Mini Cooper S R53 brake upgrade to bigger R56 ( JCW ) fronts - Mini R53 project

I've had brakes upgraded on my R50 mini, so decided to swap them over to my new R53 since the stock brakes overheat to much. It's a straight forward job, all you need are calipers with carriers and hoses ( also disc and pads duh : ). Cheaper option is to go with R56 Cooper S brakes, but this is the same size disc and caliper as R53 JCW.

I’ll be doing an upgrade on mine soon,I’ve just bought the discs and callipers,I found your video very helpful and I’m sure I’ll check it out again when I’m doing the swap over 👍🏻

Question? Can you use the OEM R53 brake lines? Or do you need an adapter? Also: 😯... The intro guitar riff is "sticking in my eye" by NOFX. I'd recognize it any where...

You need R56 brake lines because R53 has banjo bolts and R56 doesn't. Also: Well yes, of course it is 😁

nice work!, I upgraded my f56 front and rear brake rotors to ceramic but decided to stick with oem pads. which i believe they are semi-metallic. I get alot of dust especially in the front, do you think this wil be a problem? also I do get a bit of scoring on the ceramic rotors(stoptech-drill/slotted); would you recommend swapping the pads that are also ceramic? thank you for your informative video, subscribed!:)

If you are not tracking your car than go with ceramic pads... If you are attending trackdays and do "agressive" driving - stay away from them. The only thing ceramic pads are good at is low dust

Willow's shed, nice. PLS write what is rotor dimension. they have 280mm and 294mm. I have some doubts in the wheels topic - if the 16" wheel rim will fit on 294mm rotor and caliper.

They are 294mm, you can fit almost any 16" wheel

@@mattwillow7 thankyou, I got some 294mm rotors from a friend for almost nothing so going to do this upgrade, seems to be one of the best ideas considering the stock brakes are below par

Hi, nice video! I would have a question: are the front brake pipes the same as those of the R53 such as length and attacks?

Hi, it's all the same, only difference is R53 use banjo bolts and R56 screw in directly to the caliper

@@mattwillow7 I already have the brake lines in steel with the standard r53 system. I wanted to upgrade with the r56 brake, do you think by changing the banjo can I use the same lines? or do I have to buy the brake lines again? Thank you!
