Former mechanical engineer for Milwaukee Tool (I designed levels at empire and Milwaukee) here. Milwaukee will always be slightly more expensive than their competitors (mainly focusing on dewalt and makita). They generally focus on a couple specs(speed, power, weight, ergonomics etc) and just focus on beating the benchmark competitors (at just about any cost) and they market the ever living shit out of those specs. Their margins are large, but they do a TON of research in the field to determine exactly what the customers want and how to fill the customers needs (even the ones that the customers don't know they need). Even as an employee, I'd look at some of the pricing of specialty tools and think "holy shit, that seems steep". People pay it because they're on the m18 platform and because it'll likely be reliable and most of the time they work pretty damn well. Not sure if this was helpful, but it's definitely a reality in the office.

This doesn’t seem like honest talk it seems like corporate vomit. I have all Milwaukee product also but that is mainly because of batteries. You guys start doing this on most of your tools and watch the crowd reinvest and move on. Especially if they are similar in performance and the price difference is not realistic for most guys and contractors looking for the best tool at the best price.
@RicardoSanchez-xy5kp
@RicardoSanchez-xy5kp Год назад
Especially because Milwaukee isn’t making the risk they are trying to only improve on the competition. Flex is coming up the ladder and causing a lot of commotion. When a company sits back and plays zone defense the competition takes the ground given. Before you know it, the game is tied. We expect better!
@brettleisy356

My brother was a huge Milwaukee fan, but he even started to move away from the product shortly before his passing. the $$$ wasn't equivalent to the value he could get elsewhere. 3% speed, 5% power, 7% weight, questionably more ergonomic is not worth a 25% to 100% markup.

I don’t understand what everyone is talking about. On HOMEDEPOT dewalt is selling the flexvolt track saw for 818$ with two batteries and a 59 inch track. Milwaukee if you buy the kit is 550$. Add 100 for the same size track 650$. Add 160$ for another 6ah battery it literally becomes the same price I don’t see the big deal. I also prefer not getting a track because I can choose which track I really want first or if I want them all. I just don’t understand everyone saying it more expensive when dewalts selling for the same price and it’s a older tool

I don't think the pricing is too much out of line from what I expected from them. The ala cart track does make sense as you can choose the track you want to start with. The kit includes the Packout box which by itself is $120. The Dewalt Flexvolt with T-Stack is $620 with 59" track. The Milwaukee kit at $549 plus a 55" track at $96 puts you at $645, not much more than Dewalt. I would agree with the remote vacuum controls. They just released new vacuums, there is no reason why they shouldn't have had at least the option to add a wireless control module. Their new Bluetooth remote control thing only works with corded vacuums, kind of a punt so they can have a "me too" product.

Spot on - it isn’t “out of line pricing” at all - 5 yr warranty has always made them “more” -- the BTooth thing could be a actual road block due to patent design, i am sure they will have some kind of after market thing to either recommend or add on…. Those of us who want one are gonna jump on it, and price be damned, I don’t care about tracks being extra at all, especially when it works with the Makita brand track - for those thinking they have to have a track saw and don’t want to spend the money SERIOUSLY look at the TrueTrac - the track is a beast of pure beefy ass aluminum specially designed and USA MILLED! - Not Made in China! - and a base plate for different saws so you have flexibility on the saw you want to use…oh and it has router sleds etc.. anyway, Milwaukee has priced these more than competitively in my opinion…now they just need a Packout attachment that will allow carrying the track on a Packout stack! - Jake are you seeing this?
@NGinuity
@NGinuity 2 года назад
Yep, agree with you on that tracksaw, it's just Vince not knowing anything he's talking about and just complaining. I paid 500 for the Makita kit without the track and a 55" track was another 100 dollars, so 600 out the door. Another 50 bucks more for the same in Milwaukee is not a deal breaker and it's right smack in the middle of Makita and Festool so....yeah, mountain out of a molehil. I don't think it's out of the question to bring my track saw in line with both my battery and storage systems, in fact, it's well under what I'd expect for that.

I agree with several of your points, especially when it comes to dust extraction. I too have some concerns. I was super excited for this tracksaw and have been waiting several years since it was leaked to purchase one, but now i'm not sure which brand and model i'm going to go with. However, i don't know why people are saying that the price is not in line with brands like Makita because the Makita 36V kit is roughly the same price and that's after it's been out for awhile and the price has dropped. The 40V Makita kit is actually more than the Milwaukee @ $599. I am waiting to see how this compares to the Makita and Festool models. The festool is $799 though, which is $154 more than the Milwaukee w/ track and some people love Festool, but i think they are somewhat overhyped and several toolguys on YT who own the Makita and the Festool said they actually liked the Makita better, so we'll see i guess.

Evening. One note that may be overlooked here. I work for a major manufacturer, another household name. Milwaukee waiting to develop something is fine but what may have bit them is something that has bitten us all. The cost of every single component is the highest it’s ever been. Whatever little knob or bolt you can imagine. Many companies didn’t foresee the last two years and no matter what your political beliefs or medical beliefs, the fact of the matter is the combination of Covid and our current administration has been an absolute wrecking ball on manufacturing. Building and releasing any product right now will force said product to the top of the cost scale.
@Fictitious_Character
@Fictitious_Character 2 года назад
Other brands do similar offering bundles, Makita as example has bare tool = x, tool with batts/charger = x, but they also offer a tool/batts/charger/track kit. I imagine as it gets closer for the common folk purchases they will have a track kit option. Saw look pretty good. Seems the lack of Bluetooth is foretelling to how much consideration Milwaukee is giving to coming out with a nice yet competitively performing dust extractor. When Milwaukee hyped the release of the multiple variations shop vacs I was critical that they didn't have a HEPA extractor variation in the mix.

I don’t even think they are giving Makita quality. Makitas cordless tracksaws have the option to add Bluetooth and their vacuums are osha compliant and also allow for Bluetooth. They just tacked Milwaukee on the ryobi track saw, but even ryobi gives you a track. I was looking forward to this track saw cause I don’t have the space right now for a table saw, but my ope is ryobi right now so might have to get their tracksaw till the gen 2 comes out. At least I will have the tracks at that point.
@boivin01

I’d be interested to see a side by side of the ryobi/Kreg/Milwaukee/festool. I fear that the price is too high, and has placed them too near the festool mark, and if they didn’t get to festool performance.. what’s the point of saving a relatively small percentage? If it doesn’t provide a big step up from a ryobi/Kreg level, why spend the extra amount? It just feels oddly situated Devils advocate: festool does have a track saw kit without a track.

Makita is more of a leader in saws and have a proven offering. Festool is the same. Most shops that are going to pay for Milwaukee across the board already have the money to buy from different platforms if they want to. Most do.

I'm a DIY guy. When I first started in the 90s, I got Craftsman; because I watched my dad and grandfather return broken ratchets and tools for replacements, no questions asked. When I bought my first power tools, I drooled over Milwaukee. Everyone who doesn't work in trades believes the Milwaukee hype. They're leveraging it. They don't compete with Ryobi; they're the Nike of tools - they position themselves as the cheap alternative to festool etc instead.

Bosch also offers the pieces to let you build up the track saw setup you want. I did buy a deal that got me a two piece track kit and a bonus battery with the saw + battery in a Systainer. But Bosch does offer several HEPA dust extractors. I wouldn't compare against Dewalt if the saw is any good, their track saw tested almost dead last against Festool, Bosch, Mafell, and Bosch. The investment isn't too different from Makita in my opinion.

Okay so this was about $100 more than the Makita that I bought two years ago once you buy the short track that Makita included. Everything else is about the same, although performance might be different. That doesn't seem that far out of line Vince, especially if they see their saw as a better product than Makita's (riving knife for example) and considering inflation in the last two years. If I could swap them out and pay the difference, I would in a heartbeat. As it is, I'll probably buy the bare tool as I have plenty of red batteries and the Makita tracks and clamps.

The biggest problem with the track saw isn’t the high price or the lack of equipment available as a bundle. It’s the fact that they can’t make a decent dust extractor that has Bluetooth functionality!! This btw is coming from a massive Milwaukee fan. I own almost solely Milwaukee tools for carpentry and building and love them but I won’t be changing my 36v Makita track saw or dust extractor anytime soon. Hint hint Milwaukee Just look at the Festool design, a Bluetooth button for the hose is revolutionary and not a difficult piece of engineering by any stretch. Pull you socks up Milwaukee your slacking!!

I agree with you on one hand. I’ve been waiting, and seemingly waiting some more for it. I have tons of Milwaukee tools - have for 25 years. Corded and now cordless. I’m disappointed by their dust extractors - these things are a necessity today and as an engineer they aren’t overly complex to incorporate the features of user friendliness. Now on the other hand I think Milwaukee quest to make a great product is whole heartily there. But they had the absolute worst timing ever. This is already a higher end tool for a higher end user. I get the idea of the kit and pick your track - it’s more ala cart type consumerism which for a high end user makes sense. But with cost and availability of manufacturing items it’s hell - especially from overseas and sourcing components globally. Also to pull together a dust extractor and the track saw and the other parts of this type of line in this segment today given the manufacturer issues would have been a miracle. Moreover they are probably testing the waters for their own sake. Granted Milwaukee is a huge name in power tools - the king to be honest. But along with that all their competitors are looking for them to fail. I’d assume they would rather the tool work well and people complain about the price, then the other way around. If sales are strong you’ll see the price decline over time.

I undercut and cut out vision glass in $1000,00 per core mahogany/maple/oak/teak 9' doors so a track saw is appealing. I don't think boss would pay $700.00 for something we have been doing for $50.00 .we simply clamp a straight edge for windows and on horses most of us can free hand undercut inches off . I do believe a track saw may be faster but easily doubt it's accuracy on a 13/4" thick door for a through and through cut. The trim we use on windows buts flush with cut on door face so our cuts must be precise (no putty). Saw a review of the saw and it is a professional grade product. I felt $399 bare wasn’t bad when the saw is competitive with Festool, the industry leader. The Milwaukee will work on Festool tracks so some of their research was to make this saw compatible with competitors parts that the user may already have. How are the tracks for this saw? Did you guys try them out and are they well made? The Milwaukee has track adjustment knobs (2) to keep alignment tight and straight and a switch to increase angle past 45 and below 0. Good dust collection and power through dense woods so you don’t slow down. If the tracks are flimsy, i’d go for Festool tracks. The pack out box is really big. Wish they had smaller container. The price for kit isn’t bad. It’s not a DIY saw. Good review.

I bought Skilsaw's cordless worm drive saw and intend to attach it to an aftermarket track and turn it into a track saw. It is already a badass saw, I can only imagine what it will be like when I get it all together.

Point well taken and I agree with you. It seems there over priced with just the saw and no track, why would you want to pay more? They to rethink there marketing on this product if there going to be competitive.

Doesn’t it seem like Milwaukee prices their tools on the high side so they can then offer all of those killer deals they have for Black Friday, Fathers Day etc? Im sure this drops in October at those prices but they will have a Black Friday deal a month later. As far as the track go couldn’t they have them expandable? Some tracks come in like 2 and 4 foot pieces and you can connect as many as you need together. Are expandable tracks not as good?

Reading these comments is pretty hilarious. You’ve got quite the following. When you were excited about it and thought the price point was good everyone was on board with you now you’ve done a 180 and everyone’s still on board with you😂. I still don’t have an opinion because you don’t know what you don’t know. until this saw is put through its paces you can’t really make an informed opinion or buying decision. We will see if it’s worth the total package cost with the tracks. They really screwed up not having Bluetooth connectivity with the dust extraction I’ve been complaining about that for a while now with some of there other offerings.

I thought your rant was going to be on product performance not selling price. Not having any clue when Milwaukee was coming out with a track saw I waited as long as I could and bought the Makita cordless. Makita does not come with a riving knife which I think would be nice. Since Im all in Milwaukee I will be purchasing this track saw and selling the Makita or I may just keep it in the shop (I haven't built yet LOL) The tracks are interchangeable so I only need the saw and the longer track. I have a zillion batteries so Im good to go.

So the cordless Festool Kit with a 55" track is $799, Dewalt Flexvolt Kit with 54" track is $659, Makita with a 55" rail is $599. None of those kit's come with clamps or mending bars either. So the Milwaukee kit is $549+$96 for a 55" track making it $645 which is right inline with every other offering minus Makita. Not saying Milwaukee couldn't have been the first ones to offer clamps or other accessories with their kit, but none of their competitors are either and the price point is right there with the others. Ryobi would be a great saw for someone who doesn't need to use the track saw everyday, but it doesn't currently have any track offerings besides the one that comes with the kit.
@christianness8983
@christianness8983 2 года назад
It is actually priced competitively. The prices you showed from the screenshot weren't an apples to apples comparison; especially considering Makita also does not include a track with their kits. I do however agree that the price is dangerously close to Festool pricing and it would make sense for someone to buy a corded Festool for $700 in a similar setup and then they'd be able to use dust extraction because you don't need bluetooth, you just need to plug the cord in the dust extractor and switch it to auto mode.

I’m with you, why is Milwaukee selling the saw only , I’m not sure wear the Milwaukee sits in the market, have the Mafell, I think the Milwaukee is the same price as the makita XGT 40 volt, I would rather have the makita just because makita has had a track saw for a long time.
@jorgepallares7149
@jorgepallares7149 2 года назад
I feel the price is about right it does come with packout. I definitely wish Milwaukee would have included at least the smallest 39in track ,2 batteries 2 5.0 or 2 6.0 & a dual rapid would be nice to have both batteries charged quickly. At least for for Makitas track saw they have different price offerings that improve with more $$. Even their kit doesn't include track ,clamps or connectors . Makita kit no track $499 I think milwaukee is powerful enough w/ 1 battery but they could have changed the game including track since they were last to come out with it.

I have the festool corded version which I like it , now I am on the market for cordless one and I am on the red platform as well as the yellow , the question here is will the price justify for me to go with Milwaukee? If there is a difference of 200 bucks I will not hesitant to move on to higher brands as festool since their tools are tried and tested , Milwaukee has to approach this subject very carefully since they weren't the ones who invented the wheel

Disappointment understood. They have a semi-captive customer base, the saw will sell. Some of us have battery adapted the best tool we chose to our battery platform of choice, others have multiple battery platforms, I'm mixed Milwaukee and Makita, with one Dewalt 779 mitre saw that's only used where my M18 Milwaukee 7-1/4 mitre saw is too small, which has turned out to be a very rare occurrence. Makita needs to bring out an AWS (Bluetooth) battery-powered table saw, soon, before I pull the trigger on a Milwaukee. I'm mostly happy with every Milwaukee and Makita tool I own.

Vince I think what you are saying is probably valid, but to me it highlights how bad it is for us poor Bosch users. When the GKT 18V-52 came out it turned out to be 140 mm (5.5 inch) blade instead of the industry standard 165 mm (6.5 inch) (Why Bosch? Why?), no splinter guard, no riving knife (not 100% necessary but would be nice), no depth micro adjustment, no scoring feature and while the kit did come in a Bosch L-Boxx 3, it did not come with a track. This is after Bosch have had the GKT-55 for years (and the rest of the industry bench-marked), so they knew what worked and what was need to be improved for their next generation track saw, they just failed to deliver. To be fair I think not having the track as part of the kit is OK, people might be upgrading from a previous track saw and so not need to buy another track, but you could offer a starter discount: buy the tool kit and at least 1 track, get 10% of the tracks.

My two cents. This is a big miss, why only one battery. Milwaukee is pushing the 8-12ah batts in lieu of dual battery setups. Weight is about the same but battery cost is less with two 5ah. Festool, makita and others have dual batt track saws and have great results. IHO festool has a better warranty and a long history with trac saws for almost the same starting price.

A few takeaways here, I also can’t figure out why it’s taken so long. They are using the same tracks as festool uses, the design is almost identical. The pricing is really close to festool which is not good for them. I can’t see this being a well received product as most people who was a tracksaw allready have one by now. One more point the 5 year warranty is LIMITED, which essentially means they won’t fix squat and if they do it will take 6 months+. Been there done that. With festool you get a 3 year warranty which includes wear and tear, and you get a 1 day turnaround on any tool… honestly for an extra 100$ im buying the festool over the Milwaukee

You’re answer is that they are competing against Festool. Festool has been the king of track saws and if Milwaukee wants to compete in that track saw segment then go after the throne. As someone who mainly buys Milwaukee and Festool tools, I’m glad they are finally going to offer a track saw. I have no problem buying the tracks separate, as I’m use to it with Festool. As price point for bare saw that’s a lot cheaper then Festool. I have plenty of batteries so I don’t need kit. Just need a bare saw, a 55” track (to start) and the clamps. Those three items would be cheaper then the bare Festool saw!

Dos Milwaukee or Dewalt have a way to contact them with ideas or complaints? I don't know of one and if they really don't, what's that say about them? I'd think all their customers would have good ideas about what's needed and not.
@ruelsmith

Fair point about the price, but the $549 includes a Packout case. That's worth, at least, $100 over the price of the tool. Makita, for $599 gives you a 55" track, two batteries, dual battery charger, and two sustainer-like Makpac cases. So, honestly, a 55" track for another $100 puts it $50 more expensive, but a lot more convenient with everything in a single Packout case. Personally, I see them knocking off $50 around Christmas for it or packaging it with a 55" track and $50 off for a Home Depot Special Buy deal.
