Funny how you don't have trouble ground balancing that machine by doing what you're supposed to do...good lesson Bill, thanks.

this is just like working the beaches. Work the wet sand first, then work the dry sand. If you go back and forth, you'll never be on optimum settings. Nice demo Bill

I cut my teeth on a White's a long time ago. 6,000 DI Series 2. Had to ground balance it every 20 feet or more to keep the depth. I have never seen this done before Great learning. Thanks

Thank you and with the micro processor one must let the detector "see" more of the ground to balance properly, an averaging if you will.

My gold bug 2 is very similar- You have to re ground balance as you move along to different soil types...In the stream where you have 5 inches of black sand you have to turn her down..and when you leave the black sand you get to crank her back up...thanks for sharing the info.....Dig,Dig,Dig

Hi Bill.. Might be an idea to show how the coil should be Warped around-the shaft..Tightly as any movement on the coil leads lead to erratic noise.! I never done it properly and was wondering why it was so noisy while I was Detecting . Never looked at the manual.. Didn’t even put it through the clip on the side of the Gold Monster.. I have now filmed the Wright way to do it with L C D Gold (Locky ). Detector works 100% better now..! Will post it later.. Cheers Tony

NUGGET SHOOTER Thanks Bill.. Yes I never used a VLF Gold detector before and didn’t realize.. No wonder so many people think 🤔 the monster 1000 isn’t worth the money., They just don’t understand a VLF Detector. Also can you also mention that ground balancing in manual mode is not necessary..! Only in Auto mode is manual ground balancing necessary..! Cheers Tony.
@NUGGETSHOOTER
@NUGGETSHOOTER 6 лет назад
But it is necessary in BOTH modes Tony when in the Deep Mode and it must be done the same way as in Auto. The auto setting simply helps maintain the balance better as you move along in hot soils, manual settings require ground balance as the user hears the detector become unstable. I have shown this in a video a while back, but will be glad to do it again if you want. There can be areas of mild ground where balance will maintain itself better than others, but one must still keep the detector balanced as needed. Perhaps you mean in the Shallow Discriminate Mode Tony? When in this mode the detector needs very little Ground Balancing in Manual or Auto in most areas.

Great vid mate . I find it hard to balance in manual 10 down to 8 I've tried this method but can't seem to quiet it down . The auto settings I can like you did there but manual I can't seem to quiet down any hints or tips for me mate.
@NUGGETSHOOTER
@NUGGETSHOOTER 6 лет назад
Howdy James, Your soil can be a nightmare in some areas and truth is you lose very little sensitivity in Auto so use it if you can, even here the upper manual settings will not work in many places and we end up at 6 to 8 clicks and under 7 and I use auto (if it will work) and let the Monster do it's magic. Some areas are just to difficult though and we must settle for lower sensitivity, hope this helps.

Hi Bill Thanks for showing and explaining the ground balancing!. It’s a pity that Minelab didn’t know or put it in the owners instruction manual!. How did you figure out how to do it?. Cheers mate
@NUGGETSHOOTER
@NUGGETSHOOTER 6 лет назад
It was clearly explained by Phil Beck at the Minelab Partners Conference before it was released to the public and you can see it in some of the videos at Minelab's site. BUT, when I first got it I like everyone else tried using the GM 1000 like all other detectors we have owned, it was noisy and a pain to keep stable. Then I simply began using it like we were told and learned to understand the 24 bit micro processor which no other VLF detector has. Now I am on a mission to help others and this is the key to understanding your GM 1000 and yes the manual as most from most companies do SUX. I started this channel to try to help others find the same success as I have had by teaching them to setup their detector properly no mater what detector you own. Will be addressing Pulse Induction units soon as well.... Sorry so long winded, but was a good question lol

@@NUGGETSHOOTER Bill, The AI on my computer has pop-ups for preferred you tube videos. After watching yours it suggested an Australian Monster video from several years ago with 2 experienced Aussie detectorists. They were having fits and I wanted to yell at them to ground balance the machine and don't leave it in one place like you show in the video. Just goes to show you that new technology can meet stiff resistance when you don't understand all the nuances, especially, when you try to operate the new detector like your old one.

I’ve been Ground Balancing my GM1000 But whenever I do it I can’t get it to be completely Silent like you can most of the time Shooter 🤔 I guess it all depends on Location as well, I’m in Australia and I have been running it in Ground with a lot of Hot Rocks, hopefully my Luck improves 😊
@NUGGETSHOOTER
@NUGGETSHOOTER 6 лет назад
Ahhhh Australia, check out some of the Aussie GM sites features at my channel, if you can not use auto try backing the sensitivity off to like 7 or 8 clicks perhaps. Then balance her out....
@Antworm09
@Antworm09 6 лет назад
I’m from the Ballarat Goldfields Area, I usually try Auto and if it doesn’t cooperate after I balance it out I switch to manual and try those settings between 7 - 9 on All Metal Mode but still manage to pick up a lot of Hot Rocks it can be quite frustrating lol
@NUGGETSHOOTER
@NUGGETSHOOTER 6 лет назад
We have areas like that as well and in those cases the shallow discriminate setting may be the only option to quiet things down. There will be a loss of some sensitivity and depth, but you should be able to hunt without hearing the hot rocks. Sometimes it is the only way to manage in an area otherwise un-huntable.

Hi so is that an ancient river with all the washed down pebbles at the bottom or does it still come alive when you get heavy rain? And what was the little red spider looking insect? Cheers, don't have anything like that environment in the UK.

Metaldetecting Face San Domingo Placers are in material that is very old and there is some old sedimentary lake bottom or river Graves that are now rock and do hold gold. The red critters are a type of mite....

Great demo Mr Southern!!! One question I have is, if the micro processor is always working why does the unit have to be pumped up and down verses the unit balancing while swinging/hunting with it?
@NUGGETSHOOTER
@NUGGETSHOOTER 6 лет назад
Because it can not work alone and that is where you come in, I suppose in mild soil it would work that way, but not here. Just doing it the way the Minelab has designed the detector to be used.... Always better than second guessing eh? Arizona Goldfields (Southwestern goldfields actually) are very mineralized and constantly changing requiring operator diligence to keep the detector on the ball so to speak.
