I’m from Russia, I’ve been living in the USA for 7 years, I bought myself a BMW X3 Copart at an auction with a mechanical problem, I need will fix the engine, I watched a lot of videos on Russian-speaking RU-vid, there’s nothing like it, this set of videos is the best of all on RU-vid, even though I’m bad I understand English, but still images are the most valuable thing here and everything becomes clear, thank you very much! I would add spare part numbers for this engine to your videos in the description, many people do this and it is very useful.
holy shit i love you for this, i just tore down an n26 and was stressing about putting it back together i cant stress enough how much this is going to help me
You love to see it. Honestly the content is really great and it encouraged me to work on my engine’s mechanic culprits. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
@@bimmer.doctor haha nice to be recognized 🥳 What you are doing is a dream for me. I work on my own BMWs and do small repairs and maintenance but I would love to do some major stuff or small restorations. But currently I don't have the space to do it. But this is a long time goal for me so someday it will happen :) You are an inspiration to me! Looking forward to the next video!
Will part 5 come? My 5.20 n20 1.6 engine stopped while driving on the road and did not give any warning, the engine does not turn, the tow truck went to the service, it has not been disassembled yet, it may cause a malfunction, my vehicle has 192 000 km.
Awesome job! One can see you're highly skilled 👌 The best way to learn how to reassemble an engine is doing it couple of times, and just make a lot of mistakes.
Hello Friend! I am back to Montreal & glad to see that you TY channel continues growing: keep up the GREAT work and you will soon hit 10k, then 100k, then, why not, a Million! Cheers
this is great, my n26 seized recently but unfortunately I don't have the means to do it myself at this moment and the shop was charging an arm and a leg to replace the motor with a used one. sad to see it go, car was mint and had FBO, all carbon
Great video! Thanks for including the tq specs. Just a heads up if you want to torque with a crowsfoot it's done at a 90degree not inline with the torque wrench.
hi bimmer doctor loving this series so informative and helpful! about to do this to my own n20 that seized, just wondering if you could offer a bit of help, im looking to know what hardware needs to be replaced i.e. what do i need to buy to put it back together? any help is greatly appreciated, keep up the good work loving this channel!
Hi there, At the end of the series I always include a full parts list. Unfortunately I am a bit behind in my videos so that final episode won't be posted for at least another few weeks. A good place to start would be to check out the FCP Euro timing chain kit. You can find it for better prices if you shop around for individual parts, but that should help give you an idea. Good luck!
Nice work! I did an N20 timing chain + turbo replacement on a manual 328i at my shop a few months ago, and this brings back some memories. Much more annoying to do all of this in the car, I will say. Side note, have you done any work/owned some older BMW's? Much easier to work on, and in my opinion, better driving cars overall. I'm talking E39, E36, E34, E32, E28, etc.
Thanks! Yes, having done both ways, it's definitely a lot easier working on an engine stand than in the car... I haven't really had the opportunity to work on those nice older classics. The problem is where I live (Montreal), by the time the cars get that old, they are usually in such bad shape rust wise it's not worth anything even after a full mechanical rebuild. Definitely something I want to tackle one day though!
How did it go with the plastic cover? are there any leaks? I chose to mount an aluminum cover because I wanted to be sure that it wouldn't break like the original plastic one. greetings from Italy
At 2:55 are you using a standard length T45 to remove the two lower pins for the chain guides? I know the one upper bolt requires an extended T40 but the lower two...?
@bimmerdoctor do you work in surgery or sterile processing? That blue wrap that you have the timing chain on is what we use in surgery for our sterile instruments.
Haha good eye! That’s exactly what it’s from. A friend of mine gives them to me when they unwrap the equipment. Where are you located? I’m in Montreal.
Do you have any idea how to hook up the evap system there sure isn't one single video on the N20? I've hooked it all up except one of the evap lines and have absolutely no clue where it goes. It's the long one in the back of it that curls like underneath. Don't see any plug for it. Is there a hose for it I'm not seeing?
Never put after market parts they will break after a year and so. After doing all this kind of work its not worth it. I am saying this from experience.
Question, are the bolt on the oil pump torque to yield or can they be reused? I know the oil pump sprocket bolt is one time use but can't seem to find this info anywhere.
@@bimmer.doctor One more question for you, I plan on doing the rod bearings while the oil pan is removed. My thinking is that I will replace the timing chain and oil sump chain and torque the harmonic balancer bolt but leave off the oil sump sprocket bolt. This will allow me to rotate the crank to do the bearings while keeping the top end timed. I will then change the bearings, put the engine back in time with the tool and put the sump back on so it is in time as well. Does this sound correct to you and/or would there be anything else you would do differently?
Yes sir, that would work perfectly. That way you know everything is in time and you don't have to worry while turning it over. Then you can reinstall the oil pump when you're done the bearings. Good luck!
With an engine is freshly rebuilt why did he replace the all coolant pipes 😳 very professional with his work replacements some parts with OE and referring to BMW repair manual like Streten known as M539 restoration 🙌
