If it’s cheap, small enough to be hidden under floor or in an 18.5” wide closet, lacks performance, has a no name branding, you can bet mobile home manufacturers will use them.

I am glad I do not have to work on those. I have never liked the mini splits just because they are hard to get access to things and everything tends to be really tight. Once I found a goodman mini split board fried by a frog. Frog was cooked but took the board with it.
@USA-GreedyMenOfNoIntegrity
@USA-GreedyMenOfNoIntegrity Год назад
My first mini split was a Goodman in 2002. Nothing but problems! Ended up installed standard 1.5 ton split in 2006 at cost! I told myself that I would never sell another one until 2022, when I installed a Fujitsu. So far so good but believe me, I won’t be putting in very many of them. I will not work on anyone else’s, especially if they’re DIY’er.

At 2:57, the sound that can be heard coming through the return register is so similar to a jet gas turbine engine spooling up during startup. I like the sound though it likely drives whoever lives there a little nutty. Love all the content you're putting out, Curtis. No pro here, just a DIY'er who loves this HVAC stuff, especially what's presented on this channel!

The MPN ducted mini splits they put in Legacy homes are a disaster. Make sure the t-stat has the "follow me" button pressed or the air handler ignores it. Check the returns too. I've had 5 homes with very restricted returns or returns not attached to the air handler. Also had one that was installed backwards, and another with a chunk of subfloor blocking the supply.
@adamswendsen2494
@adamswendsen2494 Год назад
Was going to mention that, about the follow me setting. Otherwise I believe the set point is controlled by a sensor at the indoor unit. And in follow me mode it will display indoor temp along with set point on the stat.

On the first system that the pressures improved when you opened the access panel I would say the problem is the duct work. Open it up along with replacing the motor and drive. I have experienced the same effect with just hearing the hiss and using my hands to cover the area to find exactly where it is. Though there are times when you can hear it but can't lay hands on it and that is where our fun tools come into play. I would say for those systems who ever installed them was the hired off the street and shown how to install in one day then let loose with the tools. I used to work for a company that did that and now they are headed down a road that I am no longer part of. Lets just say they may be loosing EPA for sure in the end. Something to do with just opening systems to atmosphere and replacing components. No recovery equipment on their vans. Just tanks of refrigerant, gauges and a vacuum pump. I am talking about systems that hold 12 lbs of r410, r22, r404, r448, r449 you name it. I even worked on some of the systems installed by previous so called techs that put in a cooler coil with no metering cartridge in the Sporlan TXV and overcharged to make it work. I am glad to be away from that company now.

Ok so pretty much this is the way I see it with trailers... the manufacturer of the trailer wants to make that profit off of that minisplit instead of the local company that sets up the trailer. Up until recently, the trailer would leave the factory with the usual Revolv air handler and ductwork installed. Some were upflow and some were downflow just depending on how nice of a trailer it is. The company that sets up the mobile home usually has a local HVAC contractor that they work with. That contractor would install a Mortex coil in the air handler and usually an ICP heat pump outside. Now the manufacturers like Fleetwood and Clayton want to keep all that money in-house by shipping out the trailer with their mini split that they install. Like every other builder, they buy the lowest grade no-name products that look shiny and fancy. Honestly the Revolv air handler was a really good value. It has a regular PSC motor and is simple. Legacy homes is pre-installing the whole traditional hvac system at the factory. The metal framework for the trailer comes out at one end and there is a platform that a Goodman condensor sits on. Warren Buffett owns at least 50 percent of everything involved in the mobile home business, maybe more. The entire town of Douglas, Georgia lives off of the mobile home business.

Not trying to be smart just a common question. I would think you would suggest changing all the flares on all ends of the copper, cond n evap? Will stay tuned to see the rest tomorrow.

Nnp never heard of it. I know diakin has vrv life and and Cooper and hunter has a system that can have a separate head and a central air handler. But honestly Curtis for this custumer a Mr cool mini split installed correctly by you and vacuaned by a pro like you or a gree flex sized properly by you and mounted on the same bracket they already have would be more appropriate VS whatever brand they currently have. Ohh and Curtis thier are now some other manufactures trying to make diy mini splits that are manufactured poorly besides Mr cool. And telling people you don't need to flush the linesets are vacuam either. And one guy tried to tell me with Mr cool vacauming a quick connect line set voids the manufactures warrenty. Again not true it's just common sense to do a leak pressure test without soapy water and vacuam it and make sure it holds.

Why am I not surprised when mobile home manufacturers choose another cheap junk system with poor performance, reliability, lifespan and repairability? How about they just install the proper ductwork with a name brand piece of equipment, in a large enough closet INSIDE the home, repairable using common parts on a service truck and with a 10 yr parts warranty? “Low Airflow”…yeah about 100% of the time with 4 x 13 beer can trunks.

I guess the crappy mini split bandit installer strikes again. Wonder if on. The second one if it was even vacuaned. With that leak and who the heck covers up an air hander with kraft paper faced insulation. In Pennsylvania that's a code violation and a no no. I don't know about Georgia if its the same. And I don't like that in the second one the guy could not even properly secure the outer covering and leaving that bird nest. But I know you will make it right. But I still standby Curtis the gree flex bieng a more appropriate option installed by you. Since you have road tested them. Yourself.

@gabrielstern4992
@gabrielstern4992 Год назад
@@USA-GreedyMenOfNoIntegrity yes but you should not cover and wrap the whole air handler in insulation especially kraft faced stuff that's a fire Hazzard with the electrical wiring and can cutoff adaqaute air flow. But maybe I am wrong and it's a southern thing. But to me it should have been mounted properly on a air handler stand or had a proper plenum box built to mount the air handler on and just insulated the stud walla behind properly and put high density polyiso over the insulation instead of drywall. Makes much easier acess for an hvac guy. And looks more proper and professional and meets codes.
