Oh yeah. Easily the most emotional sci-fi movie of all time! Also the literally mind-boggling visuals look like they’re gonna hold up for the long run and McConaughey should’ve gotten more love for that performance. This movie is the definition of “awe-inspiring” Not for nothing though, one movie this beat out in the vote was Upgrade. Ash has to see that, it kicks so much ass!

This is such a great movie -and if you don't care that I say: A great sign of a good man is the sight of him crying at movies of fathers protecting his children. I always cry to this and the end of A Silent Place messes me up for a long time afterwards.

Otherwise, Denmark here, I'm not a Nielsen myself, but my mothers sister and that part of my Family are all Nielsens, so for personal family reasons I would like you to watch the Leslie Nielsen comedy 'The Naked Gun', if you please. It's legendary USA comedy, but Nielsen himself was not US citizen. His father was an immigrant from Denmark who joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. His brother became the Deputy Prime Minister of Canada in the 80's and his half-uncle was the Danish-American actor Jean Hersholt who twice was awarded an honorary Oscar and a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and in his honor the "Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award" is still a special Oscar named by the Oscar Academy.

Fun fact about the Gargantua scene: Their vfx artist team asked an astrophysicist how a black hole works, and he gave them a super complex mathematical equation that they then built a rendering engine around. The gravity of the black hole is so intense that you can see the light being reflected from the other side, hence the halo effect. This is the most scientifically accurate black hole ever rendered.

Best part is, Gargantua ended up looking pretty much identical the black hole in the centre of the galaxy M87 when NASA released images of it back in 2019.

Hans Zimmer had no idea what the movie was about when he composed the main melody for the score. Nolan just gave him a tiny bit of dialogue between Murph and Cooper and Zimmer first thought Murph was a boy and what Nolan had wrote made him think about his relationship with his own son and subsequently write a score about it. So, the Interstellar score is profoundly personal to him

This movie literally changed my life. I dropped out of a major and couldn't find a job anywhere. Then I watched this movie and was so fascinated by it I started studying Physics, despite my family thinking I was crazy, cuz previously I dropped out of Biology, something they deemed easier than Physics. Graduated and to this day this movie gets me motivated to answer the questions it poses. To be honest, I didn't really think much of movies, just another form of entertainment. Boy was I wrong. I hope we get more of this in the future. Nolan is a master at what he does.

The black hole you saw? It was created out of a want to make a realistic black hole, which then just so happened to further the real-life knowledge of what black holes actually look like. They literally wrote and simulated a black hole from mathematics and equations which ended up, from a movie no less, giving us a better understand of black holes. Mind blown indeed. How you reacted, tears and all, is how I reacted to the film in the cinema. It was glorious watching it on the big screen, the music and the experience was phenomenal. Its musical score by the legendary Hans MF Zimmer is untouchable. But I think the word you're looking for is 'inspiring', inspiring to go and explore new worlds and galaxies that haven't ever been seen by the human eye.

It's also been corroborated since then. When they captured a real photo of a black hole in 2019, and even though it wasn't a very clear photo, it looked very similar to this film's rendition of it.

This movie was intelligent, heartbreaking, and hopeful all in one. One of the smartest sci-fi's to come out in a long time and the soundtrack and Mathew McConaughey's performance just elevates it... You ain't a real man if you don't cry at that scene when he gets that message from his daughter. I can't watch it without bawling my eyes out either and not think of my little one. One of the best movies EVER. The First time I watched it was after I was divorced I had to take a job over seas in Afghanistan working through the Department of State embedded with the USMC as a Police advisor to make enough money to get back on my feet at home. MY children were 14, 10 and 6 ( a boy and two girls ) they did not want me to go but stood strong in support of my decision. I cried like a little girl as I watched this movie on the Plane heading over seas. I was gone 5 years from my children ( sorta 5 years I did get to come home for 12 days every 6 months ). IT WAS DIFFICULT wondering if I would even make it home alive to see my kids from time to time. AWESOME MOVIE>

Wow. This is the first time I have seen such an emotional reaction to this movie. I remember seeing this and walking out of the movie theater feeling emptiness and wonder at the same time. I cried on that occasion and recently did it again when I saw it a while ago. It reminded me of my own Father, how obsessed he was with the space issue and the times we talked for hours. Cry because of the message that goes with it, my all time favourite, without question. Actually the Miller's planet is shaped like a football with one end always facing towards the gargantua(black hole). The waves are literally tidal waves, so it's not the waves coming towards you, it's the planet rotating under you and fixed waves slamming into you. So it's actually you going towards the waves.

This is my favorite movie of all time, it had a huge impact on me when I first watched it as well. An extraordinary story, pitch-perfect casting, groundbreaking visual effects, McConaughey's finest performance, Zimmer's greatest soundtrack... this is easily one of the best movies of all time, in any genre. I ugly cried *hard* the first time I watched it and even now I still get deeply emotional every time I see it. Every time I promise my daughter something, no matter how small, I will fulfill that promise. I'm not ashamed to say that line "because my dad promised me" breaks me, The only way I would not do the same would be if I was to die in the attempt of fulfilling that promise. The world may be in a messed up state, but I will always endeavour to be the one thing in life my daughter can depend on.

The planet that Matt Damon was on was filmed here in Iceland. Sólheimajökull glacier is the place. What can I say about the film? Its a masterpiece. The setting, acting, story, music, there's barely a wrong key. I know that some people don't get the ending but I don't care. Speaking of the music, it's just beautiful I listen to it ever so often. Highly recommend you get it.

My top favorite movie of all time. I've seen it 21 times to date, and each time I rewatch it, I get sucked right back into it. It's been months since I've seen it last, but I might throw it on tonight after seeing this video. I want to finish it so bad to see your reaction, but I also want to rewatch the movie myself before seeing your reaction just because it's been a while since I've last seen it. When I first saw this movie I cried because I knew what Matthew's character was going through. I left my country and got an asylum in America when I was 18. My country is a third world country and they don't have internet and I couldnt keep in touch with my parents. I maybe speak to them once or twice a year. One year when they got internet, I was able to facetime them for the first time in years. And I couldn't believe how old they got. I didn't recognize my parents. After I hung up the phone, I cried my eyes out. I felt like I was in a different time and space and while I was busy living life, my parents were getting old. It destroyed me.

The music is made by an instrument that's like this large metal bowl flipped over with small grooves cut around it as the "keys" that make different pitch sounds when you tap it. I totally forgot what it's called.

Interstellar is honestly my most favorite film in all existence, the science, the score, the feels. It's the only movie I bawl my eyes out to every time I watch it and I must have seen this film over 20 times. *That's a lot of crying* ! haha Even got the Blu-ray just so I can cry in at it even more, your reaction is so genuine and the pain you feel when you see those messages that span decades... when you see Murph back on the station. My god man, really really gets to me. The amount of research it took to create this film, and the pure emotion it gives off... time is fleeting and this film depicts that amazingly. Much love bro!

Yeah tell me about it- after "Inside out" became the first movie to strongly trigger tears from me in my life (at age ~35!)... it took three more years to stumble upon Interstellar, and during *that infamous scene*, while trying to eat a salad, I was like "why is there liquid dripping from my eyes? I see no onions in this salad!" :P Then I wondered "does everyone react that way to this movie, or is it just me?" ...and hence THIS reaction of Ash's is the first "movie reaction" I ever found. I still come back to this one from time to time :)

Glad you talked so much about the music. I've watched quite a few Interstellar reactions now and the music barely got a mention if at all. Hans Zimmer has this remarkable knack of taking simple notes and chord progressions and touching the soul. It's like he has some secret mathematical code or something and knows how to draw emotion from humans.

The clock ticking during the “waves” part actually represented a week going by on earth every tick. Such an intense scene lol had me on the edge for sure watching it. Edit :: Changed day to week after someone else clarified this was the correct interpretation

I think each tick was closer to a week, rather than a day. Also, each tick is slowed to 1.33 or 1.5 seconds, which further explains time warpage and slipping by being so near to the black hole. Amazing.

The movie Arrival is in the same class as Interstellar (IMO), emotionally, visually, and musically. Totally worth the watch for sure. :) Love your reactions :)

The main plot/story in Arrival is better imo, but everything else, Interstellar wins (characters, visuals, score, etc.).

Man I cried while watching your reaction just as much as I do every time I watch this movie. Loved you reaction man, felt it every step of the way! Any man that has a little girl, or little boy, knows how real and devastating this is. Or even those that have siblings or close loved ones, the ideas here are so incredibly difficult. My favorite movie and an incredible journey.

What you are seeing in this movie has happened. Not the blight but the great dust storms in the Dust Bowl. Often called "black blizzards" one of them was so powerful it was 2 miles high and traveled all the way to the Atlantic ocean. The Dust Bowl was a manmade and natural disaster all in one.

The silly robot design was one of multiple homages to _2001: A Space Odyssey_ :D ~SPOILERS~ -The alien monoliths in 2001 are slabs that measure exactly one by four by nine (one squared, two squared, three squared); so are the robots in Interstellar. -One robot even makes a joke about blowing someone out the airlock -The cinematography during the emergency spinning docking sequence had some very, very strong 2001 vibes -I'm told there are a number of musical similarities, too (tho I haven't seen either recently enough to confirm or deny) -I'm sure there are others...

I legit saw this movie like 7 times in the theatre. I was a college student at the time at the local movie theatre had a $5 movie deal for students so it didn’t cost much. This is definitely in my top 5 movies of all time. Watching it at home is nothing compared to watching this movie on the big screen.

My God what a rollercoaster of emotions this movie was. Watched it a few times, watched a few reactions but still, everytime I cry like it is the first time I’m watching it. I think it really tells how much of a masterpiece this movie is, and as I saw you crying I cried even more than I usually do; I can see you’re a very empathetic person and always refreshing to see some humanity in people especially in males as they often feel the need to suppress it, so thank you 👐🏼

I just got done watching this movie with my dad and uncle and I have to say if they weren't sitting there with me I would have cried like crazy. The two scene's that really tore me up is the video message from his daughter about being the same age has him and really needing him and the one were she is old and says she knew her father would come back because he promised her... even as I type this I wanna cry 😂😂

We have seen "dust", check out the "Dust Bowl" from the 1930's in the U.S. I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and even today there can be sand/dust storms in west Texas that turn the sky yellow and deposits a thin layer of dust over everything.

watched this the day it came out with a few mates (big Nolan/Zimmer fans) and we sat up the front row and we were all pretty stoned. I have never cried so much in a film before and I'm not sure if that was just because of the cones we did before the film started or its just that damn emotional and enlightening.. Brand was foolish for ignoring Cooper on Miller's planet, but the reason she got stuck is because she underestimated the gravity. The same thing eating away their precious time was also weighing them down a lot, and she wasn't able to get the wreckage off of her. She was moving panicked and recklessly to get to it, which caused her to stumble over it and get stuck.

The sadness of what is happening, the overwhelming majesty of space, the music. Yanks at those strings in us. But your way (like others too) of focusing on the daughter. Time lost. Desperate measures to get back. They rip those strings. Pardon an odd closing statement. If it is to be, and you would wish it, seeing your reactions to this can easily show you would be a wonderful father. Cheers mate.

When you learn how much time they've spent in the first planet, that has to be one of the most mindblowing moments in the history of cinema. Period. I just realized why: because nothing scares us humans more than realizing we've wasted our precious time in this rock of a planet.

I once sat in St Paul’s cathedral around Christmas, the organ was being played and it was something that sounded other worldly, imagine what it must have been like listening to an organ hundreds of years ago, the people listening must have surely thought the sound was sent from god. That’s how I view the soundtrack in this, the organ is sent from something bigger than ourselves… I don’t believe in god
