Great stuff peeps! Would like these dnd campaigns sooooo much more if we could see the players like Rollplay on itmejp's channel and one shots with neal (with an "a"). That said still super enjoyable keep it up mense!
This is brilliant; thank you for the upload! It's such a shame finding long campaign D&D is nearly impossible on RU-vid, given it's an instant 10-50k views (and some people upload word definitions for the 1k views they'll get over the years) you'd think SOMEONE would do it. Especially All Flesh / Zombie RPG's. .__.
my last dnd meet i saved my friend that was being attacked by a dire wolf and then she punched me unconscious and said that i killed the poor doggy for no reason i dont really think she grasps the point of the game
I love this podcast. Will definitely watch the later episodes. My D&D group is a lot like this one, with funny characters and making jokes all the time.
Holy crap that was the funniest thing I've heard in a long time. I was laughing nearly the entire time. Best D&D sesh ever. I WISH I had a group like this.
+Skylar Lee i might be saying something you already know but have you tried listening/watching the PAX vids of Acqusitions Inc? rly funny and fun gaming
Wasn't this written with the Next (the ruleset leading to 5e) playtest rules? If anyone is interested you can get this module for free at dms guild. www.dmsguild.com/product/170811/Mines-of-Madness-Next
speaking as a new player whos only been in 7-8 people parties im on my 3rd campaign and with so many extra players doing like rouge stuff with a guild or even exploring new possibilities such as finding a random quest is hard because not everyone can join in on it or wants too with a smaller party the story can change really easily and theres a lot more character development allowing for characters to split from the party without the DM says "well shit now i have to run this 6 player story over here AND the other one player over here" trying to get it to work out smooth is very hard from what i've seen that and some DM's (my first) will not allow that to happen because he planned something epic but didn't take into consideration how the players felt and how they played their characters with so many its hard to remember the way every one else plays and how they react :) but this is just my opinion happy gaming :3
Agreed. This was absolutely terrible, aggressive dickery from the DM. There's no excuse for that. He should've fudged a roll, crafted something on the fly to let him live.
IrishAndroid except that Scott saw what he rolled as soon as he did it. Plus the dm had characters standing by, and it sounds like he made the characters, so this was clearly not unexpected
It is a funhouse dungeon. It is designed that way and meant to be a party-killer. It is one of the ways to play D&D, especially for one-shots and quicker adventures and such. If it was regular D&D then of course the DM would never play like that. It isn't terrible, it's written in the actual adventure. If it was meant to be a regular/serious adventure, then of course the DM would never throw a purple worm at 3rd level characters. That would be unwinnable, and that is the kind of dungeon this is supposed to be. Ever heard of tomb of horrors? Funhouse dungeons are meant to be ridiculous and over the top and totally unwinnable TPK's waiting to be unleashed. They are all laughing and making jokes and having fun. It's enjoyable when you are using "throwaway characters"
I agree, the players are having a fun and that is all the matters. The DM did a great job working with the players personalities. This is one of the funniest podcasts I have ever listened to.
I admit I am only 10 mins in, but I would be wincing if my players spoke to each like this all the time... Constantly asking stuff such as who has the most hit points and whatnot in relation to what's going on in the game world. Absolutely zero RP involved. I mean, it's great to have fun and crack jokes, we all do it, but this isn't much of a role playing game to me. It seems more of a game of just matching statistics to problems and spamming kinda lame jokes... I will try and give it another go sometime, maybe they get better as they go. It did surprise me though, I thought at least a couple of the players were vets. Maybe I have just been spoiled with groups that manage to balance laughs and role play better.
Not everyone plays the game the same way. As a DM I have a separate game that I run for players who are interested in serious RP. Any other games I do are really just about having a good time.
dlamey8015 Oh, I'm not talking about serious RP at all, I am talking about light fun RP. It is a RPG after all. I'm not saying that they need to be RADA trained actors taking it deathly seriously, just that they could at least attempt to put a little soul into the game. It just dissapoints me that in 5.0, a game that is clearly trying to make headway into encouraging RP after the tactical skirmish board game that was 3.5 or the MMO inspired gumph of 4.0, WotC showcase a game like this with 'official' players doing none. I get that not everyone plays the same way, but it is just a missed opportunity to show new players how to bring some flair and imagination to their characters and have their personality, not their stats, define how they interact with the world.
+Chad-Solomon Dixon What do you mean by that? You know a lot of DMs, myself included, write out important text ahead of time, right? It's common practice.
Chad-Solomon Dixon Not everyone has the same contextual memory. I can understand what you mean, but a lot of people can't just remember things for a while.
I don't really understand what he means, really. I'm a writer and I write out descriptions for player locations beforehand because it's much better to have a well-constructed exquisitely worded sentence than a "uuhh.. yeah, the, the air's uh, foggy, uh, I mean, hard to breathe in, and you uh, hear water drip. from somewhere."
