Hey guys! After over two years of development, I am finally here to show you guys the Redstone Computer v5.0, the latest installment in my series of Redstone Computers! It is improved in every way compared to the Redstone Computer v4.0, and it adds a plethora of new features as well while making existing operations more efficient!
I know I say this a lot, but thank you guys so much for the insane support with all of my computer science and computer engineering projects! The growth and support has been absolutely incredible, and you guys have been incredible! :D
Computer download (with information included):

1:22 - Introduction
2:26 - Differences and additions between this computer versus the RC4.0
12:23 - User Input Panel Breakdown
16:25 - Demo Programs

22:15 - Demo Program #3: Smiley Face Program
26:24 - Demo Program #4: "Random Drawing" Program
30:00 - Conclusion and Thank You :D
Computer specifications:
- 8-bit architecture and interface
- Register-based data model
- Four cores (which consist of an ALU + control unit + cache + a few other things) that are truly independent from each other
- Each core can run at separate speeds (variable clock speed integration)
- 32 bytes (31 accessible) of dual-read ERAM
- Each core has 128 lines of program memory (768 bytes per core, 3.072Kbytes of total program memory)
- Runs custom instruction set
- Can write, compile, upload, and execute programs on this computer that are written with the latest revisions of the ARCISS language specification with the DRCHLL Compiler Project
- Enhanced suite of IO to allow for better connectivity with other peripherals
- And much more! (you'll have to watch the video to find out :) )
Thank you to everyone who helped me make this possible / giving me inspiration for this project:

Probably look at an existing computer components
@nayber2352
@nayber2352 3 года назад
Its similar to a real computer in terms of development. You do each component in a test world to get a rough estimate of what their size will be, then you do "floorplanning" where you say this goes here, and this goes here, and this is the space I need for each part. Then you connect wires. In terms of what to build, computer architecture (ARM at least) is easier to understand than it looks at first. To do a computer, you would need to design an ALU, RAM, and registers. Then you set up a control system to read each opcode and activate/deactivate the different components designed before. This is actually the most difficult part (and most impressive) because you have to program a ROM to do these actions. If this interests you, you should absolutely look into computer architecture, it is a really cool subject. ru-vid.com/group/PLowKtXNTBypGqImE405J2565dvjafglHU will give you a basic overview of how this stuff works

@@nickmagrick7702 i mean if redstone is turing complete, then technically it doesn't matter because you can in theory run any program your computer can run. Only thing, is that you can not run the computer itself (you can't simulate your own computer within your computer) because it's computationally irreducible.
@nickmagrick7702
@nickmagrick7702 3 года назад
@@NightmareCourtPictures im not convinced thats the case, and I actually think it might be possible to out compute the computer the virtual one resides in. I can't prove this though, I just think its a possibility. You could maybe for example, have more complex ways of computing information in a virtual space. Objects in a virtual space do not have to be confined by the same laws of physics that they do in the real world, so I imagine some clever tricks could be done to circumvent the physical limitations of computational power with regular logic gates. Maybe if you made a non euclidean type of space, and created links between varying "chips" that have 4 dimensional connections instead of the more limited 3 dimensional ones. People are already making non euclidean physics engines as well.

I've got a little 4-bit adder. I was trying to make it useful in some way so it has two pressure plates as inputs (so max 15 items on each) and adds the two values together outputting to a 2 digit digital display. (OK not very useful!) The adder itself wasn't a problem, but the wiring to convert the input to binary and the output binary to the display is ridiculous! The length of the wiring and need for repeaters (both to extend the signal and prevent signal leakage) make it reallllllllĺlly slow.

This processor is mind-blowingly impressive for a single man to design. But the underlying mechanics of this contraption are not top of the world. This design is really similar in operating principles to one of the first Intel processors -- Intel 8086. That processor did instructions one-by-one, like this does. Modern processors have gone nuts over the last few decades. Executing instructions one-by-one is inefficient, as this means that at any given moment only 1% or so of the processor will be busy, while the rest awaits. Now processors are designed to make the most out of the metal. Instead of looking at a single instruction, modern processors look at several kilobytes of instructions (that means thousands) ahead SIMOLTANEOUSLY and choose which ones they can execute based on what parts of the processor are idling. They also enhance this with techniques of branch-prediction (processors are now able to guess outcomes of conditional jumps about 9 out of 10 times!). Thus a modern processor core may execute hundreds of instructions per cycle, and then have their results all ready to dispatch as their time comes. This is truly remarkable. If you want your minds be truly blown by complexity, read something on how modern processors work and optimize their performance :)
