This review should be the template for all youtube reviewers out there. Lots of info and right to the point. Very well done. Thank you for making this review
The reason I did the unboxing was to show how it was delivered. When I ordered this one I didn't know if it would come in a crate or a box or on a pallet. I thought others might want to know also.
@@WilliamFrawley You can't make everyone happy, I enjoy the sound of a 3d printer running, so it didn't bother me at all. Great Review, probably going to purchase one based on this
I am a novice on lathes but you did an excellent job on this video. Great audio and video with great information. Thank you for posting. I am thinking about buying this lathe or the slightly larger Vevor one with digital readout.
I have a similar lathe and improved the run out on the chuck by removing the chuck, and putting a dial indicator on the backing plate. I had about 0.002 run out. took a skim pass on the backing plate and now it runs a lot truer. I was really surprised at how much of a difference it made.
I have a mini lath and I am wondering this : Do they purposely build those machines with such defaults ? Building the very same machine with just decent quality would be so easy and cost not a penny more. Is it a hidden goal for such obviously grossly bad parts ?
The vevor branded ones are pretty good, reasonably well finished, they have wipers and oil zerts on the saddle which a lot of them are missing. I got my Chuck running dead true by skimming the back plate and then stoning one jaw. I would recommend for these using free machining steels.
I would have liked to see you use compound feed and cut some threads. But still, a very nice review. I've been waffling around buying this lathe, and your review has provided some much needed information. Thank you again.
I just recently got my Vevor lathe. It arrived all beat up, even the ends of the box were broken. You guessed it: FedEx delivery! Once inside, every piece of sheet metal was bent, some so bad the rivets were sheered. Three hours later I beat the dents out and re-riveted the metal. I spent another 6 hours adjusting each part and the tension of the moving parts. The three-jaw chuck has .008-inch runout. Then, the start stop switch would not keep the lathe running. Buyer beware.
What a friend, a question, I bought the mini lathe but it arrived without cutting tools, without a drill bit, do you know of any page that handles them?
I bought one in October last year, sorry but what a useless piece of c#%p, the tail stock centre was 1.5 mm lower than the chuck center, absolutely useless.
Nice job Sir. I received more detailed information from you regarding leathes in this viedo than I did watching 20 others combined. Kutos to you Sir. Direct and to the point. Nice Job!
Excellent review I found it most helpful and informative thank you for sharing your obvious extensive skill and knowledge with all of us,kind regards,Phil.
This is my 2nd Chinese lathe which is branded vevor and seems to be better quality, these machines have their inherant problems worst one being the motor is weak stalling out stressing the belt and doing damage, but was surprised to find a spare belt in the parts bag. BTW those belts are almost impossible to find!!! Mine arrived in good time well packed damage free......as with most all these cheap imports need mods so they'll run right........i have the 7x14 digital readout metal gear version and paid $520
good review! Got one on the way so the info was timely. As a lifetime CNC machinist I've always wanted a lathe n a mill in my garage. This one imma use for replacing tips on pool cues mostly.
I think you could if you kept everything adjusted correctly. Maybe use an attachment like this guy: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QHsBiJNae1U.html
An excellent presentation, thanks. 👍 Also, looks like an awesome printed drill press, I'll take a look though your channel for more detail... Damn! Nothing!
Thanks for the review. I am thinking about getting one of these. I used to have a Smithy Drill Mill Lathe combo, so going into this I am expecting to have to tweak and adjust this on arrival. Maybe even some scraping on the bed. The 7 x14 is available on Ebay for about $400 right now.
Here is the link for the indexable carbide insert tool set: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0087R9OUA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Is this what you are looking for?
I remember taking 4 yrs of machine shop in HS in the early 70’s. I bet those plastic gears won’t last. When making a video you should turn off your printer or plotter.
>> *As A Jouneyman + Avionics Machinist w/ 45 years exp.,, This is A Very Good Video and this small lathe seems that it could be Very Handy fo some Modeling and DRAG Slot car parts I am planning on making. >> Many Thanks to This Videographer.
Just watched this video, very helpfull. I need to adjust the tellstock down to align, I saw how you did back & forth but not up & down, any help would be appreciated, thankyou.
You can't make them with this lathe after unpacking it. This lathe is weak out of the box. You need to make it better. Upgrade and modify stuff. Search on yt "mini lathe upgrade" etc. You will find lots of info
I’m happy with it. I think it’s solid and well built. I use it for very small parts. Depending on what you are going to use it for, you might want the larger model.
I just got this lathe but just noticed a lot of bad reviews on the motor burning out. I'm really nervous of that happening to me as I want to do titanium rings on a low rpm of course. How does it do with harder then steel materials
yes, but it does not have a thread dial so you have to stop the lathe, back out the tool, reverse the lathe without disengaging the lead screw and then do the next cut
I found one online for sale at $75 and could not believe that it was so inexpensive AND good to use. You make it seem like it is totally worth the money, however :) Thanks for your help, and wonderful video!!!
@@Jackofallthetrades bro I was looking for this comment. Just today I saw one for 70, but the company's website said 400. I was so confused. Good to know it isn't a scam
delivered without chuck key and external jaws and customer service was a pain to deal with, good luck holding less than .0015, no spindle speed read out, BAD you can start the spindle with the feed lever engaged, I should have saved for a better lathe, I am not used to trying to make parts on a toy
I own a minilathe for nearly 3 years now. The cost is ridiculously low, so the quality is too... If you want a efficient tool for learning or working...forget it. If you want an opportunity to fiddle with mechanical toy and tweak it is just perfect. You can easily improve it and make it way better. You can afford to fail and destroy it. But be aware : it will takes you time and effort more than the part you'll produce actually justifies!
