A young but fearless Australia A batting line-up, featuring some future stars of the game, gave the senior Australian side an almighty scare at the MCG in 1995
The policy of Australian cricket board was best at that time thats whay they were unbeatable from 1999 to 2011 and won 03 consective W.Cups, simply amazing.
Was a good season for the Aussies who later went on to topple the West Indies in their backyard. But a sad one for passionate cricket fans. Dean Jones had announced his retirement a few months before this after he was shut out of the test team completely. This was a very good season for Craig McDermott who had slumped for 2 years after a successful comeback 4 years before & outbowled Shane Warne for the first time. But after this his career again petered away due to injuries, poor form & young seamers breathing down his neck. Lastly Merv Hughes was in the Australia A side but was dumped during the closing stages of this tournament. But that's how the Australian management was always, little respect for age & past reputation but only focusing on performance and future.
India has the talent pool that West Indies of the 70-80s and Australia of the 90-2000s had. Its just that India doesn't know how to manage them. But Australia knew how to handle and manage their talent and hence they dominated world cricket during that period
1995 was before Gilly was an international player he didn’t make his ODI debut until late in ‘96 and didn’t become settled in the team until ‘98 really.
It was a 4 team one day tournament also featuring England and Zimbabwe. Yet Australia had so much talent and so many great players that the senior team and the A team with the brilliant youngsters were far too good for England and Zimbabwe.
