have faith that anything Casey agreed to, included him doing what he wanted, and saying what he wanted. If CNN wants to give him more money and resources to do that, that good job Casey! If CNN want him to say what they want him to say, exactly how they want him to say it, then he made a mistake, but if I know anything about Casey, he wouldn't do that. So yes, he took a contract for a mainstream company which is selling out, but that's not a bad thing if it leads to more/better content for us, and more/consistent money for him. As he said, people who call other people sellouts (in a bad way), are just people who wished they had the opportunity to do so themselves.
That's the thing is I don't think they are. Casey was already in an amazing spot something most people will never achieve. But no one cared it wasn't until he started working with CNN that people cared it's got nothing to do with His success it's all about who he's decided to work with. And never formally admit tp working with
No, they're jealous, Shogun. I don't like CNN, either, hell I don't like ANY news outlets, but if that's what his dream was and he's getting to do what he wanted to do to make money, good for him! What I'd like to know is, why are the people who are sooooooo upset with him still coming around? If you straight up disagree with what he's doing, you'd just stop watching and supporting him. But no, the jealousy of it comes into play and everyone has to give their 2 cents worth as if he's going to listen to any of ya. Your words mean nothing to someone who's already made it. If I were him, I'd call y'all a bunch of jealous haters, too. We all know that when you start to get haters and people talking shit, you've made it. =)
Beanis I've been watching Casey since waay before his vlogs I like his content always have. So i'm not around because i'm a hater trying to get my 2 cents in. But you're right he probalbly won't rad any of these. But it's worth a shot right? takes no effort on my part. So why not i'm just sitting here reading code anyway
