I love how in the early days youtubers would rip Makita a new one for the charger being loud because of the fans in them. Now nearly everyone is starting to put fans in their chargers and everyone is all of a sudden ok with it. Makita once again quietly leading the way (let's not think about their nails guns shall we)

Most brands have had fans in their chargers for ages. It's just Milwaukee and maybe Bosch that didn't. Even then, that's not totally true. Milwaukee had a fan in their older super charger(the really big M18/M12 charger from 2019 or 2020), and they've had fans in the MX Fuel chargers all along.

@@user-ge4dx8bh4gas a Milwaukee user since 2005, Milwaukee should focus on battery durability. They’ve improved from first introduction of the v28 platform, but there’s still needed improvements in m12 and m18 battery tech. Though I’m guessing most manufacturers have or have had issues with batteries crapping the bed sooner than they should.

I prefer the slower charging because the batteries last longer. I have so many batteries I don't worry about needing a charged battery. The ones I don't use often I store at half charge so they don't degrade as fast. I also try to rotate my batteries so I don't use just 1 or 2.

Your home power supply can handle more than 18 amps charging at those voltages. Way more. It could do 100 amps or more. The limitation would be with the cells. As for the fans, those are purely to cool the internal components of the charger which get extremely hot.
@konaguzzi1
@konaguzzi1 2 месяца назад
if the charger had no loss in theory you could push 120amps output so my guess is you would probably be pretty close with your 100amps. (I was hoping to find someone with a bit more of a clue than the reviewer)

I haven't seen a plain Jane xc 6.0 here in Canada for a long time. I forgot they even made them. I just checked the Home Depot site and they still list the xc 6.0 but with a "Out of Stock Online. Not Sold in Stores". On a side note, also saw the M12 xc 6.0 going for $98 instead of $168 so I put one in the cart. Glad I watched this video today.. Thanks dude.

Nice overview of charging milwaukee batteries on the new charger. 1. I think maybe a slight difference of the charging time of the 12 Ah milwaukee battery between real time charging and spec sheet data, could be unblanced cells. There are many videos of problems with unbalanced cells in half of my 12 Ah batteries, especially the older ones. DIY addictir korean channel does a nice video of how to balance charge them with a nifty external balancing system. I have tried other youtube methods with balancing rows of cells in my battery cells every few charges, using a dc power supply to trickle charge the unbalanced cells to match the nominal equal voltage to the other cells. That often solves the 3 bars charging limit of many batteries. Unblancing iccurs mire and more as the batteries are used more and more. The unbalancing increases over time. Reblancing makes the batteries last much longer, but the milwaukee batteries and bms do a poor job of rebalancing, and I think the new charger is no different. 2. Interestingly in your video I can see a 5 pin charging port on the new charger. That is potentially amazing, because it means this charger potentially support charging and discharging on the same port, which potentially means this charger could be used for both charging the batteries, but als used to discharge the battery which means it could function as a battery bank. So this device in the current or futire itteration could be used as a portable battery bank or power station. If milwaukee is smart it could fither develop this to support solar charging with a solar charging port. With 5bpins it would be nice if we could charge and discharge the batteries simultaneously. Over 400 wh at 18 or 36 Volts at 10 or 20 amps has some interesting potential when 2 12ah batteries can be combined in parallel or series on these chargers!😊

Makita has an 18V 12A carger for the Japanese market only, the DC18RF. The regular Makita 40V charger could theoretically charge the 18V Makita batteries at 12A too through the adapter.

I’m thinking that the contacts and charger wiring act as a heat sink to pull heat from the batteries. The “battery” fan can cool these and the heat will travel from the battery due to entropy.

2 x 18A x 18V is only about 750W, allow a little more for PSU inefficiency and any mains power outlet ought to be able to handle it (under 4A at 230V)

I don't get why they do the sequential super-charge thing. The US 120v model is rated at 4 amps input, which should not be a problem unless the circuit is otherwise heavily loaded. The kiwi version should be like 2-3 amps I would guess. Makita dual rapid 40v charger is rated at more amps I'm pretty sure--but they are basically 2 single units in a bigger case.

FAST Charge VS S L O W Charge; this will be debated ad nauseam. Having said that, almost everyone will have a shop fan, or smaller fan, or battery fan or something similar. Even if I am using a ‘fast charger’ with a fan cooling system, or regular charger, I will have a small fan blowing across the charger and battery, during charging, and it MAKES a difference. I cannot tell You if this will prolong the life of the battery, but I CAN TELL You it lowers the temps quite a bit. Yes, I have tested this quite extensively, using a high quality IR gun. Try it yourself! I would wager it does help, as anytime you can keep the heat down in a battery, it is beneficial. Peace!

Am I right in thinking the super charger isn't anything special in comparison to Makita's chargers? 65 mins to do 12ah is comparable with 50mins to do a 5ah XGT battery. It slightly beats out the charging of a BL1850 but that doesn't have special cells in it like the Milwaukee batteries do.

interesting, looks like milwaukee discovered airflow through a solid barrier, maybe they should get a nobel prize for that 😎 joking aside, it looks that it is pushing more than 12A when rapid charging one forge pack, it charges in less than half an hour, and if you take a CC portion of charge cycle into account it has to be around 18A.
