In this week video we have my own car again :) a Mini Cooper S R53 overheating finally fixed , it was a day that i knew it was coming because in the previous repair where we found the power steering pump fan seized blowing a fuse and bringing the circuit down i've noticed my cooling fan only working when i helped moving it, at first i thought the segments in the fan motor was bad but it wasn't the case the fan bearing was the problem impeding the fan from spinning easily very likely corrosion ...
I'll take you through the diagnostic process of finding the problem where we check the cooling fan circuit and cooling fan change. We also fixed a Radiator Leak .
I don't know if i was clear in the video but the issue here with my car was only overheating in traffic or stationary for a while meaning that the fan wasn't coming on , now we know that the resistor thermal fuse was blown , as you probably know the resistor is located where it is because it needs to be cooled by the fan but because the fan wasn't working sporadically with the partially seized bearing , at some point the thermal fuse gave up ....

Just noticed a week ago that the car was getting a bit hot and when I got home If I turned it off right away the reservoir would bubble a little I hooked up scanner and saw regular temps, I read on a forum to let it sit until fans start then shut off and no bubbling. I can’t do it every time I drive so I looked online some more and realized that only high temp fan was running and not low temp fan, I know it’s one fan but two speeds. So this must be the issue. I did test the engine block for exhaust leak cause my Audi had bubbling in the res tank but showed no signs of blown head gasket until I did a block leak test. I tested the block and it was fine so I was happy to see that. Also the plastic bleeder screw was previously stripped so I ordered a new brass bleed screw cause I read they strip or break very easy. Thank you for this video! Some one had told me that the whole fan had to be replaced which is obviously not the case.

Great video. FYI a soldering iron, like one used to do stain glass, would work and heat the wire from underneath and let solder flow to the iron!

Nice job Igor neat and tidy and the right way to do wiring. the liquid tape is great I have seen jobs done with just a swist of the wire and a bit of insulation tape over it drive me crazy

How's she goin'? Nice repair. It's always nice when you can determine what the fault is and then prove it by looking at what is damaged. Interesting about the fluid leak. Must have been like that from the factory like you say. Thanks for sharing and take care!!

Thanks Mike yeah finding the failed part is the way to go ... Yeah the radiator is just over a year old I’ve noticed recently it was weeping a bit but couldn’t believe it was coming from the elbow connector , well at least seems to be holding for now with a thicker O ring 🤗🤞👍👍👍

Nice one Igor. Most of those minis I've worked on for Aircon just cycle the condenser fan on speed 2 because that resistor is always blown.
@CarsExposed
@CarsExposed 4 года назад
Yeah those resistors don’t seem to last for too long , I was surprised about relay for speed 1 being commanded on for speed 1 and 2 , I’m not sure about the strategy there but it works 😊👍👍👍 cheers mate

I bought a Mini Cooper R53 2005 is overheating but I haven’t find the solution , I change the thermostat, radiator which was leaking also installed a brand new, my mechanic also suggested me to replace the spark plugs and Ignition coil and cables and the card is still over heating. I noticed the steering wheel is kind of hard to turn left o right, I looked underneath the card and the power steering pump does not have the liter cooling fan , and the car just overheat when I stop in a traffic light or to add some miles in the gas station . I have the hypothesis that maybe is overheating because of the power steering pump is not working properly and also because the fan is missing . Could you please give me your opinion? I would appreciate

Hello Igor, great video ! I have the same problem with the fan. I also bought a new resistor like you did. There are 3 wires, 2 red and one blue. I tried to see how you connected them, but its not quite clear. Can you tell me where the blue wire goes? The 2 red wires are clear. It looks to me as if the new/second hand one has no relay at all...I am not very good at electrics so is the relay gone ? And the blue wire connected somewhere? I hope you can help me out here...Kind regards from the Netherlands. Martin

i bought a new radiator, that looks very much like yours. upon inspection the o-ring was not at fit properly. it was totally dry and twisted, deformed like yours. i also noticed the groove around flange connection is like .5mm too deep, even if the o ring was fit properly, there'd be issues soon. these problems are common with cheap aftermarket parts. however i put some silicon spray to the ring, then applied silicon sealer around the flange, making the flange permanently fixed to the rad. no leaks so far.

Hi great video very good. I saw my Mini r53 also starts fan at 105 degrees Celtius. And stops at 100 degrees. So I think it’s the second fan like A.C. I would like mine to start like at 95 degrees and stop at 90 degrees. You think it’s ok to start at 105 degrees because it is an lot of pressure.
@CarsExposed
@CarsExposed 3 года назад
I’ve seen lots of vehicles starting the fan at 105 , to be honest if it’s designed like this I don’t see a problem in leaving it 👍👍👍
