3M Roloc 2" Disc Pad Assembly: amzn.to/2OFzBIE
3M Roloc Bristle Disc Grade - 120: amzn.to/2OInb2P
3M 01397 Green Corps Roloc Green Disc: amzn.to/2B2N3hR
Milwaukee Tool has been working on industry-specific tools for some time. Mechanics and Metal Fabricators get a great tool with the new Milwaukee M12 FUEL 1/4" Right Angle Die Grinder. To my knowledge, this is the first cordless right angle die grinder. There have been M12 sanders and polishers that can be fitted with 3M Roloc pads, but never one with the versatility of a die grinder.
Milwaukee Tool always wants to properly compete with the tools that Mechanics are using, so they worked to provide more power than cordless models. Many technicians will tell us that air is free in the shop and they have little benefit in buying battery-powered tools. In this case, users get more power in a size professional service mechanics demand. Milwaukee Tool rates this right angle die grinder at up to 0.3 HP and tells us most pneumatic die grinders this would compare to are .25 HP.
Another benefit to going battery power is the ability to use the 4-Mode RPM control and variable speed trigger to know what the max RPM will be. This allows for a larger range of attachments that might have lower RPM ratings., and the mobility to fit in the tightest spaces.
This is a FUEL tool so it features the Milwaukee POWERSTATE Brushless Motor and
REDLINK PLUS Intelligence hardware and software to keep the tool safe and at its peak performance.

I chuck this up ru-vid.comUgkxmwiwyX3ADeryrwvcsiwLeKxme6QNQmGL with some carbide bits and use it almost exclusively for grinding out bad welds.It's quite large in size, but having the handle located right near the tip gives you a lot of control.I'm mostly impressed with how remarkably quiet it is. That alone is enough of a reason to switch from the air-powered alternatives.Tip: It's easy to get a carbide bit to walk/chatter and then break. You can reduce your chances of that happening if you are firm and steady with your material removal. It helps to grab it with a second hand right at the BLACK handle near the bit.

Just ordered mine and a 3/8 m12 ratchet. Milwaukee is on their game with the power tools. My m18 high torque 1/2 impact will put the newest snap on guns to shame and has put a new Matco 1/2 pneumatic to shame also. Thing blows my mind. The mid torque 3/8 is a beast also .

Damn, Milwaukee is killing the power tool market. I have a ton of dewalt cordless tools but not because I’m particular to one brand over another, it just ended up that way. The problem is once your in deep with batteries and tools, switching over to another brand is EXPENSIVE. One day when I have $2500 to drop, I’m switching toMilwaukee

That is a nice tool, but a big price tag for such. I would love the mobility of not being tied to an air line since I already have a good selection of m12 tooling. $369.99 (CAD) for tool only puts it out of reach for most hobby users unfortunately, when a good IR right angle air can be had for $99.

Found a badass deal on this, but I’m debating on getting it. $179 for the grinder, 2.0 battery, 4.0 battery, and charger, and bag. Hell of a deal, just debating on if I’ll use it enough. I do have straight and angle pneumatic grinders, but this could be very useful.

My concern is the ability for a 2" roloc to get all the way into a corner. A pneumatic has the motor in the body and a right angle gear drive that puts the chuck at the front edge of the tool.. This one gets rid of that by putting the motor in the head. It saves power and cost but the head apears to be as big as a 2" roloc. I have been cleaning up the drawers of a tool cabinet. Will this tool put a 2" roloc flat against the inside of the drawer sides and back, like an air tool? I could go to a 3" roloc. That fat head concerns me as a 100% replacement for an air grinder. I have been waiting a long time and this is currently the only one out there, except for a very expensive corded German model.. My question is whether the chuck center is less than 1" from the front of the tool? Thank you very much for checking.

These are total junk, unfortunately. Why? Because they overheat after about 3 minutes of light use. Check out the real reviews. Everything else is perfect about it. I'm returning mine today. I was removing some paper gasket at the lowest speed, not pushing at all in 60 degree weather, and not covering vents. So sad milwaukee doesn't test their equipment. The straight grinder and the 3" cutoff tool have the same problem.

I'm getting upset with milwaukee and I dont know why I'm not seeing more complaints... there tools are cutting out power way to early I dont know if it is a battery cut out or the tools themselves but my drill cuts out on anything over 1/2" cant use a paddle bit or a hole saw to drill through a 2x4 without resetting the trigger 3 or 4 times do to it cutting out I assume from some kind of protection circuit then both my right angle and strait die grinders cut out even before touching my tool to the material im trying to use it on it makes the tools worthless. My dewalt I can push through a 2x4 with a 2 1/2" hole saw or paddle bits no problem. yes milwaukee will last longer probably because they are limited and turn off as soon as the tool needs to put out any torque. total pos now and lost me and every contractor I've demostrated this to. They make good looking but worthless junk these days

The one concern I have as a replacement for pneumatic die grinder is the size of the motor head. It appears to stick out further than a 2 inch roloc. For a burr or stone the discrepancy is even more extreme. A pneumatic has the air motor in the handle and uses a rt. angle or 120 degree gear drive to turn the collet. That makes the head very small and it will get into places that this one will not. For example, I am sanding rust from the inside of some tool cabinet drawers that I am restoring. To do the inside of the drawer sides, I would have to use a 3 roloc. With a 2 inch the tool would hit the draw bottom before the disc. I am sure there must be other situations where the big bulky head will prevent it from replacing an air grinder.

So I recently got one of these, and love it.... Buuuut I also found out that die grinders really is not a thing in my part of the world. They are basically only used by car painters, making them and all their accessories very hard to find, and very expensive when you do find them. What complicates it even more is "die grinder" doesnt even have a name here, its litteraly referred to as a general grinding device so when you search for it, you get EVERYTHING from angle grinders to belt sanders. But it doesnt end there, since we use metric here i get a 6mm collet instead of a 1/4 inch one. 1/4" is equal to 6,35mm and that difference is enough that US made stuff cannot properly fit in it without wobbling like crazy. Not exactly what I want from a cutoff disk that spins at 25 000 rpm, so then buying off the web kinda goes out the window too. So I guess my 2 options are to either sell it, or buy a 1/4" collet which is $60 with shipping and tax... and pray it fits?

I found myself rebuilding a Cummins ISX CM-871... I needed a die grinder to remove several gallons of RTV before I in frame it, no gaskets, just RTV... I bought both the straight and angle Milwaukee units. The straight grinder was nice getting in behind the front structure of the motor where the angle die grinder would not work. As of now, I have been using the 3M Roloc Bristle Discs to remove the RTV from the block. I have to say, these die grinders, are the BOMB! Do not put pressure on these like you would with an air grinder, they will shut down, let the tool do the work. I wish I would have bought these years ago. If you find yourself using a die grinder, I would get both if you are doing engine work, or need to get into odd spaces. And if possible, stick with the 3M Roloc heads and tools, the Chinese stuff is hit and miss at best. As far as run time, and lack of a compressor for a proper die grinder, the batteries are inexpensive, I use the Amazon Chinesium knockoffs, you can get a dozen of them for what you would pay for a couple of Milwaukee batteries. Up to 9 volts, no issues. Beats the minute or two I would get with a 20 gallon compressor.

I’ve been wanting and needing a die grinder but just couldn’t bring myself to spend the $250 that Milwaukee was charging for it. But now with patience it’s on sale for $149 with a battery. I’m definitely buying that joker today will be at my house tomorrow 8/2/22. Man I can’t wait Thanks a lot for your review you always give great unbiased reviews and I respect your options a lot.

It’s great for a mechanic that does breaks to clean all the parts like behind the rotors and the calipers

I’m a millwright that does some heavy metal fabrication in stainless steel. I used this but to me it’s too slow to do I any real world fabrication. Long run time and torque is needed so it’s back to either pneumatic or electric die grinders. I did find a really good use and it’s to clean weld burns on stainless steel with a wire wheel.

I just cant imagine the battery lasting long. I really like their 12 volt tools but you always have to have multiple batteries on hand because they die so quickly. Stepping up to the 4.0 batteries are a must .

What's the run time on a 2.0 battery?
@WorkshopAddict
@WorkshopAddict 5 лет назад
You could remove the gaskets from 5 intakes on one charge without issue. With light duty work, well over 40 mins. Different if you are pushing it, but die grinders are not meant to be run like that.

How does compare to a pneumatic Dotco or Ingersoll-rand with a rotary burr cutting shitty MIG welds?

I have been looking for a corded version of this tool. I can't justify buying a large compressor just for one tool. This battery one is the only other option.
