Don’t cut the arm off the pin unless you have to I’ve done it plenty and never had to cut the arm of you wedge it and then slides right in

What's the little chain behind the main one? Oil pump or something? Mine is super slack. Is that normal?

Er. No. You do not have to remove the chain to calibrate it. You just lock everything in position and re-tighten the bottom bolt. Check it's tight enough.

So I replaced my head gasket when I took my chain off I was an asshole I know and didn’t use the locking tool. I think now my timing is off just a little what is the best bet to recalibrate using this

I want to advance the cam timing because my engine is running super cool. Could this be because the tensioner does not seem to be working? I fitted a new kit but after only 2000km it's slapping real bad. I'm wondering if i got a bad tensioner, too short or something. If it still runs cool after i find this issue causing the slap then perhaps i will try advancing the cam timing, i changed thermostat and sensors but no change. I would not really expect the tensioner (or lack of tension) to have retarded the timing because the tensioner should be on the slack side of the chain, but perhaps.

Hi i have just done a full rebuild on my R56 using supertech parts top to bottom schrick cams etc.most important thing i learnt was 82mm timing chain tensioner was a factory fix a must when building new dont buy cheap parts

@@coreycarlincadman1200 unfortunately i fitted the short tensioner. I thought this is why it started to become noisy but in the end it was the bottom pulley coming loose. The bolts sheered off. New ones were expensive and it was too tricky to extract the old ones. I welded the two parts back together. Works fine.
