I made this and put a lightweight fusible interfacing on the back. It doesn't make it stiff or add any bulk but keeps all those raw edges neat and covered.
I made one of these from a kit from Featherweight Shoppe. My only modification was for the center. I used a little bit of FrayCheck in the center, then made my hole. No buttonhole stitch. It's held up fine.

That’s adorable! It would just brighten up my sewing machine. I don’t have a featherweight but I do have an almost 50 yr old Kenmore. But it would be great for my Altair as well!
Thanks for the tutorial. I am thinking this would be good to do in larger sizes with the felt backing for table topper and/or coasters. The idea of a quilt is also wonderful.
Great video. I love the idea of putting a backing to the dresden plate! I have this pattern and extra wool, so I think I'll made one with a wool backing. Thank you for the idea!! My mom had a Singer 310 I believe it was and it used cams so at first I thought you were going to show one of those but then I did remember those felt pads she had for the spools. Hers were gray I think. I kick myself for not taking that machine instead of offering it to my sister in law. I had a couple of Pfaff machines and thought I would not need it. So stupid of me! 🙁

That pattern, with a variety of other things, is listed and you just download whatever you want to from what is on offer. From time to time they find something else and add it so over time what is on offer has kept growing. The pattern for the spool pin dresden is near the bottom of the selection now.
When you get the newsletter, scroll to the bottom and look for the 'subscriber bonus' section. Click on it and it will take you to all the free downloads.
As I recall they don't just send it to you automatically - you log in after you've signed up (or even as you sign up) and look for "Free Patterns & Featherweight Ephemera! " There you'll find it, along with lots of other interesting "Singer" (and especially Featherweight) things. The little booklets on things like ric-rac are some of my favourites. :-)
