Wheels: amzn.to/2mza0lK
Tires: amzn.to/2O55Dva
If you've got a 1/16 Mini Revo, you need a center differential. Why? Well the center diff helps to prevent your front/rear diffs from breaking AND helps prevent wheelies! Although cool, wheelies slow you down, and are VERY tough on the rear diff. I found that when I opened up the transmission and center diff on mine, that it was dry! No fluid at all. (slowly haha) pouring in think fluid helped the mini Revo accelerate faster and handle better!

I just did this upgrade, and I'm glad that I did. Much more enjoyable to drive, and it doesn't burn diffs anymore. I'm still running 50K, and can see how a little higher weight diff fluid might balance it better.

Thanks for the info. I literally did the center diff tonight based on your vid. Can you tell me what wheel/tire combo you are running? They look way better than stock.

What's your verdict on this mod? Doesn't the Mini Revo already do wheelies too easily?

Will it have a affect when doing flips and jumps? I go to a local skate park and do flips and also I hit top speeds.

Bought a few of these for my boys and I to moto around a track in our yard. Bought the center differential upgrade and when we got it together it seems to slip. Any suggestions? We use the 1/16th slash 4x4.

Hey, does the center diff help to avoid strippig out the rear diff gear? Did you also shim your diffs? Greets
@continuecrushingrc3653
@continuecrushingrc3653 6 лет назад
center diff will help prevent stripping out the rear diff since it helps take some of the load off during launching/accelerating. Shimming the diffs will also help a bunch, and make it as bulletproof as it can be (which still isn't all that much, but it's the best we can do).

Great video !!!! Damn, you can fit a 1/10 scale motor in the e revo 1/16! I am going to give it a go when i get my e revo 1/16 next year

yeah it's absolutely ridiculous haha. It really changes the truck though, and and I was almost afraid to beat on it. Almost.

Amistry20 unless things have changed recently a 1/10 motor will only be a direct bolt in for the brushed version. If you start with the vxl version you will either need the motor plate from the brushed version or one of a few different available aftermarket motor plates. If you go aftermarket you may lose the ability to keep the pinion/spur area sealed from debris.

I like the slipper better you can ajust it to your driving style center diff you have to change diff fluids
@carloslara7452
@carloslara7452 2 дня назад
You can still have a slippery clutch and the center differential, with these cars with the transmission, the spur gear that is driven by the motor pinion directly is the slipper gear while the center differential is inside the gearbox, stock these cars have a solid differential and the center differential is an option part for these

Waste of money. I installed it, added 100K diff fluid and it still allowed the front axle to spin out of control and ballooned front tires. Your car will be slower and less exciting to drive. Why would you want to basically turn it into an open differential? People add heavier fluid to make it less "open". Stick with the stock closed diff. It was a fun experiment I guess but this open differential doesn't improve the driving experience as far as I can tell.

Add thicker differential fluid. Traxxas has 20m in the revo 2.0. You can buy that along with 1m, 500k, etc.

Did you try it out with thicker fluid? I want to try this too. By the way, the video person used 100k fluid but has a 1/16 Mini revo.

Since i put my center diff i havent flipped my car over ONCE, makes the driving much more fun

I put a glob of 500k in mine (about half 50k + 500k ) 200-300k. its perfect For people that enjoy some locked center diff wheelies with alot less shock to the rear diff and much improved on power handling. Im running a 5700kv 540 sensored motor (on 2s). 21t pinion, stock spur. (was a brushed 550 model). I also dont lock my slipper and have the punch on my esc set to 2/5. Full 500k or higher wt Oil would be too much for any actual torque distribution. (unless you fill the diff cup less than half)

Actually no, the diff does not change the speed pitch between the front and rear and I'll tell you why. First I'm a master automotive technician and the differentials in the MERV is built exactly the same as automotive diffs. There is a difference yes because there is "slip" in the differential, it simply acts much like a slipper clutch as the center diff is on the input shaft ie spur gear. For it to change the actual pitch speed between front and rear it would need to be on the output shaft in which case it wouldn't work at all and during hard accel would in fact spin the front wheels backwards when they lift off the ground. Take a laser RPM tach and look at the wheel speeds, you'll see. 😉

I did not mean that the gearing changed in that way (permanently, when there is no resistance on front or rear wheels).. But the gearing does change (technically) when the diff sends power to the front or rear. If someone doesn't have locked front or rear diffs, they can try this: set the controller trim forward or backward just a tiny bit with the truck on its back (so wheels are barely turning). Now, stop one of the the back wheels. The other wheel speed will increase. This is what's happening in the center diff, but between the front and rear.
@TrooperLeary
@TrooperLeary 6 лет назад
continuecrushingrc that is also incorrect. As the rear differential is attached at both sides to each axle. The center diff is not attached to the front and rear driveshaft by way of its output shafts, the spur gear turns ab input shaft, there's another input shaft protruding the front which is not connected. It is in fact the the gears within therefore what you're stating isn't happening.
@continuecrushingrc3653
@continuecrushingrc3653 6 лет назад
The center diff is exactly like the front and rear diffs. The center diff is "attached" to the front and the rear. If you stop one side, power goes to the other (but this time the sun/spider gears come into play). Just like the left and right tires. Again, simple test is setting a constant speed on the remote with the truck on its back, and stopping one wheel. Or, for those who want something more scary, can go wide open throttle with the truck, watching the tires (and anything else nearby). Now put the truck on its side, the wheels that can spin turn into hazardous pizza cutters. They are spinning faster than before. Obviously this is not recommended.

Jon Mulholland there’s no “slip” in a gear differential. And there actually is a speed difference between the front and rear. If the oil is too thin more power is dumped to the front wheels. Just watch any 8th scale truggy with a poorly tuned center diff and you’ll see what I’m talking about.
