Wintertime in Canada means lots of snow, ice and salt on the sidewalks. For that reason, we use waterproof dog boots to protect our miniature dachshund Mac's paws. There is always a little bit of a learning curve when we get them out each year :)
Mac is a miniature sausage dog (doxie, teckel, dackel) who lives in Montreal. Follow his adventures here!

Mac, you have the best Momma and Poppa ever! They carefully introduced you to the booties and worked with you so that you could get used to walking in them. You are stylin' and have it down by the time you have to go outside in them. Good job Mac's Momma and Poppa!

Nice exercise boots. They'll be nice when protecting against sharp ice and salt irritation. There are lots of bootie brands. One type is just like a deflated balloon and doesn't receive much reaction when put on.

Ah those little boney legs 😂 Actually since recording this video, we’ve had some problems with them coming off on longer walks, so we wouldn’t recommend them. The hunt for good winter boots for dachshunds continues!

Mac's parents should actually be professional dog trainers they are so good patient and caring obviously Mac is always willing to please and so good natured would imagine he would be a dream to train plus he is very clever all the work paid off and he looked so happy to be walking out and about in his new boots and very stylish coat hugs to adorable Mac☃️

Well done! Don't recall booties being available (or at least promoted) back in the 80's when I had my mini-dach, Mitzi, but given the problems with winter weather and salt etc. getting into their paw pads, it's definitely worth the learning curve!

Total cuteness overload!!! I was wondering if you 'd ever thought of getting him a doggy stroller, I know he wouldn't get his exercise when riding in it, but maybe for some outings it might be good, just to get fresh air?? I don't have a dog, but those pet strollers I see are so adorable. 🥰

Ah yes, we’ve seen them, and they are super cute! ☺️ We’ve definitely considered it, but Mac really likes to walk on his own - even when he’s tired, he’ll sit down and take a break but doesn’t want to be carried much. Perhaps when he gets a little bit older and has less energy 😄
