Each a master in their own craft the 4 of them are the best at what they do and yo have them all in one band is phenomenal they are a herd of goats and all good looking boys
Try their song Dazed and Confused live at Madison Square Garden 1973. You have to do the 28:57 version. You thought twelve minutes went fast? Try this. It's the best Zeppelin video on line.
Great reaction!!! There's a LOT of live stuff that kills as good as this. Achilles Last Stand from Knebworth is off the chain, and I Can't Quit You Baby at the RAH is a monster. They also have a soundtrack movie The Song Remains the Same with insane performances. There are many, many gems on their records too.
Hi Sue... u picked one helluva song as your 1st Zeppelin reaction - most bands could pack up and go home after recording/performing a song like this, but for Zeppelin, it's just the beginning of a long and fabulous journey.
Their studio performances are amazing, but their lives are mind blowing, solos are longer & better & Plant will add to the lyrics. You can hear & see the passion they put into the songs, I love seeing the lives, after decades of only studio versions. All of the lives from Madison Square Gardens are really great, their movie The Song Remains The Same, was filmed over the 3 nights. Older albums you need Earl’s Court or Knebworth, Knebworth in (1979) was two nights & one night was over 200,000 people. Now those 2 concerts had other bands playing, but Zeppelin still played at least 3 hours, which they always played 3 to 4 hours straight. So many of their really great songs weren’t played on the radio, or very rarely, which they really should have been. It’s hard to find a bad song among all their songs, maybe 1 or 2 won’t be your favorite, but not one to hate. You also can watch the movie on RU-vid, you can buy rent or watch free with short ads, I’ve watched it twice recently. I saw it in the theater decades ago when it came out, well worth watching. Thanks for your reaction, & yes it’s mind blowing just how amazing they are.
As I said all of MSG (1973) live are great, but one of my favorite lives from there is, Since I’ve Been Loving You. A great Bluesy Rock, you can see & feel their soulful passion, & great solo from Page. Stairway To Heaven, his solo is longer & better. Dazed & Confused, you can see him use a violin bow on his guitar. I hope you decide to try more live versions.
Such an epic performance! What gets me is when the silence drops at the end you could hear a pin drop in the audience. The studio version is similar but Zeppelin always changes up their performances a bit. It’s worth checking out too. Granted all Zeppelin is worth checking out.
Perhaps it is me but when I HEAR music like this it just sounds like NOISE. But when I LISTEN to it I pick up the nuances and begin to appreciate it. I still do no LOVE it but this is a start. Thanks Sue.
Great reaction, and great question re the studio vs. live versions! They are roughly the same length. The passion in Robert's voice is likely greater live, but not by much, tho you DO see his amazing stage presence here! I think Jimmy's twin guitar solos are even more impressive on the studio. You can hear John Paul Jones really go to town on bass more live (don't worry, it's easy to miss, lol, he was barely shown here, which is how he sort of liked it), but the biggest difference fo me is the drums. John Bonham's THUNDEROUS drums on the studio is reason enough to check that one out as well! You hear his skill more as well, with fills, etc. Again, "Bonzo" live here is FIRE, dgmw! But some people call the studio of this one "a Bonzo song" bc he's so strong on it. The whole group is of course almost miraculous, lol, yes big fan here, heh, and as superb as the PARTS are, the SUM of them is even greater, as they say. If you do check the studio, make sure you let it play to the end where you can hear them joking around afterwards, satisfied that they just did the version they knew was gonna make it onto the album!
Hey Joe, that is an amazing comment. Thanks so much for the backstory. I really appreciate it. I will definitely listen to the studio version of this song. I can tell you are a big fan. I love that! 🤩
@@playitagainsue Cool beans, yeah, u won't regret it. A deeper dive will show u that, as "heavy" as that song is, they can go AS light or soft as well, like with the lovely acoustic "Going to California" or "The Rain Song" or "Babe Im gonna leave you" which is mostly acoustic but has SUCH power behind it. They are insanely good, hardly ANY even mediocre songs, and yes, my fave!
.. Hi Sue .. Like you, I can definitely appreciate the technical expertise displayed in this performance, as well as the passion and conviction that Robert and Jimmy displayed .. But having said that, this is the type of music that will impress me for those aspects, but it doesn't really connect emotionally with me .. But it was nice to see how much enjoyment you got out of it .. You were right in the zone !😅
"Trampled Underfoot" from the same concert is just about as good. Anything from the 1973 Madison Square Garden concert is amazing but "Since Ive' been Loving You," is a show stopper. Dazed and Confused is around 28 minutes long from MSG. That is truly amazing. But make sure you do the MSG version if you do one and not the earlier one from 1969. That one is good too. But not as good as the MSG one. The MSG concert is one of the true great concerts ever caught on film. There is some add libs mostly by Robert that he adds to the Live version and for some reason John Bonham cuts out a really cool drum roll in the Live version. But otherwise they are pretty much the same.
Stairway from MSG - Kashmir from Knebworth '79 - Babe I'm Going to Leave You from Danmarks Radio performance in '69; LZ did not ever play any live song the same...EVER
This is the 5 th night at Earls Court having had 4 3 hr plus shows previous. The band is exhausted yet they give it their all for the audience and pull out a 4 hr show. Bruce who ?
Wow! That is amazing, DC. Honestly I don't lnow how they do it. I am exhausted just hearing you say it. To put out that much energy and passion on a fifth night in a row is just crazy...super human 🤩
@@playitagainsue that's why I love this band. You haven't seen anything yet lol. Robert had throat surgery in 1974 so his voice isn't as high in register as previous tours however he makes up for it in feel , tone and pure soul .
If you think this is special then you must check out Achilles Last Stand from Knebworth 79 .. Don't worry.. you'll have lots of time to pick your jaw up off the floor
ALWAYS listen to the original studio recording masterpiece (THIS IS NOT NOT NOT THAT IT IS SOME LIVE NIGHT YEARS LATER INFERIOR SOUND -ARENA SOUND AND THE FAMOUS LEGENDARY GUITAR SOLO IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT listen to the actual song on the album that everybody heard sessions of any legendary artist of the classic progressive rock era from the album the REAL SONG IT MAKES NO SENSE TO NOT LISTEN TO THE EXACT REASON why it became part of peoples souls otherwise you ruin your virgin listen and you are hearing some version always different if you want to understand HEAR EXACTLY WHAT YOU WERE MEANT TO LIKE WE ALL DID the real studio recording as it was meant and what made it legendary otherwise is dumb !!! your not hearing the real thing
I appreciate your input, Mark. However, many of the subscribers who asked me to do this song suggested I listen to the live version. I thought it was amazing. There always seems to be a divide between those who enjoy the studio versions and those that prefer the live versions. There is no right or wrong to either version, it is just personal preference. I enjoy both live and studio versions of songs and find that sometimes the studio versions are better and sometimes the live ones are...again no right or wrong. We all have our preferences and that makes life interesting.
